How much do you lose a week?
I was just wondering how much people lose on average per week, and what kind of plan you are following.
Pure curiosity. :D |
I've only been trying to lose for a month.
So far I'm averaging about four pounds a week. I'm counting calories on livestrong/myplate & exercising. |
Not enough it seems. My weight loss has slowed way down, if I am lucky, I lose a half a pound a week. GRR
|
I am doing the Dukan Diet, which is low carb AND low fat. I didn't do much beside a little walking for the first 3 months, but for the past 6 weeks, I've been working out every day, it's about 30-35 minutes a day at this point, hoping to work up to more! (I started at 20 minutes a day the beginning of Sept so it's good progress already)
I'm averaging about 2.6 lbs per week, and that's with taking out the 5 lbs I lost the first week, otherwise, it's 2.75. I think my lowest was about 1.6 and I've had a couple of 4 lbs weeks too, but usually it's somewhere right around 2.2-2.6 |
I'm losing an average of two pounds per week. It's certainly not that way every week. Some weeks I'll lose more and some I'll lose less but it all averages out to 2 pounds.
I'm calorie counting. |
I'm calorie counting also. I lose 0-2 lb per week. I've been at it for 13 weeks and have lost 22lb. That averages out to 1.6lb per week.
Hey, it's coming off faster than I thought when I average it out like that :D |
I lose about 2 lbs a week. I'm not on a particular diet plan. I cut out all alcohol, soda, juice, sugar, honey, and processed foods, and I avoid potatoes, rice and pasta. I try to watch my portions at meal time.
|
For long time I was losing about 2lbs/month. It's now a bit quicker at about 4-5lbs/month BUT almost all that weight comes off after I ovulate/before my period so it's in a fairly small window. Most of the month I don't see any loss at all.
I'm basically following my own plan that consists of little to no sugar, whole grains, low carbish, lots of fruit and veggies and lots of protein. I also make myself away of portion sizes/calories but I don't calorie count. |
About 2-3 pounds per week. I am still nursing my baby, so I don't want to push it too hard right now.
|
I count my calories and have been losing one pound per week.
But today I upped my calories to lose 3/4 pound per week. :woops: I just don't have enough energy, so I upped the calories. :smug: I can do this...I know I can. It's just going to take time and patience. |
Sometimes I am lucky if I lose a pound a week. Usually I stay the same for 3 weeks but on the forth week my body drops 5-8lbs in a couple days. Weird, right? It would average out to 1.2 - 2lbs a week if it would come off steadily.
I am calorie counting and exercising. I also do not eat junk food unless I have preplanned a "cheat" snack/meal, I try my best to stay away from processed food and get my servings of veggies/fruit. |
I'm on a pretty aggressive plan right now through my gym called the 20/20 lifestyles program and lost 86 lbs. in 20 weeks (average of 4.3 lbs. per week). It consists of working out 5 days per week (although I've been doing 6) and eating between 1200-1350 calories per day (40% protein, 35% carbs, 25% fat). My husband is on the plan too and he has lost 77 lbs. in the past 20 weeks as well.
|
On average for the weeks I have data, 2.5 lbs per week. If I divide total weight lost by total number of weeks I've been at this, it's 2.7 lbs per week. Weight lost in any given week has ranged from 0 to 5.9 lbs, and I once had a week with a gain.
I am a calorie counter; I eat 1200-1500 calories per day, and exercise 5 days per week. |
I probably lose less than a pound a week.:o I'm eating 1400kcal/day and I'm only exercising about two times a week now. Need to step up my game!

I lose about a pound a week, but it only averages out to that when I look at a long period of time, a couple of months. Some weeks I don't lose anything or even gain a pound or two. Other weeks, I have a whoosh and lose 2-3 pounds.
I feel strongly that what matters is not whether you weigh less this week than last week - it's whether you weigh less now than you did a month or two or six ago that is the real measure of success. My plan is basically calorie counting. I don't count calories strictly every day, but I have a target amount in mind and I have been at this long enough that I know what foods in what amounts and what combinations I should eat in my daily routine to hit that target. I do count strictly for a week or so each month, just as a reality check, and to make sure my portions aren't creeping. I also exercise 4-5 days a week. |
Calorie counting. 0-3 pounds a week. Average 1.5 pounds, but now it is 0-1 pounds a week.
|
I've been at it 3 weeks now and have lost 11 pounds in that time (did not put actual high on my ticker so as not to depress myself). ;) The first week was 6, the next 2 were 2 and 3 per. I'm calorie counting (1400 per day) and exercising 1/2 hour 6x/week.
|
On average it's been about 2.5lbs a week. Then I hit a 3 week plateau and started strength training.... lost then about 5lbs in 3 weeks! But now the scale is super wonky (notice how I said it's the scale and not me HAHA!) that I'm gaining muscle losing inches and the weight is up 2lbs down 4lbs, then up 2lb down 1! Ahhhh, but my clothes are getting looser so I'm thinking a big whoosh is gonna happen soon I hope!
