Going to a Chinese Food/Sushi Buffet

So I am going to a buffet today that is a mixture of chinese food and sushi. They have a hibachi bar, a sushi bar, and a bar with noodles and different meats/vegetables that can range from fried to grilled....supposedly. I think I can guess at which things are safe (hibachi w/ no oil) and unsafe (fried fried fried..or heavily glazed), but if anyone has any great pointers, I'm open to suggestions as to what I should or shouldn't eat.

I went to a buffet recently and I managed to enjoy myself while not going overboard. You should enjoy yourself too!

Here's what I did:

- Ate very lightly during the day, but filling things.
- drank lots of water
- I stuck to steamed seafood and grilled things. All very yummy and very nutritious. I had quite a bit of snow crab legs because I LOVE them and they are also very low in calories :)
- fruit for dessert!

You might also want to just eat at your maintenance level rather than trying to stick to your losing level. Have fun, get back on track the next day and don't sweat it.

Thanks! Steamed is a good idea, I hope they have a selection like the one back home (I'm up at school currently.) Definitely hitting the gym today, but I think I'll feel pretty good if I stick to steamed and sashimi.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE sushi. And Asian food in general. If they have any soup, that is usually what I start out with. I spoon about half the ladle into the bowl and eat some of that before my main course. It's a good appetizer and can curb your hunger a little bit so you don't go overboard c:

Same here. And when I go to an all-you-can-eat sushi place, which happens perhaps 4 times a year, I eat my fill, with no restrictions on quantity and type of fare. However, I get back on track the next meal so my weight loss/maintenance doesn't suffer. I believe it's OK to have planned pig-outs once in a while, as long as you can trust yourself to hop right back on the wagon. But that's just me. I know some people prefer to never go REALLY overboard.

When I go to a sushi/chinese buffet, I always weight more for a week or so no matter how little I eat because of all the sodium in the food. I suggest you just enjoy yourself (within reason) and stay away from the scale for a week.
