Happy Friday!

Yeah, it's Good Friday, but isn't every Friday good???? I just convinced my Mom that we should close early since a lot of people are working 1/2 days... (and I failed drama? ha, I can act!).

I started my 3FC journal yesterday and loved how just spilling everything made me feel. This will be a regular thing now!

Flower it all looks so perfect! The park is beautiful and your and Chris's wedding outfits are great! I can't wait to see pictures. If you see this in time - enjoy and congratulations!!!!

Eydie - Awwwww, aren't puppies great??? Cute, cuddly balls of fluff with sharp teeth that use you as their own personal chew toy! Thankfully they grow out of that stage (and they loose the sharp teeth!). I have this mental picture of you with a dog attached to your ankle now...

Kaylets - Isn't Mother Nature confused???? We had the same here - toasty warm weather with windows open - I *almost* took the flannel sheets off my bed... then POW, back down to freezing and looking like winter, part 2.:?:
I won't be around on the weekend - I still haven't gotten my computer back from my tech friend. Soon though!

I don't have any problems combining threads, but we should probably check with Amarantha since the other is her baby - and our wonderfully chatty thread and her's are a bit different... Don't want to step on any toes! I was thinking though, that maybe it's time to start another thread, like maybe for Midsummer (June 21st) for the first day of Summer and let the Spring Renewal thread peter out???? Whatever everyone decides.... like Eydie said, I'm there, just leave breadcrumbs so I can find you all!

Whistling - yup, I can do it both with lips and with my fingers. I don't remember learning how with my lips, but my brother taught me how to use my fingers.

I got an interesting email from "my guy". He's started including me in emails (jokes, stories, etc.) he sends to all his friends and when I replied back to something someone said (ending my comment with telling them who I even was!), he replied "I knew you'd fit right in". Ok, huh????? The saga continues....

Toodles for now,

Terri
:queen: o' Fridays - both good and mediocre (there's no such thing as a bad Friday!) :cb:

I'm here! No plans for the weekend, so I'll be checking in frequently to stay on track. Not sure yet what I'm cooking for Easter dinner...it's just us, so it doesn't need to be an all-out gourmet feast. I'm thinking of those little baby potatoes with the skins on...they're so yummy...and roasted baby carrots...and am undecided on the meat. Ham is the usual for Easter in our family, but it's salty...I think I would be just as happy with roasted chicken pieces. I don't want to spend all day in the kitchen! Strawberry shortcakes are on for dessert....with Cool Whip Light and angel food cake.

Amarantha can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the One Week challenge is just a boot-camp type of thread very focused on our personal goals. Of course, anyone who would like to join in would be most welcome, but our usual chatter wouldn't really fit there. I like our group for the day-to-day sharing as well as the weight loss support. Oh, I hope this comes across the way I mean...I dont' want to exclude anyone! Perhaps it's time for a fresh thread for our group and the renewed focus a new thread always seems to bring? And maybe we should have a short-term goal...say Mother's Day or Memorial Day? I am going to continue with the one-week challenge, and another week to follow if it continues, etc....but that's just because it is easier for me to focus on getting through just a week. Seven measley days...I can do THAT! :D Anyway, those of you who are around cast your votes, and we'll leave a trail for those who will need to find us when they return!

Kaylets, your craving indulgence could have been much worse! Congrats for maintaining a reasonable hold on it! It's very cold and grey here today, too. Even my cat, Salem, has crawled under a chenille throw to sleep on the couch.

Eydie, glad you're back on the wagon, and yes, just a day makes such a difference!

wsw, glad you stopped in, and I hope that you are able to enjoy the weekend without technical difficulties. Take care of that back...you don't realize how important it is until you hurt it!

Yes, I can whistle...but don't remember how or when I learned.

Plan to putter today...straighten up, make a grocery list, give myself a manicure/pedicure, read, etc. Will be back throughout the day!

