NSV and My Reward

  • I joined the gym 4 weeks ago today, on April 22nd. I have only missed 1 day and my reward is new shoes.

I'm going to go to a running store tomorrow and get shoes that will actually be right for my feet and gait. I want to run a half marathon in January and my arches and 1 part of my left shin are killing me after every run. I figure that's not good and since my shoes are a good 4 years old and I've proved to myself I will go to the gym consistently, that shoes are a good (and much needed) reward.

I've stayed away from weight loss rewards this time simply because I know they don't define my success.

Do you guys reward yourself for things other than weight loss?
  • I have only set myself goals and rewards for weight loss thus far, but I think non scale victories can be more important. Seeing how strong you are or how much you have changed is certainly more meaningful than a number on a stupid scale.

You definitely deserve those new shoes and they will help you train that much harder! They'll also save you from further aches and pains

I think I might make some non scale victories related to fitness too! Maybe being able to run for a certain amount of time or stay on the jacob's ladder or stairmaster.
  • Sure, once in awhile I give myself little rewards for goals met. Right now, I have 3 tops that I recently bought that are "goal tops". I can wear one when I reach 165, and the other two when I hit 160. Partially because they are just a little bit on the snug side, still, and I really need to lose a few more inches/pounds before they'll fit properly. I wish everything wasn't so friggin' skin tight! I will be glad when the style shifts again to allow a more roomier fit for clothing.

Rewarding yourself with new shoes after showing yourself you can be consistent with your gym attendance is an excellent reward!
  • That's awesome! Well done!
