Happy Friday!

Yeah, it's Good Friday, but isn't every Friday good???? I just convinced my Mom that we should close early since a lot of people are working 1/2 days... (and I failed drama? ha, I can act!).

I started my 3FC journal yesterday and loved how just spilling everything made me feel. This will be a regular thing now!

Flower it all looks so perfect! The park is beautiful and your and Chris's wedding outfits are great! I can't wait to see pictures. If you see this in time - enjoy and congratulations!!!!

Eydie - Awwwww, aren't puppies great??? Cute, cuddly balls of fluff with sharp teeth that use you as their own personal chew toy! Thankfully they grow out of that stage (and they loose the sharp teeth!). I have this mental picture of you with a dog attached to your ankle now...

Kaylets - Isn't Mother Nature confused???? We had the same here - toasty warm weather with windows open - I *almost* took the flannel sheets off my bed... then POW, back down to freezing and looking like winter, part 2.:?:
I won't be around on the weekend - I still haven't gotten my computer back from my tech friend. Soon though!

I don't have any problems combining threads, but we should probably check with Amarantha since the other is her baby - and our wonderfully chatty thread and her's are a bit different... Don't want to step on any toes! I was thinking though, that maybe it's time to start another thread, like maybe for Midsummer (June 21st) for the first day of Summer and let the Spring Renewal thread peter out???? Whatever everyone decides.... like Eydie said, I'm there, just leave breadcrumbs so I can find you all!

Whistling - yup, I can do it both with lips and with my fingers. I don't remember learning how with my lips, but my brother taught me how to use my fingers.

I got an interesting email from "my guy". He's started including me in emails (jokes, stories, etc.) he sends to all his friends and when I replied back to something someone said (ending my comment with telling them who I even was!), he replied "I knew you'd fit right in". Ok, huh????? The saga continues....

Toodles for now,

Terri
:queen: o' Fridays - both good and mediocre (there's no such thing as a bad Friday!) :cb:

Wildfire 04-18-2003 10:38 AM

I'm here! No plans for the weekend, so I'll be checking in frequently to stay on track. Not sure yet what I'm cooking for Easter dinner...it's just us, so it doesn't need to be an all-out gourmet feast. I'm thinking of those little baby potatoes with the skins on...they're so yummy...and roasted baby carrots...and am undecided on the meat. Ham is the usual for Easter in our family, but it's salty...I think I would be just as happy with roasted chicken pieces. I don't want to spend all day in the kitchen! Strawberry shortcakes are on for dessert....with Cool Whip Light and angel food cake.

Amarantha can correct me if I'm mistaken, but I believe the One Week challenge is just a boot-camp type of thread very focused on our personal goals. Of course, anyone who would like to join in would be most welcome, but our usual chatter wouldn't really fit there. I like our group for the day-to-day sharing as well as the weight loss support. Oh, I hope this comes across the way I mean...I dont' want to exclude anyone! Perhaps it's time for a fresh thread for our group and the renewed focus a new thread always seems to bring? And maybe we should have a short-term goal...say Mother's Day or Memorial Day? I am going to continue with the one-week challenge, and another week to follow if it continues, etc....but that's just because it is easier for me to focus on getting through just a week. Seven measley days...I can do THAT! :D Anyway, those of you who are around cast your votes, and we'll leave a trail for those who will need to find us when they return!

Kaylets, your craving indulgence could have been much worse! Congrats for maintaining a reasonable hold on it! It's very cold and grey here today, too. Even my cat, Salem, has crawled under a chenille throw to sleep on the couch.

Eydie, glad you're back on the wagon, and yes, just a day makes such a difference!

wsw, glad you stopped in, and I hope that you are able to enjoy the weekend without technical difficulties. Take care of that back...you don't realize how important it is until you hurt it!

Yes, I can whistle...but don't remember how or when I learned.

Plan to putter today...straighten up, make a grocery list, give myself a manicure/pedicure, read, etc. Will be back throughout the day!

