weight loss stinks

  • I've got the weight loss blues, seems like its taking too long to see progress, I hate running into people I know and feeling like they see me as fat, I hate reading the label of everything I eat and most recently my Dr told me to eat yogurt daily... Yuck.

I'll get over it, but I'm a little in the dumps today.
  • Are you enjoying what you eat? Maybe it's time to make your food or your life more palatable.
  • I'm right there with you. I feel really out of my depth. I started my journey eating so little that every time I eat something, even if it's small, I feel full and yuck. But eating so little is not helping me to lose weight. I haven't lost a significant amount in two weeks and my weight keeps going up and down. I won't give up but at this point I feel pretty low.

I understand all of your feelings; I hate running into people and wondering what they must think/what they must be saying behind my back. But at the end of the day, I don't really care all that much. Everyone has their own cross to bear. Ours is just more obvious.

    Hope you feel better soon.
  • re:
Yep, there are times I get like that. I'm sure everyone does. Keep going! You've already made progress, and a year from now you'll say, "wow, it's only been a year and..."

    .
  • You don't have to eat yogurt every day if you don't want to. Is there a reason your doctor said that? If it's about probiotics, there are better ways to get them. If it's allegedly because dairy aids weight loss, that's not even true, so there's no reason to force yourself to eat something you don't like.

As for weight loss blues, I'm right there with you. It's frustrating, but the only thing we can do is push through. That's why it's a weight loss plan, so we know what to do even when we're not feeling it.
  • Try to turn your anger into energy and work out! Show some punches, kicks etc. You will relieve your anger AND burn calories :-)

You know, I always find that I have better work outs when I'm stressed out, like usually it's immediately upon someone telling me something particularly stressful. Usually after this moment, I always say to myself, "Shoot, I should just upset myself every time I'm supposed to go work out!" Of course, that's never a good thing to do, but I do wish I had the "umph" that I do when I'm stressed, lol.

    Yup!
And I find I feel twice as good after a stress relieving workout. It's like a double whammy of good.
  • It sounds to me like you haven't found the diet that's right "for you" just yet. Maybe keep experimenting, trying different things. Because if you "hate" what you're doing that much, it won't be long before you throw in the towel & no longer do it.

  • Exercise often --> good mood, though not always because you can get fed up with it and feel really frustrated while doing it.

Don't eat food you don't like!
  • It's normal to feel this way, at least from time to time. I agree with what everyone else is saying, you need to find food you enjoy eating, otherwise this whole weight loss process is going to be a drag. Exercising puts me in a good mood as well and helps with stress relief.
  • I think the main reason I failed at weight loss most of my life, is because I thought weight loss had to suck. I'd choose "sucky" ways to diet and would hold on until I couldn't stand the self-imposed misery any longer, and then I quit, only to gain the weight (and usually some extra) and start the process all over again.

This time has been different, because I decided from the start that I wasn't going to do anything that sucked. I wasn't going to do anything I wasn't willing to do indefinitely (and even if no weight loss resulted).

I also decided to "pamper myself" thin rather than punish myself thin. It gives me a lot fewer reasons to give up.

Weight loss can suck, but it really doesn't have to. Our cultural expectation however is for it to suck, and if you expect it to suck, it will.

I'm finding that the expectation for rapid weight loss is the biggest obstacle/booby trap to successful weight loss. People give up because they feel like they're failing when they're actually succeeding quite well (because they're not losing the magical 2 lbs per week that they think is "normal" but really is quite rare)
  • "eat yogurt daily" ?
    Why?

I cant even remember the last time I ate yogurt.
