Ok, this is just sort of a rant, or something I just don't understand. At my heaviest, (250lbs) I used to dread going into public bathrooms because of the way the doors were set up in each stall. Example: Movie Theatres, they have 10 stalls, and all (except the handicap stall) open inwards towards you. At my heaviest, I could barely fit in those stalls, and I had to practically sit back on the toilet to get the door to open towards me in order to make my way out.
Am I the only person who finds this frustrating or has expierenced this?
Fast forward to my current weight (about 112) I STILL HAVE THE SAME BATHROOM STALL DOOR ISSUE! It kind of makes me go back into that insecurity mode where I get anxiety b/c I'm afraid I won't fit coming back out.
I clearly remembered the other day how exciting it would be to use the potties effortlessly without any hesitation or concern for the structural engineering of these mechanisms, but I WAS WRONG. I'm writing it off as poor construction. Nuff said. :P
Nothing like trying to cram yourself AND 2 kids in a stall. "Alex go in and stand next to the toilet NO DONT TOUCH IT JUST STAND THERE, Samantha go in and stand on the other side, in. IN. IN!!!!!!!!! Yes I KNOW you have to go but just get out of my way for a freaking minute. GET FARTHER IN THE STALL SO I CAN GET IN AND LEAN OVER THE TOILET SO I CAN SHUT THE DOOR.

It is not just you!! If you open the stall doors inward look at how close it comes to the toilet and it's usually within a few inches .... NO HUMAN BODY can fit between that! You have a lost a tremendous amount of weight and are inspiration to us all!! Do not let public restrooms get you down for a second!!!

I've never understood why they build them like that. I have the same issues, and like you have attributed it mostly to my weight, but I'm close to "normal" now, and I still have just as bad of issues. I usually straddle the toilet until I get the door open. I hadn't thought about it not being about my weight, though, so thanks!
I always notice after a drink or two that the toilet is always off center too lol
last summer we were traveling and stopped at this new government built tourism site. There was this beautiful brand new bathroom with taps that were motion operated and toilets that flushed automatically when you stand up and those hand dryers you stick your hand in and they dry them off like the car wash dries your car.
not one of the 15 + stalls had a lock mechanism that actually met up with the door side of the lock
I'm so happy I'm not the only one with this problem lol. When my daughter and I go to our favorite campground the stalls are even smaller than the usually small public restrooms. The last trip I was so thankful to be near a handicap bathroom.
