I'll throw another vote in for the food scale. I don't use mine so much anymore because I've gotten to the point where I can eyeball a proper portion with good accuracy, but mine was essential in the beginning. It really can help.

The control thing, yep, you'll just have to work on it. It takes time but you can do it!