*****I WILL NOT EAT EASTER CHOCOLATE*****

Edit: Punkin, we were posting at the same time! Sorry you have to work today...Good Friday is a work holiday in Canada! Sounds like we're on the same wavelength for a new thread. Oooooh...being included in his circle of friends...big step... ;) This is exciting...you don't mind me living vicariously through you, do you?

anagram 04-18-2003 10:50 AM

Have been MIA w/keyboard problems so will need to catch up.
But on the thread thing, I'm in for anything but would agree with Wildfire on a challenge for sometime in May. I don't seem to do as well on a longer one, I've been unable to avoid noticing. I put lots of effort in first and last weeks but slough off in between (smack on the hand).

My peanut butter egg is still resting in my freezer and I was able to avoid the jelly beans yesterday. But exercise was down yesterday too.

Friday!

Hello again!

Flower- thanks so much for the link- How did I miss that! I must have been looking w/ my eyes closed!!
Anyway!! I love it! The dress and shirt are so rich looking!! I know I must have missed this part too, but both the dress and shirt remind me of the Renaisance Reinactors I met when I worked at Tandy Leather.
The park looks wonderful too!! Everything will be gorgeous!

Punkin- Not sure what "your guy" means by that- ? Fit right in as " the group" ?

I'll be around after lunch.

Punkinseed 04-18-2003 12:23 PM

Well, I'm all for a Memorial Day thread - that would be May 26th... You're right, that June is too far off - too abstract a' date when you do that. It feels like it'll never come, so why bother kinda thing...

Kaylets, I donno' what it meant either. I try, oh SO hard, to not think anything about *any* of it and just let whatever it is just happen. But little comments like that - and him calling last Thursday, (he said he couldn't call on Friday) to tell me to have a good weekend with my friends, is just plain sweet. Oh, and did I mention him calling to tell me to rent Amelie? It happened to be the first movie I'd rented from Netflix a few days before he told me about it - and it's a total romantic chick flick! The man makes me scratch my head...

Anagram - I hope your keyboard is better soon. I shorted out 2 when I first moved up here (my electric personality I guess) and then I had one that insisted I needed 3 or 4 "E"'s with every keystroke. Frustrating!

Wildfire - You bet you can vicariously participate! IF (big if) there's anything to this whole thing - this part, the dance we're doing right now, is sometimes the most exciting part!

Well, 2 posts in just a couple hours... you can tell who's NOT working today!

Terri

Friday afternoon

Hello!

Some of us must have been posting at the same time--

I agree- a fresh thread, goal, etc will be a good idea.
And yes, you're right, chatting is VERY important. So, any ideas ?
did some one say Memorial Day? Not important to me - I just am suddenly aware of how different things can look from a different angle and how it can be very motivating--

After all, ( reaches up to the shelf, picks up a notebook, dusts it off and opens it) if you remember my "driving in traffic" musings--
Sometimes we do need to find a new route or even a different car.

So we need a volunteer-Experience NOT needed.

Anagram, Isnt it annoying when you can't get on -- Luckily keyboards are pretty cheap. I wonder what the the Princesses will find in their baskets!

Wildfire- Strawberry shortcake --- yes, sounds yummy- we did lots roasted vegetables this week and enjoyed them too.

WSW- I was wondering how things you're way were going!
I know you must miss not getting close to the computer!
I think if I hit the lottery a wireless notepad would be the first on the list! Its just a matter of time b/4 they are cheap enough-- after all, look what cellphones can do now!

Spent lunch and a few hours in the local farmers market looking for ideas for the centerpieces with a girlfriend. Bought two candles and some ivy to "dress " up the glass the candles come in-- this is a very low budget party and we need aprx 15 centerpieces. Will make up some sample, take pics and email Mom for her opinion.

Mushroom barley soup on the stove- Still craving all things not healthy so bought some lucious looking mushrooms and will feel full and satisified as I wait for the carb/processed sugar cravings to fade.

