Yep definitely get your gallbladder checked! I had gallstones unusually young (discovered at 13) despite no family history and I wasn't overweight at the time and the pain you described is very similar. It spreads into your back and even up to your shoulders.. worth getting checked out anyway :)
Feel better!
Oh and yes I do feel this sometimes even though I've had it removed greasy food on an empty stomach is a no no. That's even more encouragement though I guess!

Wow, I wonder why you got them so young with no family history! Feeling better now, thanks . . . will explain more later in my post. :)

You should have warned us about those pictures! Now I can't stop thinking about little burgers, lol.
I get a stomach pains if I eat really greasy food on an empty stomach. If I am planning on "splurging", which for me means eating more calories at one meal than usual or food that I don't usually eat, I will usually skip several meals so that I have my calories saved up.
Let me tell you, eating deep fried vegetables after fasting for an entire day will mess your stomach up. I had a sudden stabbing pain in my stomach after eating about half of my food, and then I couldn't eat anymore. When I got home from the restaurant I had terrible bowel issues (I am choosing to spare you all the image). But yes, it seems normal and it should be an incentive to stick to your healthy food plan.
That said, it wouldn't hurt to ask your physician about it, just in case.

Sorry, lol. I changed the photo into a link with a warning. ;) I've since been to the doctor and will explain my issues for everyone at the end of this post. I think I am so over greasy food at the moment, and I hope the feeling sticks!

I can eat nothing but healthy foods in moderate portions for weeks at a time, then go on a sugar or fried food binge and have absolutely no symptoms.

Sugar is my main weakness, and I don't seem to have any poor repercussions from it aside from weight gain and energy/hunger drops/spikes. And something that helps me stay away from it is reminding myself that once I start eating it again, I never want to stop. Fortunately, I don't feel addicted to fried, greasy foods in the same way, although it can be really difficult for me to avoid, especially in social situations. :( And I've been in bed for several days over this issue now, so I'm hoping I've learned my lesson and will be extra avid. Heh, wish I had an iron stomach
and an iron will! ;)

I'm another one who has a stomach that's not too happy with a load of deep-fried/greasy food. I can eat small quantities of fried/greasy food and be ok, but if I overdo it, my body will not be happy and it will quickly let me know.
It feels like a dead weight in my stomach and I tend to be miserable for a few hours if I overindulge so I try and remember that I can have a few bites, but that there's no way I can eat the quantities of yummy junk food that I used to be able to.
|
Junk food isn't as yummy as it used to me for me, fortunately. But that doesn't mean I won't slide back on occasion. As for my stomachaches, until recently it seemed to be an all or nothing issue for me, and it's easier than ever to go overboard.

LOL
After only 1 week of healthy eating for me, I splurged on Mexican when we went out to eat for my sisters 18th birthday. That night I was dog tired. All day the next day I felt like crap! My whole body hurt, stomach aches and cramps, overactive bowels, nausiated, etc. I couldnt belive it.
I feel for you hun. While I would say its probably normal, maybe it is best if you get it checked out to be sure.
|
Luckily I'm not so fond of Mexican so it's not something I splurge on. Other foods however . . . well, let's just say there's always something to splurge on? ;) I did get checked out though and was kinda shocked/relieved; I'll explain at the end of my post. :)

I have this issue AFTER having my gallbladder out :( Before having gallbladder out, it was a full 12-24 hours of absolute horrendous pain. Now if I eat anything fried, I will wake up in the middle of the night with the exact pain you're describing. Therefore, I've tried to learn to stay away from fried food. Acid reducer (generic, I can't remember the brand name) helps.
|
I'm on an antacid right now, doctor's orders. Never had to worry about antacid in my life, either! I've wondered if things would be different if I ever had to have it out, but I don't remember my parents having any issues. My main worry was the surgery itself, was a bit scared over that. :( I'm sorry to hear that you wake up from that pain yourself!

I ate "clean" exclusively for more than a year. When I first started eating bits of traditional American fare I experienced stomach aches, headaches, skin breakouts, etc. The difference is really amazing.

I'm doing my best to make myself eat more and more clean over time. I guess what happens when we slip backwards says a lot! :o

Out of curiosity, was it Firefly that you visited? I live in Vegas and the two locations are the only tapas places I know of (not that I get out much, lol). :dizzy:

I get that too, but I've never had my gallbladder checked out. I often throw up after eating small amounts of greasy food, and I get severe stomach pain for several days. Wow, I should follow up with my doctor. Is it something that would be seen via ultrasound?
|
Ouch. In my case, I found out I wasn't having any issues with my gallbladder, but my stomach itself. Certainly wouldn't hurt to ask a doctor and find out exactly what's wrong. I didn't even get an ultrasound, but will be following up soon to make sure I'm healing up properly.

Do see your doctor, I had 3 or 4 "attacks" over the course of a year. After finally seeing my doctor, she said to go to the emergency room if I had another attack before having surgery. They did diagnose with an ultrasound and the surgeon said that there was quite a bit of scarring on the gall bladder, hence the issues I'd had. Thinking back, I did have stomach issues over several years and attributed it to bad eating.
|
Yikes. One of my friends just told me a similar story, except that he kept putting off having the surgery in hopes that it would go away on its own (and of course it didn't). He's so happy that he finally got it out of the way.

That sounds pretty scary, :( hope you're feeling better now!
* * *
Well, I spent most of that day feeling sick after eating tapas the night before, but did alright that night with a meal at Panda Express (I went for broccoli beef, mushroom chicken, and steamed veggies for a side). The next night I got my usual meal from Chipotle, a bowl with brown rice, black beans, grilled veggies, chicken, etc. And like the tapas, it about killed me the next day. :( So I figured I'd just cut down on my portions since I'd already been eating Chipotle since I started dieting this month and it hadn't been an issue before.
I got sick again after a different dinner, and while the pain wasn't as intense as it had been before, it simply wasn't going away. My husband ended up driving me to Urgent Care this past Friday night, where I thought for sure I'd be told that I was having some kind of gall bladder attack. But no, the doctor actually told me it wasn't my gall bladder at all, that I actually have gastritis. I'd never even heard of it before! But basically my stomach lining got irritated and became very swollen. He put me on an antacid to calm down the irritation and gave me prescriptions for the pain and nausea to get me by.
I'm still weak, still in pain, and still barely have an appetite, but I'm feeling better every day. I asked about what I should be eating, and it's basically what I've already been trying to do . . . whole foods, whole grains, fruit & veggies, lean meats, etc. I need to be more careful about avoiding fatty and spicy foods. So I've been really careful about what I eat and how much in the past few days.
Can't wait until things are back to normal! :dizzy:
