WHAT is going on in there?!

So I came home from work and prepared my dinner... it came out to roughly 400 calories. I ate at 5:30.

7PM comes and my stomach starts to grumble. So I wait it out. It's no big deal. I figure I'd wait until I am positive I am hungry.

7:45 came and it was like, ok... apparently 400 calories was not my body's idea of a good dinner. I'll have a snack. I go into the kitchen, make half of a whole wheat bagel with some cream cheese, and snacked on a few pieces of turkey breast. It came out to roughly 200 calories.

It is 8:45 and I am starting to get hungry again. Now, usually I'm of the mindset that if I am truly hungry, then eat.

I am positive this is not emotional hunger. I'm not bored, sad, angry or mad, I'm not stressed or what have you. This is, stomach growling like I never fed it, starting to feel irritable, bonefide hunger.

What did I do? I usually, probably... most definitely eat more than 400 calories for dinner. In fact, it's probably at the 600 range. So today I was trying to tweak and pay attention to the calories I eat for dinner..... apparently my body is not happy with that. (I tend to eat a good sized dinner because I hate waking up with that I'm so hungry I'm nauseous feeling. I prefer to keep it to a I'm hungry feeling  )

So what am I supposed to do? Eat again? I thought that a half of a whole wheat bagel and the protein would get me through the night. NOT an HOUR!

What was for dinner? Was it high in fat or protein? And that bagel with cream cheese and ham is a lot of carbs with some fat and a wee bit of protein. if you are still hungry, (and I believe you can be). Try eating a hard boiled egg or an apple, or a cheese stick.

I had this the other day. I was just HUNGRY in the evening which I NEVER am...so, I ate more (about 350 calories more - cheese, apple, peanut butter). and next day I had a huge WHOOSH in weight.

But I agree, I wish I could understand more - like some monitor that spat out a little ticker that said what was up with the insides, but... alas, we are left in the dark.

Oy. I hear ya. :dizzy: Sometimes I have those hungry days too. What helps me is eating a bigger breakfast and lunch rather than allotting all the calories for dinner, but people are all different.

When it's hormone hunger or hunger from doing extra running (seems to be consistently those two things), I go with it and eat. There are enough days when I'm full that a couple where I go over calories is ok.

Now when I'm out eating and there's something good on the menu...whole different story.

I used to think I was hungry all the time... It turned out to be heartburn!!! They feel almost identical! To me anyhow

High protein or high nutrient content. Egg, tbs of peanut butter, 1 oz of cheese, nuts all of these have a bit of protein and fat to keep you feeling full. A bagel and cream cheese would only leave me personally hungry, since it's just carbs and a little fat (albeit delicious!). Even a banana- though it's a lot of carbs as well- may do the trick, as it's chock full of nutrients. That should be enough to get you through the night next time :)

Well, the bagel had 10g of protein, and the cream cheese had 6g of fat (I personally find some fat will really tide me over.) And well, I'm positive the turkey breast had protein, but I wasn't looking at that, I was looking at the calories.

Anyway, Dinner was one of those cafe steamers by either lean cusine or healthy choice.. don't remember, but it was pineapple chicken with brown rice and I made an extra veggie side of cauliflower. It's easy when I don't have the time or energy to make a proper dinner (especially when i have a little one who is really hungry once she gets home from school... she gets fed first!)

I thought maybe I was mistaken thirst for hunger. So I just downed probably 15 oz of water. My stomach has calmed down some, but it's still saying "Um... little Hungry here!" Just not at loud. I go to bed soon so I might wait it out. If not, I'll have a cheese stick :D But I would really like a whoosh! I'm coming up to the end of TOM, and well... I usually have a whoosh after retaining water and um, *ahem* bowel functions for a few days.

Thanks guys!

What kind of bagel has 10g of protein in a half? Even in a whole bagel I'm not sure I've ever seen 10g!

Either way, if your truly hungry eat. It's really not going to make a big difference in the grand scheme of your journey if you go over one day. Otherwise you can white knuckle it, distract yourself or go to bed. I'd just go to bed.

Most frozen meals don't do it for me, the Kashi ones usually will but all the other ones are so over processed and loaded with sugar that t leyave me hungry. My dinner is always 400 cals and with the right carb protien combo it usually leaves me satisfied.