Its still cold and raw outside! Even the dogs are running back fast !!

I'll be back!

Kaylets 04-18-2003 05:12 PM

Hello again,

Just finished reading a Musing from the Fly Lady.

I wanted to share a section w/ you as it really hit the bullseye for me. Maybe you've seen it, but I think its worth seeing twice.

*********************
If you feel like yourself slipping out of control it is time for you
to change gears....
Try this little device:

HALT: Don't get too Hungry, too Angry, too Lonely, or too Tired.

This means that you need to eat regularly, stay calm, be around
people and don't overdo! We have a tendency ...... to just keep
pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion. Take you breaks and drink your water.

I want every day to be filled with fun, laughter and love!

Remember this;

Don't sweat the small stuff: What doesn't matter; just doesn't matter!

Laugh every day even if it is at yourself.

Love like there is no tomorrow!

Are you ready to smile by letting go of your perfectionism and just
enjoy the process? If you do then you will be FLYing!

FlyLady
******************************

Ok, I'll be back!

Oh and yes, by the way, I put a kettle on, I'm making your favorite- are you ready??

Wildfire 04-18-2003 05:29 PM

Hmmmm..Memorial Day...maybe we can tie into this somehow that we need to remember WHY we are doing this. We all have different goals, both end goals and intermediate goals, perhaps it's time for a brush-up on why?

Very good advice from the Fly-Lady!

Kaylets, the centerpieces sound nice!

Will be back...cooking rice to have with dinner and I think it's done!

Yowza! Everyone is doing so well ... Kaylets, thanks for the Fly Lady post ... the HALT (never get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired) concept is a very good one ... it's also a cornerstone of AA and seems to fit in well with overeating as well.

Re holiday hallmarks, there's also Victoria Day in Canada (May 19), Mother's Day (May 11, and U.S. Armed Forces Day (May 17) in May ... seems the month is riff with goal setting ops! :)

Wildfire: Thou be right, I posted the one week challenge as just an extra boot campy, non-chatty non-OT thing for fun and focus and only meant to do it one week ... but methinks I'd like it to go up again on Sunday for another week ... it's really helping me hang tough.

I do think chatting is great and care about everyone and apologize for not being very responsive and supportive lately on people's life issues ... I'm asking some hard questions of myself ... such as why I keep posting on a weight loss forum if I don't really mean to lose the weight that I've regained ... sometimes I believe I use the warm support of this group as an excuse that yet another binge or lack of effort on my part is ok ... I guess I ask myself, do I really want to do this (lose the weight and be a fitness goddess) ... it has been a very important goal of mine for a long time, as correctly or incorrectly, I believe success in this area will lead to success in other areas and I also believe I desire to live whatever is left of my life in the best body I can put together ... and correctly or incorrectly, I don't think declaring goals and objectives that I abandon two days later and then saying it's ok are going to get me there ... not that I don't intend to enjoy life, food (even cupcakes) and splurges ... I guess I'm saying it's time for me to get off the pot, to fish or cut bait, to hold up or fold up, to ... hmmm, guess that covers it! :)

I guess last Sunday I asked myself, what can I commit to for one week, just one little week?! So far except for that deviation of a higher cal day, I've met my goals. I'm not personally doing the 21-day thing of resetting my clock back to day one if I slip, just marching on with that annoying :drill: urging me to compliance!!!!

So I'll likely put that thing up again on Sundays, but will also hang around the parlor here, if that's ok?

Rice sounds good ... I'm low on calories left but am going to make a nice omelet with mushrooms and a tiny bit of diet butter and parm cheese ... thank goodness for eggs and my good cholesterol level!

I am not working today but will have to do so the whole weekend ... which be fine with me!