*****I WILL NOT EAT EASTER CHOCOLATE*****

Edit: Punkin, we were posting at the same time! Sorry you have to work today...Good Friday is a work holiday in Canada! Sounds like we're on the same wavelength for a new thread. Oooooh...being included in his circle of friends...big step... ;) This is exciting...you don't mind me living vicariously through you, do you?

anagram 04-18-2003 10:50 AM

Have been MIA w/keyboard problems so will need to catch up.
But on the thread thing, I'm in for anything but would agree with Wildfire on a challenge for sometime in May. I don't seem to do as well on a longer one, I've been unable to avoid noticing. I put lots of effort in first and last weeks but slough off in between (smack on the hand).

My peanut butter egg is still resting in my freezer and I was able to avoid the jelly beans yesterday. But exercise was down yesterday too.

Kaylets 04-18-2003 11:01 AM

Friday!

Hello again!

Flower- thanks so much for the link- How did I miss that! I must have been looking w/ my eyes closed!!
Anyway!! I love it! The dress and shirt are so rich looking!! I know I must have missed this part too, but both the dress and shirt remind me of the Renaisance Reinactors I met when I worked at Tandy Leather.
The park looks wonderful too!! Everything will be gorgeous!

Punkin- Not sure what "your guy" means by that- ? Fit right in as " the group" ?

I'll be around after lunch.

Punkinseed 04-18-2003 12:23 PM

Well, I'm all for a Memorial Day thread - that would be May 26th... You're right, that June is too far off - too abstract a' date when you do that. It feels like it'll never come, so why bother kinda thing...

Kaylets, I donno' what it meant either. I try, oh SO hard, to not think anything about *any* of it and just let whatever it is just happen. But little comments like that - and him calling last Thursday, (he said he couldn't call on Friday) to tell me to have a good weekend with my friends, is just plain sweet. Oh, and did I mention him calling to tell me to rent Amelie? It happened to be the first movie I'd rented from Netflix a few days before he told me about it - and it's a total romantic chick flick! The man makes me scratch my head...

Anagram - I hope your keyboard is better soon. I shorted out 2 when I first moved up here (my electric personality I guess) and then I had one that insisted I needed 3 or 4 "E"'s with every keystroke. Frustrating!

Wildfire - You bet you can vicariously participate! IF (big if) there's anything to this whole thing - this part, the dance we're doing right now, is sometimes the most exciting part!

Well, 2 posts in just a couple hours... you can tell who's NOT working today!

Terri

Friday afternoon

Hello!

Some of us must have been posting at the same time--

I agree- a fresh thread, goal, etc will be a good idea.
And yes, you're right, chatting is VERY important. So, any ideas ?
did some one say Memorial Day? Not important to me - I just am suddenly aware of how different things can look from a different angle and how it can be very motivating--

After all, ( reaches up to the shelf, picks up a notebook, dusts it off and opens it) if you remember my "driving in traffic" musings--
Sometimes we do need to find a new route or even a different car.

So we need a volunteer-Experience NOT needed.

Anagram, Isnt it annoying when you can't get on -- Luckily keyboards are pretty cheap. I wonder what the the Princesses will find in their baskets!

Wildfire- Strawberry shortcake --- yes, sounds yummy- we did lots roasted vegetables this week and enjoyed them too.

WSW- I was wondering how things you're way were going!
I know you must miss not getting close to the computer!
I think if I hit the lottery a wireless notepad would be the first on the list! Its just a matter of time b/4 they are cheap enough-- after all, look what cellphones can do now!

Spent lunch and a few hours in the local farmers market looking for ideas for the centerpieces with a girlfriend. Bought two candles and some ivy to "dress " up the glass the candles come in-- this is a very low budget party and we need aprx 15 centerpieces. Will make up some sample, take pics and email Mom for her opinion.

Mushroom barley soup on the stove- Still craving all things not healthy so bought some lucious looking mushrooms and will feel full and satisified as I wait for the carb/processed sugar cravings to fade.

Its still cold and raw outside! Even the dogs are running back fast !!

I'll be back!

Kaylets 04-18-2003 05:12 PM

Hello again,

Just finished reading a Musing from the Fly Lady.

I wanted to share a section w/ you as it really hit the bullseye for me. Maybe you've seen it, but I think its worth seeing twice.

*********************
If you feel like yourself slipping out of control it is time for you
to change gears....
Try this little device:

HALT: Don't get too Hungry, too Angry, too Lonely, or too Tired.