ETA: Not counting anything but by estimating (cause I do read the label before I eat it) I'd say I'm around 1500 cals a day. Doing high protein, mod carb, low fat. I exercise 5x a week (4 this week cause of the long weekend!) |
I generally lose 0.5-1 pound per week. I'm not on any specific plan because I feel like I get borderline-obsessive when I have to count everything, I just try to focus on eating whole foods, lots of veggies and fruits, and getting enough protein. Also, I work out 6 times a week for an hour each of those days. I do balletone 3x, flex (a weightlifting class) 2x, and usually a yoga/cardio mix on the sixth day. Seventh is ALWAYS rest. :)
That being said, the lack of a specific eating plan is probably why my loss is slower than many. However, it works for me, and I like not having to constantly stress about how many calories I'm consuming, and how long I have to work out to burn off what I just ate! As long as the number is going down, I'm not worried how quickly :) I've got time! |
Calorie counting (1250-1300 per day now - started at 1450 and have been dropping it as I go) and I have been losing an average of 2lbs a week. One week 0, next week 4, then 1, then 3, etc. I believe this is related to water retention due to my cycle, the pattern is consistent month to month.
|
I've been back on plan 5 weeks. I'm averaging 3.3 lbs a week but fully expect to see that slow down eventually. I calorie cycle in 2 week increments averaging 1200-1300 a day. I haven't started exercising yet but I plan on adding that next month.
|
LOL turtle here... 1-2 lbs a MONTH.
|
I have been on a Low Glycemic Index diet... lost 2-4 lbs a week.. Love this diet... it has put me into contact with healthy fruits and vegetables.. I have discovered that sugar doesn't compare to healthy foods..
|
It really depends on the week, sometimes I lose a lot like last week was a really good week. But, I usually am around 2-3 pounds a week now. Sometimes my body is weird, I tend to go in two week cycles like last week I lost 6 pounds when the week before I had only lost 1.5.
|
I am averaging 1 pound a week. But.....sometimes, I do not lose anything one week and then drop 2 pounds the next week and it all averages out to one pound a week.
|
I'm averaging about 2 pounds/week through calorie counting. Looking at the steady downward trend in my weekly average is really motivating, and helps me to keep the daily fluctuations in perspective.
|
It is all so individual. I used to lose more, now I lose less...I am still seeing progress so I am happy. I might have become discouraged if I compared myself to others when I first started. Now I know, that no one else is just like me.
|
I lose 1.2 pounds/week if you count the weeks I've had gains from bad eating over the weekend. If you aren't counting those weeks, I lose 1.5 pounds/week. :)
Even on the weeks I haven't been as good as I should have been, I still like to see the overall downward trend, and just remind myself how much work I've put into getting this far. |
During my whole weight loss stage I lost an average of 2.5 pounds per week and I counted calories staying at 1200/cal/day (most days) to 1500/cals/day (a few days) per week. I didn't cheat and I stayed on plan almost every single day. The few days (maybe 3-4) I did go over were for major holidays.
The first 6 months my average was more like 4 pounds/week. The next 6 months average was around 3 pounds per week and the last stretch was around 1 pound per week. |
I am counting calories, and have been averaging about 1/2 lb a week, but for whatever reason, going thru a dreaded PLAT-TOE (heh) right now. Haven't lost any weight in the past 3 weeks.
But I shall not freak out! - I'm gonna keep doing what I'm doing, and maybe step it up a bit with the exercise. :D |
i average exactly 1.5 pounds per week
|
Im counting calories 1200 per day, run at 6mph 30 minutes 6 days a week and lose 2-3 per week.
|
I eat 1200-1300 calories per day, do an hour of yoga 4x a week, and do 40 minutes on the elliptical about 5x a week. I'm averaging around 2-3 pounds...
...but, like some of the other posters, my weight loss is totally erratic. Regardless of how well I stay on plan, some weeks I lose 7 pounds and other weeks I gain 2 (I have NO idea how that works). |
I've been on plan for 7 weeks and have lost a little over 7lbs, so just about 1 pound per week. I work out 5 days a week, for between 30mins-1.5hr depending on how much time I have. My calorie limit during the week is 1500, although most days I eat around 1350. On the weekends, especially Sunday, I go off plan and eat about 1800 cal/day.
I've slipped with my eating, but haven't with my exercise at ALL. |
I count calories, and averaged out since the beginning of February I lose a little over 0.5 lbs per week. Granted, some weeks I lose 3 pounds, some none, and the average rate was higher near the beginning, closer to a pound per week.
|
1lb a week overall, which I believe is a reasonably fast rate, and certainly good for my size. From what I hear, 1-2lb a month is usual, based on WW meetings and the like. Either that's not quite right, or people are more likely to chime in on this thread if they're losing faster?
I'm calorie counting, and I'm on a vegan wholefoods diet. Due to disability, I'm not exercising, barring the odd minute (literally) on the exercise bike. You can see my weight loss graph in the link in my signature, along with my measurements, calories and so forth. |
I'm losing roughly 2lbs a week although I have a woosh once a month where I've lost 3-4. I haven't been counting calories but I've been making healthier choices and watching portion size. I lift weights w/ light cardio three times a week and then do more cardio two to three times a week. I've been working with a trainer once a week and it has helped a lot. He pushes me to do more than I would be doing if I was working out on my own.
19 lbs in 7.5 weeks. |
now this is making me feel better after reading this as im averaging 1-2lbs a week and thought it was pretty bad but obviously not :D
|
I'm losing an average of 3.5 a week... what's weird about that is I had the large initial drops, then it slowed down to closer to two. The last few weeks I've been dropping 3-4 lbs a week (since about 5 weeks into the diet). I'm not following any plan except counting calories (12-1400 a day) and working out, though number of times a week I'm working out has been erratic lately. It seems I *have to* get it done first thing or too many variables in the day with the kids and work derail my efforts.
