Default TOM Question...

So, I had a bit of a worry going, hadn't had that time of the month for since starting my new diet lifestyle. And finally started today! And I lost nearly two pounds in the last week, so take that you water weight evil.

But I was wondering, could that be why I was stuck at a weight for a few days? Does the water weight come before, during (or both), when your on your period?

I posted a similar thread a few weeks back, and the general response was that everybody was different, I usually get water retention during my period only, it disappears when its all over. But since my diet started its extended to 2 days before and 2 days after. Water weight can occur before, during or after. Or in my case all 3!! so that is probably the reason you got stuck for a few days.

Everyone is different. Many people retain water during TOM. I don't, but I retain water for about 1 1/2 weeks around and during ovulation.

I can gain up to 7lbs about a week before...sometimes it takes about 2 weeks for it to come off. But then again I retain water alot during the month. I do not cheat on my diet, so I know any gain must be water...

I wonder sometimes what the correlation is between tom hormones and fat loss/gain.

I don't care what I do, I NEVER lose weight during tom. The day I start the scale goes up with water retention, and it doesn't go away until the day after it's over. Never another pound down, always back to exactly what it was before. If I'm still creating a calorie deficit that week, technically I think I should be able to see a loss? If I don't watch it, it has also always seemed alot easier to actually gain during that week and spend the rest of the month catching up

For a long time I just chalked it up to hormonal cravings and that I was probably just eating way more than I realized (especially since I have PCOS so my hormones are wacked out anyway), but I have tracked every morsel since February and know with certainty that calories in vs calories out isn't the whole story. Yet another reason to call it "the curse" lol.
