Mr. TOM

TOM is the ! I haven't had him visit for over two years. Pregnancy then IUD kept him away. I decided to have my IUD removed after 16 months of killing myself to lose weight. I lost about 6lbs total in that time!

So can TOM have anything to do with not losing wieght? I started my 1st a few days ago and my weight loss has really slowed down since then. :?:

This may or may not be two separate issues.

1) Weight loss rarely remains the same throughout the whole journey. Often we start out strong and weight loss slows. It's just normal. Some people get several weeks of big losses, some people get a couple days. It's individual.

2) There are a TON of threads about TOM and how it affects the human body. In short, yes. It can often cause water weight gain and bloating. It's not uncommon for women to stall or gain a little during TOM and then lose that weight afterwards.

In addition to that, remember that it could take a while for your hormones to readjust after having the Mirena taken out. Mirena is a method where once it's out of your system, it really is out, as opposed to something like Depo Provera where the drug stays in your system for a while, but it's still normal to have a transition period.

I will also add to beware of cravings just before, during, and right after TOM. While it's true that bloating can definitely increase your weight, even if your intake and exercise levels remain the same, cravings are also a factor. Sometimes, mine get so bad that if I don't watch out, I end up taking in extra food without even realizing it! So just watch TOM - it's a trickster. =P

I had that same question last week. I have recently gone off of the Depo shot because of the side effects of it. Last week started the first TOM that I have had since going off the shot 4 months ago. And the scale was not my friend. I do believe that water weight has a lot to do with it. Though I am still stuck in that TOM I have seen the scale dip slightly the last few days. Slightly. LOL