MissWashu 04-18-2003 07:22 PM

Well!!!! I've been gone for quite awhile, sorry for not saying goodbye We (BF and I) went to Idaho to visit my family for a week. Special treat... My new found sister and her hubby came to Id. as well. It was a great time! I completely abandoned my diet and only gained 3lbs...
Then, just a couple of days after we got back, we went to Longview to visit his family. Side note- BF is working w/ his BIL down there, so he went to work, and I just went to hang out w/ the fam. tried hard to re-esablish my diet and gained 7 more.

O well, I'm home now. Lacking motivation... there's been so much that happened I don't think that weight loss is top priority right now.
... In longview I had an episode of severe chest pain, no ideas yet as to why... and money sucks, our i-net almost got permanently disconnected. Thankfully we avoided that and I'm up and running today.

So I haven't read any of the past posts yet. I'll come back w/ comments when I have.

Have a great weekend all!!!!

good, good, good, good news here!

:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

As of this afternoon, dh is off dialysis! He will be monitored and may need to go back on at some point but for now his kidneys are functioning enough so he will have a trial period without treatment.

I can't begin to describe how we feel - ecstatic, grateful, cautious, hopeful, you name it.:hat:  :goodvibes :crossed: :crossed: :balloons:
and, oh yes, :lucky: :lucky: :lucky:

Wildfire 04-18-2003 11:56 PM

Fantastic news, anagram! A big WHOOHOOO for you and DH!!! :cb: Here's hoping this is the dawn of a new, healthier, and happier time for you both!

MissWashu, welcome back! Great timing, actually, as we're gearing up for a whole new challenge and refocusing on our goals!

Amarantha, I'll join you on another one-week challenge, if you decide to continue. I've been asking myself a lot of the same questions as you have of yourself. I sometimes feel guilty hanging out here when I know I'm not really trying to stay OP. Our group has become more than just weight-loss support, though, and I miss catching up with everyone when I'm not on for a few days. Strange, but last Sunday was a turning point for me, too. I'm taking this one day at a time, and it is going good so far. FitDay seems to be working well for me, and it counts the calories for me which is a new thing for me. I've only ever done one WW system or another. I'm working on portion control, too. Your omelet sounds good! There are plenty of times I rely on an omelet for something quick to eat, rather than going for fast food. Cholesterol or not, eggs have to be better than french fries! Don't work too hard this weekend!

We just watched Shallow Hal on the movie network. I didn't see it when it was out in the theatres, but had heard that it was actually well done, and not insulting to overweight women. The message was a good one...that we should not be judged by outward appearances, but by the beauty within. There are thin, beautiful women who are ugly on the inside. We should be loved for who we are, not what we look like. If only we could take that advice and apply it to ourselves!

It's almost tomorrow, so I'm off.

Kaylets 04-19-2003 07:31 AM

Saturday

Hello all!!

Anagram: I am so thrilled for you, DH and your family! I know everyone is ready to throw confetti. Thought we had confetti to throw too but am sure everyone feels like dancing too. :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

My Dh is wondering how it is that the dialysis isnt needed anymore.--Is it his diet or the medication (or both?) that turned things around?? this is wonderful news, either way-- :D :D

Miss W- Glad to see you !!! Was wondering how you were!

Punkinseed, I'm enjoying your journal--thanks for sharing it!

Flower, Beeyootiful dress! Almost makes me want to get married again and steal your style!

Wildfire, You're doing so well. You're inspiring me to keep going! And that's a great idea on rediscovering why we're all doing this--I'm going to give that some thought. I've been doing this so long maybe I've forgotten my original reasons?

Kaylets, About today's question: ALWAYS!

Anagram, your news has made my day! So happy for you and DH. That's incredible news!

MissWashu, great to 'see' you! Keep visiting us and we'll whip you into shape. We're on a roll! And let us know about those mysterious chest pains too.

Amarantha, I really liked your post today and am enjoying the 1-week Challenge. Like you, it's important for me to stick to a plan [whatever that plan may be at the time!], and when I go off it, not only do I feel worse physically but my personal sense of integrity suffers too.

Times for me to journal yesterdays' stuff!
