Default calorie question

ok..

my husband and I were trying to add up the calories I'd had today (including dinner I already have ready and measured). and it came up to be around 835 calories.

now, i haven't done any exercise or anything. I have a 19 month old, so I've played with her, done some shopping, worked on a project (putting papers in order, etc), and cooked a little.

That's it.

He says I'm not eating enough.

what do you think?

I think he's right, lol. Even if you're calorie cycling, I still don't think that would be enough for one day. Just my opinion.

He is right that is not enough calories. I would think you should have 1400-1500 at least.

ok thanks!

I'm typically not a very hungry person (I eat because I'm bored or upset), so I have a hard time actually telling if I'm hungry or not.

IMPO, learning the cues of actual hunger is very important to lasting weight loss. And I agree, 835 calories is not enough. Your daily intake should be at least 1200, but go to a calorie calculator to figure what YOU need.

Here's one to try:

If you aren't hungry, I think it's fine. If you are hungry, eat a little more. But I wouldn't worry about a day here and there that is low, chances are you will have days where you are more hungry and want to eat a bit more. It all balances out.

Assuming protein intake was adequate and you ate a variety of non processed I don't see any reason why at 4'11" you need to eat more if you're not hungry.

She is 4'11". Unless she is really active she will likely gain on 1400-1500 calories. I personally have counted calories for a year and I average about .7 pounds loss a week. I average about 1200 calories a day. On weeks I am very active I can maybe add 100 calories on active days, but I can't eat 1400-1500 calories a day unless I want to gain weight. While you may be able to lose weight on that number of calories at 5' that is just not going to work for a lot of people.

yeah, 1400 would probably make me gain. I'm short I have a 19 month old that I chase around all day, but I wouldn't say I'm super active. I play games with my daughter, do laundry, clean the house, cook dinner, etc...

then, at night, I sit at a computer in an office for 5-8 hours at a time. Yes, I'm busy and don't get to sleep much- haha.

I did eat a little more today and ended at around 1000-1100 calories, but I actually ate more than I have been today.