This means that you need to eat regularly, stay calm, be around
people and don't overdo! We have a tendency ...... to just keep
pushing ourselves to the point of exhaustion. Take you breaks and drink your water.

I want every day to be filled with fun, laughter and love!

Remember this;

Don't sweat the small stuff: What doesn't matter; just doesn't matter!

Laugh every day even if it is at yourself.

Love like there is no tomorrow!

Are you ready to smile by letting go of your perfectionism and just
enjoy the process? If you do then you will be FLYing!

FlyLady
******************************

Ok, I'll be back!

Oh and yes, by the way, I put a kettle on, I'm making your favorite- are you ready??

Wildfire 04-18-2003 05:29 PM

Hmmmm..Memorial Day...maybe we can tie into this somehow that we need to remember WHY we are doing this. We all have different goals, both end goals and intermediate goals, perhaps it's time for a brush-up on why?

Very good advice from the Fly-Lady!

Kaylets, the centerpieces sound nice!

Will be back...cooking rice to have with dinner and I think it's done!

Yowza! Everyone is doing so well ... Kaylets, thanks for the Fly Lady post ... the HALT (never get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired) concept is a very good one ... it's also a cornerstone of AA and seems to fit in well with overeating as well.

Re holiday hallmarks, there's also Victoria Day in Canada (May 19), Mother's Day (May 11, and U.S. Armed Forces Day (May 17) in May ... seems the month is riff with goal setting ops! :)

Wildfire: Thou be right, I posted the one week challenge as just an extra boot campy, non-chatty non-OT thing for fun and focus and only meant to do it one week ... but methinks I'd like it to go up again on Sunday for another week ... it's really helping me hang tough.

I do think chatting is great and care about everyone and apologize for not being very responsive and supportive lately on people's life issues ... I'm asking some hard questions of myself ... such as why I keep posting on a weight loss forum if I don't really mean to lose the weight that I've regained ... sometimes I believe I use the warm support of this group as an excuse that yet another binge or lack of effort on my part is ok ... I guess I ask myself, do I really want to do this (lose the weight and be a fitness goddess) ... it has been a very important goal of mine for a long time, as correctly or incorrectly, I believe success in this area will lead to success in other areas and I also believe I desire to live whatever is left of my life in the best body I can put together ... and correctly or incorrectly, I don't think declaring goals and objectives that I abandon two days later and then saying it's ok are going to get me there ... not that I don't intend to enjoy life, food (even cupcakes) and splurges ... I guess I'm saying it's time for me to get off the pot, to fish or cut bait, to hold up or fold up, to ... hmmm, guess that covers it! :)

I guess last Sunday I asked myself, what can I commit to for one week, just one little week?! So far except for that deviation of a higher cal day, I've met my goals. I'm not personally doing the 21-day thing of resetting my clock back to day one if I slip, just marching on with that annoying :drill: urging me to compliance!!!!

So I'll likely put that thing up again on Sundays, but will also hang around the parlor here, if that's ok?

Rice sounds good ... I'm low on calories left but am going to make a nice omelet with mushrooms and a tiny bit of diet butter and parm cheese ... thank goodness for eggs and my good cholesterol level!

I am not working today but will have to do so the whole weekend ... which be fine with me!

MissWashu 04-18-2003 07:22 PM

Well!!!! I've been gone for quite awhile, sorry for not saying goodbye We (BF and I) went to Idaho to visit my family for a week. Special treat... My new found sister and her hubby came to Id. as well. It was a great time! I completely abandoned my diet and only gained 3lbs...
Then, just a couple of days after we got back, we went to Longview to visit his family. Side note- BF is working w/ his BIL down there, so he went to work, and I just went to hang out w/ the fam. tried hard to re-esablish my diet and gained 7 more.

O well, I'm home now. Lacking motivation... there's been so much that happened I don't think that weight loss is top priority right now.
... In longview I had an episode of severe chest pain, no ideas yet as to why... and money sucks, our i-net almost got permanently disconnected. Thankfully we avoided that and I'm up and running today.

So I haven't read any of the past posts yet. I'll come back w/ comments when I have.

