Default What does it mean when...

Your weight goes down but your measurements go up? It's probably nothing I need to worry about, but I'm still curious. I weighed myself the other day and the scale said I lost 2-3lbs, but when I went to measure myself, the tape measure said I'd gained an inch everywhere! I guess it can fluctuate, but it's still weird. What do y'all think?

Is it possible you measured differently? When we measure, it can make a huge difference where you put the tape and how hard you pull on it, along with water weight, muscle weight, etc. I would say keep measuring and hopefully you'll see a good overall trend.

Either you've measured incorrectly(ie not in the exact same spots), your holding water weight, or your body composition has changed...Only thing I can think of

LOTS of things can change your measurements (even just temporarily).

All these things affect your measurements:

-TOM/ovulation
-Heavy lifting (any workout for that matter) but heavy lifting tears your muscles and they retain water for a day or two afterwards while your body repairs the muscles
-Too much salt
-Did you measure first thing in the morning because I get wider as the day goes by!
-Heat

Also, just basics, make sure the measuring tape is parallel to the floor (hard to do sometimes!) and that you're measuring from the exact same spot. Don't even bother comparing measurements in different bras because those will be different for sure.

I would think your measurments are off. Or TOM. I don't like to measure myself. I go by my weight and how my clothes fit. Do your clothes feel tighter?

One trick to make sure your tape is in the same spot (or as close to as possible) is to measure how far down it is. For example, if you're measuring your waist, measure from your underarm to your natural waist, then place the tape there every time. Same thing for thighs, arms, calves, etc. It seems to help.

And yes, as others have said there are many other reasons measurements can go up. For me, bloat is a huge one. I've only lost 10 lbs but so much of it is water weight I can tell a difference, albeit a small one, in my tummy.
