Stupid Scale!

  • I have a "Weight Watchers" scale with a lithium battery. It sits on a hard surface (tile floor in bathroom). It has LOST ITS MIND!

It has done things like this a couple of times.... but this morning it read 198.6 before I used the bathroom and, of course, I was ECSTATIC because I'm drooling over onederland! I weight once more to be sure... yep, still 198.6!

However, AFTER I went to the bathroom, it read 202.6. I was crushed. I moved it a little to see if that made a difference. Just 202.4 this time.

I went on to do other things and decided to give it one more shot. 203!!! I'm gaining weight this morning!!

First, is it possible to weigh more as you get moving in the morning?

Second, what scales do you use or recommend?

Oh, and I'm not weighing any more today!
  • Maybe its time for a new battery??? Wait and see what it says in the morning, maybe it will have found its mind.
  • My scale isn't WW but I tend to see the same thing happen. On weighin day I always weight as soon as I get up after I go to the bathroom. I've had it happen before where a short time later I've had to go to the bathroom again and think, "Oh that should mean I weight even less." So I'll hop on the scale again and it actually goes up a couple ounces! I have no clue why it does that but I've learned to just step on the scale once and be done so I don't drive myself crazy. =)
  • Oh that's just mean!! Whenever I see a good weight on my scale I weigh ONCE more to make sure, than leave it alone for the day. Pretend you did that! Tomorrow weigh again and see.

Sorry I don't know enough about scales to give a recommendation, mine is nothing special and sometimes spazzes out like yours did today.

Congrats on onederland, even if it was only for a moment!!
  • I bought a digital called "Health O Meter" at Walmart over a year ago for under $20. It still works fine.
  • Is your scale on the first floor? I live on a second floor apartment and the floor in my bathroom is a little bit uneven, and so mine does that sometimes. I found a place where it seems to be the most 'centered' and it's usually accurate now.
  • Sheesh, I'm saving up to get this scale on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/EatSmart-Preci...=1XXG9AF417ARO It's only $28.95 on that site and free shipping.

People here say it's super accurate and get the same weight no matter how many times they step on it.
  • I say do the exact same thing tomorrow and see what it says.

Whenever my scale shows a loss I get on it a second time and if it shows the same weight I take it and run for the hills . If it doesn't show a loss or even the dreaded gain then I only weigh once.

Maybe that should be my Onderland treat to myself...

    Great idea!
  • Mine does that all the time. It's a Taylor that's almost 6 years old. Drives me crazy! I also have a Taylor analog one that always says I'm about 5lbs lighter than the digital one. I have a scale on my shopping list, but new running shoes are first!
  • Mine does this too!!! I've learned...I get on it first thing in the morning....If I get on it twice, and it says the same thing twice in a row (Sometimes 3 times in a row) I take it and I'm DONE!!!
  • I have a digital glass scale (not sure the make) anyway it does crazy mean things too sometimes. When it started getting really wonky I changed the battery and that helped.

However I have found that when I get a surprise low or high weight I step off wait till it turns it self off and get on again if it says the same thing then I except that weight if it says something different I will step off again wait till it turns off and step on again it will usually then give me the same number I got the second time.

Anyway sometimes I think there is a mean gremlin living in my scale that just likes to mess with me
  • I thought I was the only one that saw a gain after going to the bathroom! It's a joke in my house now. I think I have the same WW scale.
  • pockets - my analog scale also says I'm five pounds lighter than my digital scale?! Weird, but can't say I hate pretending I'm down five pounds