Have a great weekend all!!!!

anagram 04-18-2003 09:40 PM

good, good, good, good news here!

:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

As of this afternoon, dh is off dialysis! He will be monitored and may need to go back on at some point but for now his kidneys are functioning enough so he will have a trial period without treatment.

I can't begin to describe how we feel - ecstatic, grateful, cautious, hopeful, you name it.:hat:  :goodvibes :crossed: :crossed: :balloons:
and, oh yes, :lucky: :lucky: :lucky:

Wildfire 04-18-2003 11:56 PM

Fantastic news, anagram! A big WHOOHOOO for you and DH!!! :cb: Here's hoping this is the dawn of a new, healthier, and happier time for you both!

MissWashu, welcome back! Great timing, actually, as we're gearing up for a whole new challenge and refocusing on our goals!

Amarantha, I'll join you on another one-week challenge, if you decide to continue. I've been asking myself a lot of the same questions as you have of yourself. I sometimes feel guilty hanging out here when I know I'm not really trying to stay OP. Our group has become more than just weight-loss support, though, and I miss catching up with everyone when I'm not on for a few days. Strange, but last Sunday was a turning point for me, too. I'm taking this one day at a time, and it is going good so far. FitDay seems to be working well for me, and it counts the calories for me which is a new thing for me. I've only ever done one WW system or another. I'm working on portion control, too. Your omelet sounds good! There are plenty of times I rely on an omelet for something quick to eat, rather than going for fast food. Cholesterol or not, eggs have to be better than french fries! Don't work too hard this weekend!

We just watched Shallow Hal on the movie network. I didn't see it when it was out in the theatres, but had heard that it was actually well done, and not insulting to overweight women. The message was a good one...that we should not be judged by outward appearances, but by the beauty within. There are thin, beautiful women who are ugly on the inside. We should be loved for who we are, not what we look like. If only we could take that advice and apply it to ourselves!

It's almost tomorrow, so I'm off.

Kaylets 04-19-2003 07:31 AM

Saturday

Hello all!!

Anagram: I am so thrilled for you, DH and your family! I know everyone is ready to throw confetti. Thought we had confetti to throw too but am sure everyone feels like dancing too. :dancer: :dancer: :dancer:

My Dh is wondering how it is that the dialysis isnt needed anymore.--Is it his diet or the medication (or both?) that turned things around?? this is wonderful news, either way-- :D :D

Miss W- Glad to see you !!! Was wondering how you were!

Today's thought is:

Punkinseed, I'm enjoying your journal--thanks for sharing it!

Flower, Beeyootiful dress! Almost makes me want to get married again and steal your style!

Wildfire, You're doing so well. You're inspiring me to keep going! And that's a great idea on rediscovering why we're all doing this--I'm going to give that some thought. I've been doing this so long maybe I've forgotten my original reasons?

Kaylets, About today's question: ALWAYS!

Anagram, your news has made my day! So happy for you and DH. That's incredible news!

MissWashu, great to 'see' you! Keep visiting us and we'll whip you into shape. We're on a roll! And let us know about those mysterious chest pains too.

Amarantha, I really liked your post today and am enjoying the 1-week Challenge. Like you, it's important for me to stick to a plan [whatever that plan may be at the time!], and when I go off it, not only do I feel worse physically but my personal sense of integrity suffers too.

Times for me to journal yesterdays' stuff!

Arabella 04-19-2003 09:34 AM

Hello Wonderful Women!

I've been doing pretty well with the 1st one-weeker, and intend to get ready for another starting Monday. I've been working for a new company and will be pretty much non-stop - 1 week down and 3 to go. It will be good to be able to start getting debt paid down though :D

I had a wonderful experience yesterday. DH and I headed out of town, trying to find somewhere different to walk. I suddenly thought "Let's head out to the beach!" and we did. :) I felt a huge surge of excitement as soon as I saw the dunes, and when we got out of the car, I just ran to the edge of the surf - so thrilling! Considered restraining myself but decided against it - wooo-hoo! I don't know when I felt so alive in recent years! We walked along the beach, a beautiful sunny day (not warm, though). I am reminded how much I need such-like in my life.

