Studies actually have shown that more attractive (e.g. thinner) people are more likely to get hired for jobs, promoted, etc. So it's not completely unrealistic to think more career opportunities may present themselves if you lose weight.
That said, being thinner definitely improves some things in my life. My sex life with my Hubby, for example. But, like other posters, I feel these improvements are probably a direct result of my increased confidence.
I am not a "hottie" by any stretch, but I have noticed more men looking at me in places like the supermarket. I am pretty sure this is simply because I am carrying myself with more confidence and I'm wearing closer-fitting clothing (instead of scurrying through the aisles in oversized t-shirts) rather than the fact that I'm skinnier.
