How often do u weigh yourself?

I tend to weigh myself daily and I hate it but I am sdrawn to the scale everytime that I get up. It would be nice if I could use it as a learning tool but I get distraught alot. I told myself that I am only going to weigh weekly now. What about you guys??

I usually weigh daily, but I actually have taken a break from weighing myself for the month of January. I had to take the scale out of my bathroom so it wouldn't be tempting.

When I first started, I weighed monthly. That's how determined I was to separate the BEHAVIORS I knew would make me lose weight from the MIND GAMES of the scale! It was really effective for me for a while, I learned to FEEL rolls and such shrinking on me before I confirmed the losses on the scale. And I learned that regardless of when I weighed, how often, good news or bad from the scale, whatever, THIS is what I DO now, and the scale can just be there to confirm from time to time that I am on the right track.

I have recently started weighing weekly, because I want to be sure things get tweaked in a timely manner if necessary to keep the losses going. As I get down, I may switch to daily just to keep a really close track and learn about the daily fluctuations. But right now, it is still WAY too distracting for me. Weighing too frequently makes me go into this mode -- OMG, NO LOSS, MUST STARVE TODAY, MUST WORK OUT MORE, MUST DO SOMETHING TO GET THIS THING MOVING. Those thoughts are very counterproductive for me at the moment. I think it's trial and error to find out what works for YOU.

I love weighing everyday. I don't get distraught. I think of it as getting to know my body and what is going on. I have been at this for a year and actually now I can usually say how much I am going to weigh before I get on the scale. Weighing everyday keep me accountable and I make adjustments to what I eat accordingly.

I am so addicted to that scale that it is scary. I think I would go through withdrawal if someone hid it from me.

I know it is probably unhealthy to weigh my self a few times per day :( If I weigh myself at night, and scale is showing a favorable number, It keeps me from eating...

If it's out and I wander into the bathroom, I weigh. If I put it away, I forget about it for days and weeks at a time.

I weigh every morning as soon as I get up. I used to weigh weekly, but that was very difficult for me because I would then think that I had 4 days to eat badly and then 3 days to eat right and work the extra calories off from the previous days. Not good. Weighing daily keeps me on track. And if it goes up and down a little throughout the week, I am ok with that...it is usually just water weight.

I weigh myself daily and I try not to get emotional about it.... I've learned when my weight goes up and when it goes down and how it's affected by food.

It also keeps me accountable.... one thing is to be bloated after a high sodium meal, another is to have 5 days straight with a 1 lb increase for no discernible reason.

I weigh daily - in the morning before getting into the shower and at night, before bed. It really does help me to stay focused and motivated.

The scale has way too much power over me and my emotions, so I have decided I will only weigh myself on the last day of the month. It is much too easy for me to get caught up on the daily (or twice daily) number the scale gives me which sets the tone for my day, and as we all know, weight is variable and fluctuates by a lb or two on any given day. So, I figure the monthly weigh in will give me a much better snapshot of progress and keep me from getting into some pretty unhealthy mind games. Next weigh in for me will be Feb 28 (I just started on my program last week, so I am not going to bother with the Jan 31 weigh in). It is going to take a lot of discipline for me to avoid the scale, as I have developed such a love/hate relationship with it....

Emmy1979 01-25-2011 11:04 AM

Every single day - twice. I weigh in the morning when I wake up, and again immediately before I go to bed. Sometimes I get distraught over the numbers fluctuating, but it's also a huge learning tool for me and how my body works and reacts to certain things. I weigh at night to give me some idea of what my number will look like the next morning.

I think to each his or her own. If you know it will be a hindrance for you to weigh every day, then just do it once a week or once a month.

I may weigh every day, but I am also less focused on only looking at what the scale says. I am paying the most attention this time to how I feel, how my clothes fit, etc. Take today - I weighed in one pound more than yesterday this morning, but it didn't bother me, because I feel great, my mood is upbeat, I have energy, I'm actually exercising a little now - so I'm less upset by these days where the scale is mean to me. :-)

Good luck!

I weigh daily, in the morning before I eat anything and at night, before bed. It really helps me to stay focused and motivated.

daily to weekly

I used to weigh myself monthly and thats how I gained weight and didnt even realize it. Then I went on a diet (lifestyle change) and weighed myself daily..but I hated doing it daily and beating myself up when I didnt see a decrease, so now I am weighing myself weekly, because I find I lose more weight when I am not stressing about the scale from day to day! :carrot:

Lots of morning and evening weighers! That's me, too. The fluctuations don't bother me, and it keeps me on track.

gagalu 01-25-2011 01:48 PM

i weigh once a day in order to better recognize my body's fluctuations.
