Jogging!

I just jogged! I've been walking for awhile and today I started a program that will get me jogging. This week I'll walk 4 minutes and jog 2, for a total of 5 cycles. I think next week is 3 walk and 3 jog. Each week I'll add more jogging and less walking. The great thing is, I CAN JOG FOR 2 MINUTES! This may not seem like a big deal to many people, but I feel wonderful. I haven't jogged in years. My biggest problem is my breathing. My body feels fine after 2 minutes but my breathing is very difficult. Hopefully it will get better.

Congrats! I wish I could jog...I've always had breathing difficulties when I tried, so I just..didn't lol. Running the mile in HS was ****.

Anyway, congrats! You're doing great :D

I agree, running the mile in high school sucked.

I can run a mile now, but back then I couldn't. Funny how that works b/c I was thin in high school.

Thanks yhahmd! I wonder if there are any exercises to improve breathing or if it will naturally get better over time.

nomorenachos 04-08-2011 12:33 PM

saggzz, how long did it take for you to be able to jog a mile?

I was always told it would just get better over time. It was bad, though. I sounded like I was having an asthma attack, and I don't even have asthma. It was weird, hollow, whistely sound. Not so attractive when running next to the boys lol.

That's about where I'm at. I'm worried one of my neighbors will call an ambulance because I probably look like I'm going to pass out. :D

Yay! I love jogging. I can't do it anymore, but I'm hoping one day I can again when I get closer to my goal weight. My problem isn't my breathing but my joints. They just can't take the pounding.

I'm not really too sure what you mean by difficulty breathing while jogging.

Does this happen during any form of exercise as in you're just completely out of shape? If so then yes - it will get better quickly as your body adapts to the training stimulus.

If it is something else I would go talk to a doctor.

I've always been "out of shape" even when I was 130. I could never jog! good for you1!!

I don't have any medical problems other than being completely out of shape.:dizzy: I can walk without problems but I have no endurance for jogging because I haven't done it in years.

Great job! It does get easier with time. My first time on a treadmill I couldn't last 5 minutes! Now I can easily run half an hour and I'm starting to hit the 5.0 mark and running for 30 seconds to a minute at a time! It's awesome :)

stasiagurl91 04-08-2011 03:30 PM

I love doing intervals. I believe it builds up your stamina. Congratulations on starting to jog. I guess your breathing is due to you not used to jogging, but as time goes by you will be able to do more and more.

Ookpik 04-08-2011 06:55 PM

Good for you! As the others say, as you get used to it, you will be able to jog more in time. I did C25K, and when I began, I used to think, "how long is a minute, anyway?" because that minute jogging would just about kill me! Now I can jog for about an hour without stopping.

nomorenachos 04-08-2011 07:05 PM

Thanks everyone for all the info and encouragement. Even though I'm really out of shape, I love the feeling that jogging gives me. It feels like I'm really doing something great. I can't wait until tomorrow to do it again.

Ookpik: I can't wait until I can jog for an hour!
