Positive Self-Talk and Affirmations
An e-article on steps for a successful change in habit that affirmations and positive statements are very helpful.
I currently repeat this statement: I will lose weight and keep it off. I'm not sure this is the right focus of an affirmation. Do you have affirmations or positive self-talk? Would you care to share them? |
I sort of do, although for me it's not so much words as imagery.
For example, when I'm walking around my neighborhood, I'm also walking a runway in my mind; I am strutting, I am gorgeous, I am a goddess! (Never mind that I would only come up to an actual model's collarbones and still weigh over 200 pounds--I am fabulous.) My affirming self-talk is...well, this sounds weird, but it's kind of rude. "Yeah, baby, lookit dat ____ getting all firmed up!" "Ooh, that waist is getting so thin it really makes your ____ look great!" (I fill in blanks with whichever body part seems relevant at the time.) Apparently my inner self is a construction worker wolf-whistling at my outer self. :D |
Each morning, I congratulate myself one thing I did well on my journey the previous day. I can always think of a little something and it's generally something different every morning. This morning, it was, "Good job using mustard on your sandwich instead of mayo." Lol.

Today is a new day!
You are beautiful! You can do this! I am my own dog! These are some of mine. |

"I am strong. I am healthy. I am in control."
Repeat as necessary. |

I write things on my bathroom mirror. Yup. I keep a whiteboard marker in my toothbrush holder. Lame I know. But it helps.
Right now it says "It's not about changing who you ARE. It's about changing how you THINK". Changes all the time, but I was starting to feel a little lost, and that helps. |
