New Years Resolutions?

Do you make New Years resolutions? In the past I have never consciously made a specific resolution but I'm thinking maybe it would be helpful in my new weight loss endeavor. Do you make weight, food or exercise resolutions (or all 3)? What are they this year? Have you stuck to them in the past or do you think they're kind of pointless?

ShanIAm 12-27-2011 08:03 PM

They only became pointless to me after I failed to keep whatever resolution I made that particular year. :D But seriously, no, I don't think they are pointless. There is just something about equating a New Year to a new start. I have always made the "lose weight" resolution but it wasn't until 2011 did I actually stick to my resolution. But that's because I had a lot of reasons to lose weight.... My 20th high school reunion, my grandmother's 100th birthday party, meeting someone in person that I had been talking to online for over a year and a vacation to Florida.

My resolution this year is to lose these last 15 or so pounds and keeping it off!

My goal for 2012 is to run a half marathon by the end of the year. Ideally, I'd like to meet that goal by April, but I'd be happy to accomplish it anytime up until the last day of they year. I want to run faster and longer in 2012!

My next goal is to tone and firm up my body and reduce my body fat percentage. I really want to be more consistent with weight training- going at least 3 times a week.

My new year's resolution is to move out on my own at some point this year. I've been saving my pennies.

I'm going to be 24. Time to leave the nest!

Not really weight-related, but any time I've made a weight-related resolution, I never did it. Although, being able to cook what I want and have the food that I want (and the food I don't want won't be there) will make it easier to maintain, so living on my own will help my weight I suppose.

re:

This year no matter where I am on the way towards goal, I will never gain back more than 20 lbs from what I am currently that day.

(does that even make sense?!)

This is definitely going to be a resolution for me. I'm making 2012 a year of doing what I need to do to be the person I want to be... this includes losing those "last 15" lb that I've wanted to lose for a few years now. I've thankfully kept off all the weight I lost the first time around, but those last 15 have seriously overstayed their welcome, and I think 2012 is the year to finally say good riddance to them.

Lose weight and save money :D, they seem to go really well together because I'll stop and think do I really want to spend $12 on this crappy fast food meal? I'm motivated by the money savings and then motivated by the subsequent weight loss, rinse and repeat.

I've made the same resolution for the last 10 years and have had no trouble keeping it so for 2012 I resolve to:
1) Always take time to stop and smell the flowers
2) To hug my children
3) Only eat real chocolate, life is too short to waste calories on artificially flavored junk.

There are others I could add, like keep smiling and don't forget to talk to strangers, but those 3 resolutions have worked for me so why change

Arctic Mama 12-28-2011 01:28 PM

I don't do resolutions, but I have a list of goals I want to achieve. Whatever works to motivate you is what you should do!

KaeLynnB 12-28-2011 02:38 PM

Can't make resolutions anymore...thats why I've FAILED many times before, and decided to start this weightloss at a nonspecific time...i just started....But like artic mama, i too have goals...one is to start going to the gym (I have a free one I can go to...and haven't used it...Crazy RIGHT!?)

Unna 12-28-2011 03:01 PM

I try to make resolutions, but by January 5th or so, I've already forgotten.

I'm going to first resolve to remember my resolution! My resolution is going to be: eat more green. work out arms.

I hope I don't forget!

DrivenByAmbition 12-28-2011 03:43 PM

I have in the past, but do not keep them. So now I just try to keep my eye on the prize without promising myself anything.

cherrypie 12-28-2011 04:08 PM

I'm calling them "plans" for the new year this year. maybe that will help?

Tennis...a guy i'm dating would like to teach me to play tennis. If i can take off 10 more lbs....I'm game.

ArtyKay 12-28-2011 06:20 PM

Lose weight (hoping to be at or near my goal this time next year...)

Save money. I mean REALLY save money. I'm hoping to set back at least $500-$1000 a month in savings. We'll have to pinch pennies til our fingers go numb..
