I drink it black, but sweet.

Artificially sweet, through various additives. ("Sweet but fake," as I tell the barista.) Sugarfree Torani flavors; Truvia; some other Stevia brand that failed to make it at our local grocery store, so I bought up a lot of boxes at half price & right off, I don't remember the name; or Splenda; or Equal.

I can also drink it straight up black without a problem, if no sweeteners are available.

I really don't like milk or creamer in it. At all. Don't like how it coats my tongue & gives me "coffee breath."

Starbucks isn't selling coffee, it's selling drinkable desserts with coffee flavoring in them.

As a former barista, easiest tip I can give coffee lovers? Half-sweet. Get something half-sweet, I promise it's still delicious. A venti peppermint mocha has 10 pumps of syrup in it. Crazy! Try that. And once you get used to it, try taking even more out!

I drink coffee daily. I honestly still use the flavored creamers, I try to go with the fat free french vanilla, but I still use any kind that sounds good, I just don't use a lot and I only have one cup a day.

As for going out. I love iced coffees, but that's easy because in the summer I just get those only with skim milk so that's not too bad. In the winter I will try and just get a regular coffee with skim milk, but if I want a flavored coffee I get it made with skim milk, no whip and usually only get a small. But I don't put them off limits, I just drink them very rarely and try to cut back wherever I can.

I do believe this to be true as well. Having worked in an Italian-style coffee shop for years, I got accustomed to European-style milk coffees - espresso with different styles of milk. I really can't call a peppermint mocha with whipped cream, 10 pumps of syrup and a tablespoon of sugar chocolate "coffee". Yes, it has a shot of espresso, but that's really just a cake liquified into a drink.

Learning to love a true latte or black coffee has made a world of difference for me :)

I like to drink my coffee with a packet of stevia and that's good for me. Sometimes I'll add in some almond milk, which has a lot fewer calories than regular milk or cream. You can also mix in spices with the coffee grounds to add in some flavour. I like to use cinnamon and nutmeg. :) Torani sugar free syrups are also great. I don't like the taste of Splenda either, but they're not bad at all.

BIG Coffee Lover Here!

1.5 years into my journey and I'm still working on controlling my LUV for coffee, lol. I laugh cause I amuse myself how much enjoy it. I amuse myself that I cut it out of my diet completely and drank only green tea for several months but it found it's way back into my life. I could easily consume a 350 calorie loaded large coffee from Dunkin Donuts! I call it my LIquid Crack because of the amount of sugar/creamer I put it in it.

However!
I rarely do that anymore and gradually have made chanes to reduce what I put into my coffee.
In order of how I reduced my coffee additives.
2tbsp of sugar, 2tsp creamer75 cals a cup
1tbsp of sugar, 2 tbsp of Fat free half and half-50 cals a cup
Now I'm down to 1tsp of sugar, 2 tbsp of ff half and half- 35 cals a cup

So today for instance I had 4 cups of coffee= 140 calories.

strong and black. i love my coffee! but i don't want milk and especially sweetener in it! i just like the bitter black stuff, by the mug full.

milmin2043 01-04-2011 11:41 PM

Has anyone tried the sugar-free versions of coffee creamer? I love the french vanilla and the hazelnut. They are only 15 cals per tbsp. so I can put twice as much in for 1/3 the calories as before.

I also love my coffee sweet and creamy. I have replaced sugar with stevia, or splenda.

Start putting less and less creamer in it each morning. It took me a while to start drinking it straight. But I work in a coffee shop some days until 2 AM and because it's on a college campus we stay busy until closed, so usually I don't have time to drink it any other way but straight :-/

I love coffee! I'd drink the sugary, creamy, calorie-loaded stuff all day if I could. But I also love black coffee, which is what I have 99% of the time.

I have started adding in lower calorie options. Sometimes just sweet 'n low, or sweetener with 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk and then ice it. Recently I've done cinnamon, cocoa, and a little sweetener.

I'm really getting into bitter flavors now (no idea why), so I actually love black coffee and cocoa together. Bitter-licious! Lol!

I love coffee. Luckily, I love it black. But if I want a treat, I'll often get an Americano (espresso and water) with a shot of sugar free syrup (Starbucks has quite a few, including the awesome sugar free cinnamon dulce...mmm...my other favorite is from another local shop, where they have both sugar free chocolate and sugar free raspberry...delicious raspberry mocha). I don't need milk, but a splash of milk on that isn't too bad calorie-wise if you don't use much.

For our coffee at home, most days I drink it black, but we have a ton of flavorings on hand at various times. Torani and Davinci make some great flavors. If I feel like I want a treat, I splash a bit into my coffee. Yum! Since they have no sugar or calories, I'm not adding on any damage, but I feel indulgent.

I love my coffee. I NEED my coffee. I take it with whole milk, no sugar.

I have not tried to substitute anything for the milk. I just include the calories for the whole milk in my day. I drink enough coffee per day to use up about a cup of milk, for 150 calories. And they aren't bad calories, they have some protein and some vitamins. So, I just count them and don't worry about it.

As you coffee addicts (at least those who take it light) know, there is something about the chemistry of milkfat that really changes the taste and texture of coffee. Non-fat milk simply doesn't do the same thing. That's why I decided I will hang on to my whole milk as long as I can.

When I get very close to goal, when my loss slows and I have run out of other ways to shave calories out of my day, I will consider switching to 2% milk, or learning to drink coffee black.

If I don't get my 2.5 mugs of plain, black coffee every morning, I feel cheated. Gots to have my computer and coffee time. Tea I drink with real sugar and canned milk. Love that canned milk flavor. Real cow-y or something. The evaporated skim milk tastes worse than regular skim milk. Ugh! I used to drink coffee with milk and sugar, but weaned myself off it. Now I prefer black to anything. I can barely get through the coffee aisle in the grocery for the heavy odors of the flavored coffee. Another ugh!

mandagrl1 01-05-2011 09:12 AM

I love all of these awesome suggestions! Whew, I thought there was no alternative to spenda! I've tried truvia and it's "eh" to me. I'm just so used to my super sweet milky coffee that it'll take time to get used to taking it any other way. I did fast refined sugar for 2 weeks once while we did a fast at church. Back then I didn't drink as much coffee, but I remember I was just taking it with half and half alone. I got used to it, but jumped back to my creamer w/o hesitation once the fast was over! I am gonna check my grocery store for some of the sugar free flavors. I also love the suggestion of flavored coffee! I feel like a dolt for not considering that before! lol Thank you ladies!

I aim for 1200-1600 calories a day (usually end up around 1400), and I often drink coffee with heavy cream . I just make sure I measure it accurately and include it in my daily log. I'd rather have more coffee and cream than a slice of toast. I just adjust what I'm eating to accommodate my coffee.

That said, I also drink coffee black, depending on the coffee. I get Gevalia coffee, so it's quite smooth and rich. At work I don't bother with cream, but I use it at home.
