I think I need some new clothes...

We have gone from summer weather to cold weather literally overnight. It was 70 degrees yesterday and right now it is 56 and windy. I have to run out tonight, and guess what? I have NO PANTS. Literally no pants that fit. I have my professional dresses and suits that I wear for work and I have shorts. And that's it. I am going to look like a dork, either way.

gagalu 09-15-2011 05:16 PM

oh man, i know what you mean. it was 93 here yesterday, 60 and FREEZING today because of the wind chill. luckily, i had some old jackets that i was surprised to find that i finally fit back into!

haha, but at least you get to go shopping!

runningfromfat 09-15-2011 05:29 PM

I have the opposite problem here! Spring is quickly approaching and I don't have any summer clothes at all (well, I basically have no clothes besides 3 pairs of pants and 2 dresses in my size, no tops whatsoever!).

berryblondeboys 09-15-2011 05:29 PM

That is why I have been shopping like crazy the last few weeks. Trying to find a deal in a maybe temporary size. 90% of my winter clothes are size 18/20. Now I wear a 12. My fall jacket was a 24!!! Now I have clothes that fit and we'll see if I got down another size or not.

Michelle2008 09-15-2011 05:29 PM

I am just back from buying a new outfit to wear to work tomorrow!! Last winter I was 30lbs heavier and now nothing fits!!

This weight loss game is expensive!

sontaikle 09-15-2011 06:21 PM

Well congrats on needing new clothes!

I literally have nothing to wear for work. I went shopping today and bought pants in a size 5/6! I must have looked ridiculous wearing a size 12!

ChickieChicks 09-15-2011 08:42 PM

YEA! Go get some pants!

Doesn't it feel GOOD? I almost hated shopping at first, but now I can't stop! ENJOY!

April Snow 09-15-2011 08:50 PM

congrats and have fun shopping!! (but not buy too much of course! lol!)

I'm at the point where every time I see my mother, she says "you can't wear that any more, it's too big." I've got stuff in smaller sizes but a lot of it still doesn't fit quite right yet. I'm losing weight in different places on my body this time around so even things that are the right general size don't fit well.

mzKiki 09-15-2011 08:52 PM

What a glorious problem!!! Have fun shopping.

steinanwine 09-15-2011 11:07 PM

I cant waitttttt to start shopping for some smaller sizes!!! I'm hoping that happens with pants soon. The current size 14's im wearing are getting pretty lose but not falling off yet ... In time!!

Enjoy your shopping and new body!!

lin43 09-16-2011 07:37 AM

I have been having a hard time finding something to wear for the last days of warm weather. I've gone down a couple of sizes since June. But boy do I love having this problem! :)

I can't wait to get my fall clothes from the attic. I have lots of clothes that I stopped fitting into a while ago, but that I kept in the hopes that they would fit me one day. Well, now it's "one day"!

Enjoy shopping!

I put on my favorite fall outfit yesterday.
:yikes:

It was so baggy and saggy I had to put it into my clown clothes bag.
:joker:

It is going to be donated this morning to the Salvation Army. I am sure I will have to put more outfits in the bag also.
The 20+ pounds I lost this past year has put me into a smaller size.
Isn't it great to have baggy clothes?

I just started wearing a size 12 and I'll probably be at this size always or at least for awhile. I can fit in a few brand's size 10. I got everything for fall a bit snug and with a bit of stretch in the pants so that they will last a bit longer with weight changes.

When I was in 18s, 16s, and 14s I knew all those sizes were for sure temporary. Now I know I'll spend at least a few months in this size, so I bought a few more things than in previous sizes - got them all still on big sales/clearance racks, but nicer stuff to make me feel good too.

Beach Patrol 09-16-2011 11:36 AM

I'm experiencing this too. I've put my "fat clothes" (size 14's & XL's mostly) into a "gonna have a garage sale" box. ;) I don't want them in storage! Don't want to even CONSIDER that I might gain weight back again. Nope, not this time!!

I've been digging in my storage room going thru old clothes to have a "new/more fitting" wardrobe. Some stuff is fitting me quite well...size 12's, a couple of 10's! - and some large AND medium tops!!! - others stuff, nah, not so much fitting at all, making me think "WTF did I ever even BUY that????" :?:

But if I lose another size (another 10 lb maybe??-fingers crossed!!!!) then I will have a BUNCH of good fitting clothes. Including pants. Gotta love pants that fit. Makes me feel.... all normal & stuff. :D

I had this rant this morning!!!! I got dressed and looked like a deflated clown! Nothing fits. I'm an 18W (almost 16) now. All of my heavier clothes are 24W and 3x sized.

