Just when you think the Christmas leftovers are gone...

...the doorbell rings and its my neighbor, who I really don't know, bringing a platter of cookies and chocolate covered pretzels to my door.

I was so proud of getting through the holidays relatively unscathed on the scale, but now I have this plate of homemade treats on my counter looking at me.

It was a really nice gesture for sure - something that doesn't happen much anymore I'd guess, but man, it's like I'm a freaking magnet.

I live on an acreage in the middle of nowhere and cookies still magically appear in my house!

The exact same thing happened to me today and I broke down and gave in to a binge and I had been doing well. grrrrrr. Right back at it tomorrow :)

Very nice of the neighbor...

Can you take it to work? or another event? give it to another neighbor? :dizzy:

CherryQuinn 12-29-2011 07:26 PM

you could always give them away the same way he did or throw them out

ArtyKay 12-29-2011 08:07 PM

Trash can! you don't have to eat them to fulfill some social obligation to be polite. Give them away or have a cookie and trash the rest.

rainydays 12-29-2011 08:12 PM

Very nice gesture, but if I couldn't give them away, I'd throw them away. You can resist, be strong!

lin43 12-29-2011 09:10 PM

I agree with everyone else about giving them away or throwing them away (hey, maybe your neighbor had the same thought :) ). I would probably take one bit of the cookie and/or pretzel just so you can compliment your neighbor when you run into her.

Cheeky cheeky neighbor that one~! Betcha he/she is on a diet and there was just a little bit more than being nice/neighborly going on. *EVIL GRIN*

Just kidding. I got a box of Godivas and chocolate cordial (liquor) cherries yesterday from 2 bosses at work (a coworker brought them home Friday and we got together for lunch yesterday). They sat on the dining room table until late last night when I moved them into the bread cabinet where I don't need to be reminded of them. I don't want them...I don't. However, I don't need to have them sitting on the table, seducing me. Ha. I have a feeling that the cordials, at least, will be disappearing New Year's eve as a "bring along" if we wind up going to a potential party. The Godivas, however, my daughter won't let me regift.

Bah! don't you hate that??? Try to think of when you are running onthe beach and your fit boss that is not achieved by eating cookies!!! shame on her. O never give women treats on holidays for this reason. I give plants and fruit baskets. Sheesh. I don't know who came up with the rule people should give fat on the holidays.there only needs to be one Mrs clause.

I just dumped a very similar sounding platter in the trash yesterday. I conciderd taking them to our rural neighbors house but decided they probably wouldnt want stale cookies either. If I'm going to waste the calories on junk it's not going to be on 2 week old cookies...(but maybe if they were freshly baked today!) ;)

Unna 12-30-2011 10:05 AM

I just got back from visiting my boyfriend's mother - she was trying to dump EVERYHING on us!

I love how they make it seem like they are just being giving...... ach..... when really, they are either re-gifting or they made too much themselves and need to give it away because they feel guilty throwing it away.

They get the privilege of "giving a gift" and all I get in the end is the guilty conscious from "having to throw away a gift". It is really not fair. It is a lose-lose situation. If I eat the unhealthy food, I feel bad. If I throw away edibles, I also feel bad.

Also, I find having older food (any food with tons of preservatives) in the house a bit depressing.

PrairieGirl 12-30-2011 12:22 PM

I sprayed febreeze on a bunch of leftover treats and trashed them.

marigrace 12-30-2011 12:25 PM

If the cookies appear to be stale,it isn't worth the calories. Crush and flush them. If they seem really good, choose a favorite to have with dinner, and flush the rest.
