Going to have Mexican tomorrow. What should I eat??

  • I am going to a Mexican restaurant tomorrow and I don't know what is good to eat. Of course there is no where to find out the calories for this restaurant, I wish there was! I was thinking that fajitas would be the best because I can visualize everything that I eat instead of something that is already put together. I am going to allow myself some chips and salsa because I LOVE THEM!!! I just have to k now when to say when. Any advice would be great!
  • I think fajitas would be a good choice, just watch the tortillas, cheese and sour cream. Another good option would be a salad or tostada, but again, watch the cheese, tortillas strips, and sour cream. Have a great time!
  • Fajitas are ok, if you're going to eat some chips, skip the tortilla with the fajitas.

Portion the chips. They are my weakness, I could eat them till the cows come home, milk themselves and take a nap.
  • Depending on the restaurant, a taco salad might offer a decent selection of veggies, and you could ask for no cheese/sour cream.
  • I agree with the fajitas. You have your protein and good veggies. I never use all the tortillas they give me and I hold back on the sour cream and cheese. i
  • Thanks for all the advice! I am going to skip the tortillas so that i can have chips!
  • Mexican nights at the local bars here are pretty popular, same issue - no way to get cal info!! I build a salad with all the veggies I can and top it with fajita chicken and salsa instead of dressing. I get my salsa fix too. You are a stronger woman than I if you can control those chips!
  • I always get plain grilled chicken breast and a side order of guacomole.
  • Go for soft tortillas rather than going for crunchy shells like tacos...

Crunchy shells are fried while soft tortillas are baked.

I would go for the fajitas simply because it is served in a soft tortilla and the chicken is grilled which is great.

If you're going to eat beans, go for black beans, they're low in fat, high in protein and provide plenty of fiber.

Forget deep fried foods such as Nachos, chimichangas, chalupas, taquitos, chile relleno, etc... and go for something like Chicken fajitas, bean burritos, or a grilled chicken dish...

    Hope this helps!