Just thinking, it's been a very good week in some ways. I did the second-to-last interview for the year for a series I write about local artists and had a wonderful chat with the artist about deep and thought-provoking areas. Great talk, and I also feel like I may have found a new friend. She was very happy with the article, too, and I feel pretty good about it.

Add in the big, happy family party I hosted last Sunday, the fact that I'm recovering from whatever the hellish neck thing was, and the fact that I'm making some money --- Yes, it's been a good week :D

Ohhhhh, SO much to say to everyone, and yet I know that if I start now I'll be here for another hour that I can't spare... I'm going to try to do installments, I think. A few at a time...

Flower, a huge congrats to you! And your dress was wonderful -- like Eydie, I definitely want one for myself. Hmmmm.... did you say you got it mail order?

Anagram, that is FANTASTIC news! Oh, to reclaim the sweetness of everyday life after such a time! Enjoy!

Amarantha, thanks for the 1-Weeker! I'm going to start a new one on Monday. Last week wasn't perfect, but I really did pretty well, and the commitment was a big part of that!

Kaylets, thank you for the continued thoughts and questions - even when I don't have time to read all the posts, I try to go back and get all of these. Table manners -- always appropriate (at least when one is not alone) IMO. However, these are situational. Some are fixed, though -- chewing with mouth closed being one example.

Eydie, wouldn't we look fabulous in that dress!!! I must say, I really appreciate knowing what you look like. Gorgeous!

Okey-dokey. Time to be productive. Love to all, mentioned or unmentioned! Let's make this a Wonder-full day!

Wildfire 04-19-2003 06:18 PM

Struggling to hold on today....DH and I were out doing errands and I was suddenly famished...headache, shaky, couldn't concentrate...drop in blood sugar! The closest thing was a KFC, and I had their new chicken fillet sandwich. Okay, so it was about half the calories I wanted to eat for the whole day, but I'm trying to salvage the day with lots of water to flush out the extra fat, and a big salad planned for supper with these great frozen chicken quesadillas that are only 253 calories each. Topped with a little salsa, they're great!

I'll go for a trek on the treadmill later to burn off some of those unplanned extra calories. Life happens, right? Just a week ago I would have turfed the whole day since I'd already blown it at lunch, but :nono:....I'm getting back on the horse!

The :queen: of Bargains has struck again! I found these gorgeous men's dress pants on sale...regular $60.00 a pair, they were going for $19.99 (AND came with a leather belt), so I bought hubby two pairs in navy and a dark taupe. They fit him perfectly and have such a nice drape to them! I just have to hem them for him.

I got a yummy recipe from a friend for Morning Glory muffins that I'm eager to try. I just have to figure out how to calculate the per muffin calories/fat/carb/protein/etc. I've thought of looking it all up on FitDay and adding all the ingredients together. Any other ideas?

Eydie, every once in a while it's a good thing to restate our goals and the reasons for aspiring to them. This weight thing is on my mind every day, every minute....but sometimes I forget why it's so important and see it more as a burden. Of course we all want to look better, fit into smaller clothes, etc....but those are the superficial reasons. I'm working on finding out WHY I eat when I'm not really hungry. What is this strange relationship I have with food, and why do I have it with food and not people? Hmmmm... :chin:

Arabella, your day at the beach sounds divine! I'm trying to convince hubby that we need a week by ourselves on PEI, perhaps after DD goes to stay with my sister this summer. I'm going to start shopping around for a cabin. The ones we stayed in a few years ago for the family reunion were wonderful, but quite pricey for a week. We don't need something so large if it's just the two of us.

Kaylets, in my not so humble opinion, good table manners are ALWAYS appropriate! There is nothing so completely annoying to me than people who chew with their mouths open, slurp soup or beverages, talk with their mouths full, shovel food, etc. My very proper grandmother made sure we knew it all, and it has worked! I'm amazed with the table manners (well, lack thereof) of some people we encounter in restaurants. They would be better suited to feeding troughs! Okay, rant over. :D

Going to surf on PEI...will be back later!

Kaylets 04-19-2003 07:30 PM

Hi everyone!

Spoke w/ mom today and she likes the initial idea I came up w/ the ivy !! SO I ran and bought more of the inexpensive candles in glass and will go and find more ivy-- not sure how big a "wreath" I want at the base. Am also wondering how it would like with just a hint of gold glitter sprayed on the glass......

Oh, dear, KFC-- I would be in trouble too!! Its amazing to me how we are carrying extra weight but we still forget to eat!?!
Good going on the bargain for DH!! Nothing like well dressed man.

Yes Arabella-- good for you, "Just doing it" --- Sounds like you couldnt believe how long it had been since you'd been there!!
Your description had me selling saltwater and hearing seagulls!!

As for table manners--- when did talking w/ food in your mouth become acceptable? Talking on the phone much less!! Since when do we not have enough time to finish swallowing??
Never forget the first time the stepchildren saw me french fries w/ a fork. Of course, I know that's a stretch but still priceless.

Speaking of which, did I mention DS is now working at a pizza place? And might even have a job next week at a CD/DVD store??
We'll see what happens..........

well, the rhubarb is back up in the garden!
Which reminds me, remember last summer when I was hauling water outside from my dehumidifier to water my baby dwarf fruit trees during the drought?? They're budding!!! One of apple trees is even flowering!! Now there's a lesson in patience !!
I thought for sure I'd lose all of them and all 3 came back!! The rasberry bushes are doing a crazy Robin Williams impression and trying to take over whereever they can reach " We're BACK- AND we're not going to climb the trellis" -- My new climbing hydrangeas are budding and growing too- But the blueberry bushes are gone -- gone without a trace-- oh well-

not bad I guess, the crabapple tree would have gotten too big and we knew we'd have to dig it up. That's why we got the 3 dwarf fruit trees- and the blueberry bushes were really really tiny so it would have been a long time b/4 we saw fruit from them.
So-- as I said, during those hot, dry days, I wondered why I was lugging water when all things pointed to a waste of time.
Some things just need time. Like it or not.

Think we're running out to the library. We ordered Signs and its in.

I'll be back !!

Arabella 04-19-2003 07:55 PM

Wildfire, let me know if you're coming to PEI. I would love to get together while you were here!

Kaylets, I so envy you all your fruit! We had wild blueberries, raspberries and strawberries the last place we lived, but you would literally have to spend the day collecting them if you wanted to have enough to do anything with -- other than a sprinkle on cereal.

Wildfire 04-19-2003 08:46 PM

Feeling rather satisfied after my big salad and 48 oz of water! Finishing my eating for the day with a hot cup of coffee...I don't indulge often in coffee, but I do enjoy it when I do. The carafe is full, help yourselves!

You know, if we believed everything we read on those information pamphlets they give you with prescriptions now, you'd never take medicine again! The NSAID my doc prescribed for the pain in my back has some doozies....stomach bleeding, nausea, vomiting, headache, impaired concentration...hey, this is supposed to HELP, not make things worse! We shall see...

Kaylets, so I'm NOT the only one who eats french fries with a fork! My grandmother taught us that the only time you eat french fries with your fingers is if it is fast food, because they don't supply proper utensils!! If you order them in a real restaurant, you should use your fork. I believe her only exceptions that counted as finger food were spareribs and bacon. I've since added chicken wings to that list because they are impossible to eat with a fork and knife. Hubby and I have an ongoing debate in which I insist that pork chops are NOT finger food! :nono:

I totally agree...there is nothing like a well-dressed man! Our company allows casual dress, and I'm trying to convince him to get out of his jeans more...er...that is, to not wear them as often...he looks great in them, but I like to see him dressed up, too! I save my jeans for Fridays. I just don't feel professional wearing jeans to work every day.

I think a spray of gold would be very nice on the candles.

You know, your story about watering the fruit trees has a lesson....one we should apply to ourselves. Even when it seems like our efforts are in vain, one day we'll see the results!

I liked Signs, but I found it to be more about his family than the aliens. I was expecting a scary movie, but it really wasn't.

Arabella, I was thinking the same...wouldn't it be great to get together? If we are able to go, it would be sometime in August. Of course, by then we're going to be at or near goal and we can take fabulous pictures to share with the rest of the group! Most likely we'll stay in the Cavendish area. I want to be a stone's throw from the shore. Someday I'm going to live on PEI. Or at least spend June - October there each year! :D

I've babbled enough....better finish those dishes.

Amarantha2 04-20-2003 02:37 AM

Okay, now I'm really getting envious ... I've lived in PEI off and on in my imagination ever since I first read Anne of Green Gables and the sequels ... and reread them ... and reread them ... and ...

Made some bodybuilder oatmeal cookies today with oatmeal (2 cups), Myoplex Lite vanilla powder (one scoop), turabundo (sp?) sugar (one tablespoon), egg (one), baking powder (dash), DaVinci SF vanilla syrup (dash). Made nine good sized cookes at 96 calories each, rather low in sugar and decent in protein and fiber.

Just felt like posting that! :)

Kaylets 04-20-2003 08:28 AM

Scrumptious Sunday!

Hello all!!

Have been reminded this am in the planning of my folks' party how "brainstorming" can start so many great ideas and carry the process to a higher level.

Common goals plus shared energy. That's the secret of support groups-- For all our many differences, we are still more alike than different. We come here to share, we leave motivated. We understand by extending ourselves, we are helping ourselves.

Spring is the season of renewal. We've been celebrating renewal and recommitment each day, each meal, each choice. We are in a very real sense, recreating our life styles--
By sharing our energies, we are taught as much as we teach.
We are discovering fire!!!!!!!!!

Today's thought is:

"Perhaps this very instant is your time....." Louise Bogan

Today's question is:

"What is your favorite book? " from Table Topics

Empress, I think we have a good idea of one of yours!!
But how did the cookies taste??

I 'm getting hungry!

Arabella, I enjoyed my vision of you at the beach! How often do you get to go? Makes me want to go back...

Wildfire, did you make your morning glory muffins? I love those--like little carrot cakes for breakfast! If when you analyze the calorie count of your muffins and it turns out to be something lethal, I have a recipe for them from 'Cooking Light' that I could share.

Amarantha, thanks for posting your recipe. I have some Spiritein plain protein powder---maybe I could substitute that. I need to make myself some treats that I can take to work this week.

Kaylets, I really do enjoy your questions! My favorite book of all time is "The Mists of Avalon" by Marian Zimmer Bradley. What's yours?

Happy Easter to those who celebrate!

Hey, wouldn't it be cool if we all met this summer...say on PEI? :D I would love to plan a get-together where we could all spend a weekend together. Somewhere more central, though, as PEI would be quite a distance for most of you! What a fabulous weekend that would be!

Amarantha, what is turabundo? You really have to visit PEI if you've never been. It's the prettiest place...."untouched" is how I see it. There are still vast fields and farmland and seascapes at every turn, and quaint little towns and the friendliest people.

I don't think I could name one favorite book. I've read too many that I really enjoyed!

Eydie, no I haven't made the muffins yet. I need a few ingredients first. Of course I'm going to substitute applesauce for the oil the recipe calls for, and use egg beaters instead of eggs!

I posted my success with the one-week challenge on that thread, but I have to tell you all I lost 3lbs this week! :cb:

So, have we made any decisions on a new thread? How about Victoria Day, May 19th? We can use Amarantha's inspirational quote from the Queen about not entertaining the possibility of failure? We shall all be Victory Queens. That would be four weeks away, and after that we could go to Canada/Independance Day which would be six weeks. Any takers? Other suggestions? Yeas or Nays? :D

Sunday II

Wildfire-- I love it! Yes, it would add just the right touch to remind
us how we regal we really are!!

I really think its the best!! And a chance to learn more about the holiday too!!

Did I hear you volunteering to start us off?? I think I hear the movers coming up path to help rearrange the parlor-- They await your command!!!

what do you think??

As for favorite books, yes, I too have many-- I still love James Michner -- have reread The Souce, Cheseapeake and Centennial many times- also loved Sarum by an author I can't recall--
Those books are great to get lost in. As for inspiration and reflection-- the last novel that made me really think was "The Hand Maidens Tale"-- I recommend it if you are not familiar- If you saw the movie, please read the book, the movie did not do it justice. Victoria Moran's books gave me much to think about as well as Max Lucado and two books by Mother Teresa. As you can see, my taste in books is as ecclectic as my taste in music. I do favor biographies --

Need to run out for a minute- DH and I got a terrific deal on eggplant las t night and he is baking eggplant slices to freeze but some will go into a casserole for dinner.

PS-- Did one coat of glitter on the candle glass and I think we have a winner!

Hmmm. I DID misspell it ... it's turbinado aka washed raw pure cane sugar ... I love it and live under the impression it is healthier than the refined kind. Soon I'm going to have oatmeal with that in it!

I would love to come to PEI and visit with all of you ... except I don't have anyone to take care of Old Dog and Silly Cat ... must think on this! :)

I'm going to change my profile to reflect a Victoria Day goal ... since I do a weigh-in on Sundays, May 18 will be my Victoria Day goal. As you might notice, I'm fond of Queen Victoria, so that should work out nicely!

Yes, the Anne books are among my favorites ... but gosh that's a hard question if one tries to narrow it down ... one wants to say something quite adult and erudite, but in truth it's children's books and light reading that have had the most impact on my life ... here's a list of my top favorites ... can't get it any closer than that ... these aren't in any order:

The Anne books

Little Women & sequels

Gone With the Wind

The Hobbit & Ring Triology

The Harry Potter books

The Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam (sp?)

Islandia

East of Eden

Wildfire 04-20-2003 01:17 PM

Amarantha, thanks for the explanation of turbinado. I'd never heard of it before. Is it alright, then, if we borrow your Queen Victoria inspiration? :^: Old Dog could travel with you to PEI (if Old Dog is the travelling type) but Silly Cat probably wouldn't like it so much.

Kaylets, sure, I'll start the new thread! Maybe later tonight, so it will be fresh and waiting for everyone on Fresh Start Monday.

What shall we be? Victorious Victorias? Victory Queens? Or maybe we should have Queen Victoria's Royal Court? I'm open to anything, so if any of you creative personalities can come up with a zinger, please share!

I'm off to ye Royal Treadmill.

Kaylets 04-20-2003 03:23 PM

Sunday again

Still rosy from a nap-

Wildfire- any of those choices sounds fine to me- especially the Royal Court but you know best.

Looks like its 70 degrees and for sure its very sunny. Dogs have been in and out 1/2 dozen times and once even dozed off in the sun on the patio.

PEI sounds like fun ! Never been over the border- came close but never officially left the US.

Maybe a cup of tea is in order.

Amarantha2 04-20-2003 05:16 PM

Turbinado is super in chai ... will whisk one off to the islands with a taste!

I like Victory Queens or any of the names, Wildfire! :)

Don't think they'd let Old Dog cross the border. I used to go to Canada all the time when I lived in Michigan, but never so far as PEI! My favorite thing to do there, unfortunately, was to eat something called a butter tart ... you don't want to know how delicious these were or how calorific. What was I thinking?

Have to go back to work now. This doesn't seem like a holiday at all. I really need a new profession.

I've changed the name of my personal weight loss initiative to Project One Two Three ... will report tonight or tomorrow morning in the boot camp thread ... am doing fab if I say so myself! :)

Wildfire 04-20-2003 06:18 PM

Oh, Amarantha, I know allllll about butter tarts! Very well acquainted with them! They even made the MasterCard commercials here in Canada...Buttertarts $2.50/dozen....something about a hockey stick being $15.00, Canoe lesson $50.00...living in a country with the freedom to do all this, priceless. Or something like that.

hi all!

anagram-what great news for your husband and you!

wildfire-congrats on the 3lbs lost!

and hi to everyone else! i've been thinking of you all. i had a pleasant weekend. one of my best friends and his girfriend brought over 2 13 week old sheltie puppies to visit me on sat., since i haven't been able to get out too much recently and of course, because i love puppies! they were so cute and it was fun having them tearing around my apt. last night, another friend took me out to dinner in my wheelchair (which i have to use at times.) i've had it for over 2 years now, but sometimes, even after all this time, i am self-conscious about it every now and then. anyway, my friend has a great sense of humor, and we laughed a lot last night! even though i might not have felt too great physically, i had a very nice weekend. my food wasn't all that great for part of it, but i seem to be back on track now. well, have a pleasant day, everyone! take care.

all the best,
wsw
