Eating and Exercise?
I wanted to jump rope right after dinner. And I soon discovered jumping up and down madly shakes up your innards. And whatever else is in your innards. My shake and bake chicken doesn't need an extra shake on the way down apparently. :dizzy: Anyway... what's your take on eating and exercise? Do you eat first then exercise or vice versa? :?:

I rarely do any heavy activity after a meal for the rieason you mention
I have a 90-minute rule - I don't work out within 1.5 hrs after eating.
I usually wait about 45 minutes after a meal before exercising.
I think I get that number from the old rule about not swimming right after you eat...:dizzy: I don't base it on anything scientific. |
I usually eat after but the truth is the more you do exercise the more it doesnt matter. Your body gets better at dealing with it.
The first year I ran I would be sick and hurt if I had any food in my stomach. Now I have had a sudden opportunity to run with a friend pop up right after a full meal and while I have to slow down it is doable. I even have a New Year's tradition to meet a couple girlfriends for a short slow run at 12:15 am. Post champagne and probably too much party food. |
I usually wait an hour after I eat if I have to get my exercise in during the day rather than in the morning before I eat.
I always have something to eat before I go to work out. Usually something light like yogurt or a string cheese, but I can't work out on an empty stomach!
I always work out on an empty stomach. I do IF (intermittent fasting), so I work out in the morning (8 or 9 AM) and start eating at 1 or 1:30 PM.
I wouldn't do intense activity like running or jumping rope right after eating, but I like to walk or after eating when I can. It's really good for keep your blood sugar levels stable!
I have to exercise before I eat. I get sick - literally sick - if I try to exercise after I eat. Even taking a slow stroll around my hood is a no-no after I eat.
I can exercise either before or after I eat. I don't have a set time for exercising so I usually do it when I can whether it be before lunch or after dinner. I personally like to workout after eating because it helps me get things moving.
I need to eat before I exercise, otherwise my blood sugar levels get too low. So, I'll dinner before my spinning class, for example.

I think everyone reactants differently with food in their stomach before they exercise. In general if it was a big meal, I would wait.
Some folks like me need something in their belly before they go do any sorts of activity especially when you want to put any effort into it. Usually I would eat some sort of protein bar, banana, something dry before I exercise, otherwise, I eat my meals only after I exercise. |
I try to work out immediately upon coming home from work, and then eat...but hey, life gets in the way sometimes. I don't mind resistance training after I eat, but I do not like to do yoga or cardio right after eating and will try to wait at least an hour.
