I have a pretty cheap one that is accurate. I also have a nice digital one but it is packed in storage. That sucks, but I will work through the storage boxes to get rid of stuff. I'll find it then.

I have a digital Tanita scale also...also measures BF, BMI, etc but i rarely use it...I paid $60 for it at Walmart! And I love it! Its a great brand and had good reviews!

I bought this scale because it takes up very little storage space and is from a reliable brand. It's working out for me nicely.
Meanwhile, a screenshot of my weight log for the past two months may give you some idea of how daily weighing works out. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/2...htlog22711.jpg As you can see, the general movement is definitely downwards. I'm losing at what is usually labelled 1lb/week (I know I'm having a whoosh right now, but I have no idea why it suddenly decided I was losing 1.29lb/week today), I don't have difficulty staying on my eating plan, and I reckon this is probably fairly mild weight variation, as such things go. If I was weighing every week, there are times when it could look as it if were going up, and I'd be uncertain whether it was just a blip for the next week or so. With daily weighing, I can look at the overall patterns. When my weight stalls a bit for a week or so, I can look at the previous times it's done that and how it always dropped again afterwards. That's what works for me. Weighing is a very personal thing, and some people feel much happier weighing daily while others finds it drives them to distraction and is counter-productive. There is no reason why you can't change your weighing pattern once you start. Just see what works for you individually. The main thing at all times is to look at the overall pattern and not to get too caught up in minor fluctuations. A lot of liquid and solids go in and out of the body every day, I've heard 14lb, so with all that natural fluctuation due to eating, drinking, excreting and breathing, a bit of fluctuation on the scales is perfectly normal. |
Awesome! I didn't think of the spreadsheet idea. I love analytics = )
Thanks for everything. I'm definitely taking the plunge today to get a scale. Woo! Here goes nothing = \ |
Welp... got the scale and it's worse than I thought. Which I figured... oh well.
195.8 = ( My highest weight ever. It's probably more like 194 since i'm retaining water & it's no longer the morning. Anyway, ended up with a taylor scale. It seems to be pretty nice. We'll see how the losses go = \ |
I didn't weigh myself for the first month, and later estimated my starting weight based on losing at a rate of 1lb/week. This gave me a weight 7lb (half a stone) higher than I'd thoguht. Since I seem to be losing a smidgen faster than that, and since the beginning is meant to be faster anyway due to water loss, I have a horrible feeling that my starting weight was even higher than that, but hey, there's no way of knowing. The important thing is that I'm losing!
Well done on getting your new scale, and don't worry, I reckon most of us have exactly the same shock that you and I did. I'm sure your weight loss journey will be great nevertheless! |
I'm hoping. I'm three days in with no cheating whatsoever. Usually, after the first day or two I've already broken down and eaten something.
I think I've finally just become too disgusted with myself. This is my highest ever weight (as far as I know, although I think I've dropped 10lbs or so since I had my leg cast removed, just from being able to walk again). Motivation I guess. Hehe. Here's to a good rest of day 3, and a good start to day 4. |
