Scale Question!

I lost 5lbs in 2 weeks which is quite a bit for me. I have been working out much harder than I was last year (doing HIIT along with weights and stretches).

My question is. If you think you might be standing in a slightly different position on the scale, and you have a loss, should you count it?

I did my measurements and I loss half an inch on my stomach, so it seems to me I did lose.

I placed it on my ticker anyway but I'm wondering if I should bother?

I went back and weighed another 2 times, I got 198 then 197 and I was 196 yesterday.

Arg!

I don't know how you usually track, but for me, I track whatever weight my scale says on Monday mornings. Even if I know (or suspect) that there's a reason there's a wonky reading, that's the weight I track and update my ticker with.

In my head, I'm looking at the trend over time (hopefully downward!) so I don't worry too much about one reading if I think it's affected by TOM or sodium or whatever.

The only exception to this is when I got a reading once that was 10 pounds lower than the day before. That's when I replaced the battery. :)

I know exactly what you are saying...do you have an electronic scale? Those can sometimes be misleading depending on how you are standing. My rule of thumb is weigh yourself ONCE, take it, accept and it will all work itself out. When I came back last night, I was desperately searching for older posts so that I could calm the inner negativity telling me that I am not making progress this time around. I was so happy to find a post where I mentioned how I logged my weights into fridgegraph everyday and sure enough, when I went back to look at those entries, my weight was absolutely all over the place, i.e 145.6, 143.8, 144.2, 143, 144.6, it just went up and and down, but in a definite "trend" of loss. And it is doing the same thing this time. I seem to be more impatient this time around though for some reason!

Also, I notice when my battery is dying, it gives me different weights so if yours is by chance electronic you may want to look into changing the battery.

Niecy's advice is probably best, just take what it says and go with it; whether it's right or wrong, it won't change what your body actually is, so what does it really matter. Myself, I weigh myself everyday, but only record it once a week; those days, I weigh three times in a row, and I take whatever number I get twice. If I don't get the same number twice, I take the middle number. But that's just me.
