:badbat: Halloween for me this year (and every yr) is typically not a big deal.
I don’t do trick-or-treaters, but when I did, I bought candy I didn’t like. I don’t have kiddos, so I don’t have to worry about left-over candy. If I did though, I would choose to carry it to work and leave it at the nurse’s stations. There are always plenty of people who like to grab & go. I don’t have to work Halloween—which I never schedule myself, b/c lots of ghouls visit our hospital that night, which turns out to be a disaster for us.

:thanks2: Thanksgiving this yr is the holiday I get off. (We have to rotate each year with Christmas.) I will skip breakfast and eat at my parents/sister’s and then again at my MILs. I will make this a 1800-2000 cal day. I will also eat only the things that I absolutely love and if I don’t think it’s worth the cals, I will not eat it. I will limit myself to only my fave dessert (ONE) at each house. Usually, I each dessert first & a few other times during Thanksgiving weekend & bring some home, but not this yr. I’d rather eat dessert.

:tree: Christmas Eve, I will work & this will be a 1800-2000 cal day, but only b/c I do bad each time I work. Christmas Day, I will sleep,

:newyear: NYE/Day…eh I can take it or leave it, but the celebrations of mine and my niece’s birthday on the 30th and 26th, respectively will be a disaster. :celebrate: However, this yr on my birthday—the usual cake celebration will consist of CHOCOLATE. I don’t like chocolate, but everyone else—except my dad—does. So, I am volunteering to make my own cake and it will be something they love and something I don’t! :carrot:

 As far as ETOH is concerned… This will be an issue! I love Merlot and will have several glasses of it during Nov-Jan. I haven’t planned a strategy for this yet.

For me, as long as I don’t gain during this time, I will consider it a win. But then again I’ve been maintaining this weight since July, so I guess I’m kind of used to it. I think it is unrealistic for me to think that I will lose over the holidays/birthdays of the season when I haven’t been able to lose any weight since July!

Thanksgiving in my house is full of somewhat healthy foods - aside from the alcohol - anyway: turkey, tofurkey, mushroom and turkey gravy, homemade cranberry sauce, vegetarian stuffing, sweet potatoes, whole grain cornbread, vegetarian collard greens, low cal green bean casserole, so it's just a matter of not overeating for the day. That's just fine with me because all though high school I had my homecoming dance on Thanksgiving night, so I'm not used to eating much so that I could fit into my fitted dress! ;) Not only that, if I overeat, I tend to have ulcer-like pain. It's so not worth it.

Christmas eve is usually appetizers and drinks. We make homemade guacamole w/tortilla chips, low cal mushroom strudel, low cal buffalo chicken dip w/celery, chicken or edamame potstickers, etc.

Christmas has been a brunch for the past few years, and I've been making a low cal egg/bread/cheese/veggie brunch casserole to go with our TJ turkey bacon, soysage, and homemade whole wheat savory and sweet waffles (which I never eat as I'm not a big waffle fan). I just have to watch for the mimosas and bloody mary's.

I think I'm more concerned about the holidays being an alcohol and processed food fest than anything.

Would you all care for company on the holidays?
If so, please email me an e-vite!
This sounds delish!

I think you have to deal with the holidays the same way you deal with birthdays, barbecues, pastry spreads at office meetings, and every other food temptation that comes up over and over again all year round. Keep your eyes on the prize, plan ahead, and execute your plan.

"The holidays" are only a big deal if you let them be one, I think. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of cookies and treats that come around every single year - so it's not such a big deal to say no to them this one time. If you have a constant stream of parties, then it's that much easier to say no to the goodies because there is another opportunity right around the corner. Just tell yourself "not today" - and then repeat until the holidays are over.

my strategy is to treat every holiday like a normal day. if you tell yourself youc an eat more because it is a holiday, then you will. however, if you tell yourself, "hey, i will probably eat more later today" you could eat less in the morning, create a plan of what you want to eat for dinner (choosing whether you will eat mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes or rolls instead of all three), and even work out in the morning since hey! we've got the day off since it is a holiday!

I really like the idea of the one plate rule: Get want you want and how much you want, BUT you only have one plate to put it on. When the plate is full, it is full. You are done. :)