While this is a great problem to have, it is very expensive. I don't know if I should buy for now or later. Any suggestions from those much further in?

Did you buy an interim size? Should I buy a size down so that I don't have to do this all over again in the winter? Should I get everything tailored now to fit me (especially business suits). Again, I hate the expense but I truly have very little that fits well.

This is even more depressing to me because clean lines/fits look best on me at my size. The clown look is just not sexy!

Many people here hit up thrift stores/clearance racks for the in between sizes. I normally buy the bare necessities in each size and closet shop as much as possible. Belts are also my best friend. ;)

I probably wouldn't bother tailoring the suits because you'll have to do it many times again. However, why not try to sell your old ones and use that money to buy new stuff? ;)

FitGirlyGirl 09-16-2011 03:29 PM

I buy as little as possible. I buy clothes at thrift stores, goodwill, and clearance sales. I also buy ahead for some things if I find a really good deal. I already have tons of size 8 jeans that I have gathered up, so now that I am finally getting into size 8 I don't really have much shopping to do. Some things the buying ahead doesn't work because you have no idea what sizes you will actually need (like bras) and you don't want to buy anything too trendy, but with things like jeans and t-shirts it can save you a lot of money. I am currently gathering size 6 shorts and capris for next summer at clearance sales.

Those of you who are donating your too big clothing to places like goodwill and salvation army, don't forget to get a tax receipt. I got an extra $300 back on my taxes just from clothing donations last year.

CherryPie, where in NY are you? Got cold quick, didn't it! We have a freeze warning tonight.

I went through this a few weeks ago. I hit up the Salvation Army and the Good Will, and had surprisingly good luck. I still had a few pairs of jeans from the last time I was this size, but only one pair of work-y pants that fit. It takes time and effort, and you need to be picky, but I found 3 pairs of pants and 3 skirts. I also bought one new pair of pants on sale and feel like I'm pretty well set up to make it through a couple months, until I once again decide I have nothing to wear.

BeachBreeze2010 09-16-2011 04:32 PM

I am going through the same thing! Because I am so pear shaped, it's my pants size that are changing so quickly. I've been in a medium top for a while and that seems to be holding steady. Not so on the bottoms. I am in a 12 or 14 depending on the brand now. I still have a few pairs of 16s and even an 18 that I find myself wearing to work. Way too big!

I've been a bit vain about jeans, though. When I hang out with my new bf (YES I said that!! I am no longer Miss Whiny Pants!), I want that to look good! I only have 2 pairs that fit me, but I buy a new pair everytime I go down a size rather than waiting 2 sizes at a time for the work clothes.

I ran into a good sale at NY&Co about a month ago (buy one pair of pants, get another for $10) and bought a pair of jeans and 2 work pants in my current size and then in the size down with the $10 deal. The cool thing is that the smaller sized pants all fit now!

But, this is getting expensive. I've been going to some thrift stores as well to find things. Mostly, though, the hard part is that I can fit into all kinds of things now in so many stores and I have SUCH a renewed sense of fashion and shopping. I can't help myself! I went to a concert and needed something to wear that was "cool and hip" and not frumpy. I found a Roxy hoodie and beat up jeans at Marshalls - in the junior section!! Heck Yeah!

Yes, I could find things cheaper but I am just loving life in this smaller body and it's killing my budget because I want to wear all of those fashions I missed out on for so long!

I could have written this - as I sit here, right now in a Roxy hoodie sweater in a size medium Juniors I picked up at Marshall's yesterday.

I was always so heavy and designers have come a long way in fitting the fuller figure better than they did when I last weighed this much. So, there IS more fashion for me to enjoy!

I LOVE that I can find clothes in junior sizes that fit.

FitGirlyGirl 09-16-2011 05:33 PM

And that I can fit into the brand that bears my name, lol! I have several Roxy t-shirts, but not a hoodie yet, must get!

April Snow 09-16-2011 05:35 PM

I love that they make more junior sizes now - even though I still have a long way to go, I am a junior shape in pants and it's nice to be able to buy a size 17 that actually fits and isn't too baggy through the hips, butt and legs.

this thread is motivating me to try to do some closet shopping/purging this weekend. I know I have a lot of stuff that should fit me now, but it's all a big scrambled mess, plus it's time to clear out the old stuff! When I lost over 40 lbs last year, I made the colossal mistake of keeping all my fat clothes right at the front of my closet and it was oh so easy to let all that weight come back on. NOT THIS TIME!
