I've been tracking my weight loss daily and I was doing really good, two days ago I was 309 (my lowest so far) and now today I'm back up to 313!!!
This makes me SO upset.
It is my TOM but this still doesn't make sense to me, why would I go down to 309?
I have been eating healthy and counting calories,
I eat no more then 1700 a day.
Does anyone have a logical explanation for this??
Please do not suggest to not weight daily, that doesn't work for me.
(not to be bi**chy.)
Pleeeeeease don't be upset - weight fluctuates wildly for many people during the week, ESPECIALLY at TOTM - I can go up 4-6lb!! It'll drop off again afterwards and is almost certainly water retention. By all means weigh yourself daily, but only take notice of one weight per week, i.e. first thing Monday am. Anything in between is not an accurate reflection of your progress.
I'm with ya, it's definitely discouraging, I weigh daily and ask myself the same thing, and I've heard it all.... Who knows!!! Maybe it's the scale! As long as you know that you're following your new routine, really not cheating, then you should hopefully be seeing enough results on your body transformation, whether the scale that day says it or not! (Power of positive thinking?!?) Are you weighing in at the same time daily? Do you keep your sodium intake the same every day? Don't be discouraged, it'll happen....
I agree with the above posters - you are 309, which is why you saw that number; perhaps even less than that, but you're experiencing unpredictable water fluctuations, probably because it's your TOM and everything is all over the place.
It will settle down. I know how stressed you must be (I've panicked worse than this over much less) but believe me, in a few days time things will even out and you will see a loss.
P.S. I weigh daily too, even when I've been advised not to. I haven't found it to be a problem. It was in the beginning (I won't lie) when I wasn't sure what to expect and didn't know what was normal, but I find it helps to keep me on track. Knowing you are weighing the next day keeps you from doing things you shouldn't!
Weight tends to fluctuate during your TOtM. I busted my *** last week but weighed in at 153.6 - only .2 pounds less than the previous week! I had started my period though so that seemed to have an impact. A week later, I'm probably down to about 150 so that extra pound or so that I normally would have expected to see come off has done exactly that.
Also, when you weigh daily you have to be prepared for those kinds of fluctuations. I know I'd become obsessed which is why I personally avoid it but you need to find a routine that works for you.
I'm also a daily weigher... I found that when I don't weigh, I tend to lose focus and gain. I see the fluctuations too and it can be frustrating. Just keep moving forward, and don't let yourself get worked up over these fluctuations. If you find them to be too upsetting and they cause you to binge or give up, then maybe it's best to not weigh so often.
There's no way you can gain that much, that fast. It's just water. TOM, hormonal changes throughout the month, and what you eat can all affect how much water you retain. Temperature can also do it. I find that when I'm hot, I retain more. Now that it's summer time, I can feel the difference.
I used to freak out about the numbers too, TOM, high sodium, full moon, whatever could send me into a panic when the scale would go up at all. Then something happened to change this. I have a tiny 3 year old. We were in the bathroom and she stepped on the scale naked and wieghed 24.6 lbs. Then she ate her cereal with milk, had some fruit and grapes and I dressed her in a little sundress. She stepped on the scale and was 26.7lbs! I know the scale wasn't meant to wiegh such a small person but it changed my thinking. Nothing is wrong with you!

I can go down 3 lbs plus from the evening after dinner to the next morning. 3 lbs, that's a lot of weight. I can go down 1 lb from one morning to the next. That's a lot of weight too, for a 24 hour period. I can throw out a couple of theories, but really don't have an explanation for the fluctuations that I know to be true. Obviously, it's not all FAT loss and gain (it's body weight loss and gain).
water retention
time of month
salt intake
respiration levels and sweating (body temp)
exercise levels
muscle building
overeating from a previous week finally showing up
internal plumbing and a slowdown therein
combinations of the above
Don't freak out, daily fluctuations are so normal and even sometimes a little extreme depending on how much water you drink (or DON'T drink) and how much salt you have, etc.
I think that if I weighed myself daily I would almost always get discouraged way too fast. I weigh in once per week, saturday mornings in only my underwear! (control ) Occasionally I will sneak in a weigh during the middle of the week, but not usually. If you find weighing yourself so often to be too discouraging, try every other day or twice a week, once/week, etc.
Good luck! And chin up!
Yep, the scale is freaking whacked sometimes. I do definately recommend weighing often though because it makes you aware of patterns with your body.
For example, I've learned to not expect much, if any, loss the first week of the month, and if I stall out for a bit it's always on a weight ending in 7.
You'll be fine, just need to get used to it is all
