Default This Is Going To Be Trickier Than I Thought...

Tonight I made my holiday pies. It's been my job since I was old enough to cook and it's just what I do for the holidays. I made the pumpkin pies, no problem (and I REALLY love pumpkin). I made the chocolate pies with only a tiny taste to ensure that the thickening at the bottom of the pan was not, in fact, burning. No biggie. It was less than half a teaspoon.

Then I made the banana cream pie and I found myself licking the bowl. What?!? No self! We do not lick the bowl anymore! *sigh* I'm so frustrated with myself but I will log the couple of tablespoons that I ate before I dumped the bowl into the sink and filled it with hot soapy water and go on from here.

The good news is that I should have plenty of calories to cover this slight aberration but the bad news is that navigating Thanksgiving dinner is going to be much trickier than I thought. Ugh!!!

either make healthier versions of healthy desserts, or make new traditions hopefully, your family will understand. if not....put your foot down girl! that's too much temptation for anyone. i try to cook whatever it is, and GET OUT. get out of that kitchen!

great job btw minimizing the damage.

it sounds like you did very well! Focus on what you did right! You only had a few tastes and stopped. Now remember repeat the next time you're faced with something like this

You were accountable for your "tastes" and you stopped yourself from eating more. If you're anything like me, simply having the control to stop at a couple of spoons and to run water over the remainder is cause to be proud!

I can empathize with you; right now my house smells so freaking good from the stuff I've been cooking that I just want to eat and eat! Thank goodness for raw veggies and hummus to keep the "munch" reflex quiet; I'm glad I have so many healthful non-holiday-related options on hand.

I got a chuckle out of the way you put that: "No, self, we do not lick bowls any more!" Haha, I have an unruly self, too.

Thanks guys! Or ladies. LOL.

katy trail I definitely got myself out of the kitchen!! I have some "healthier" options for me but the family expects traditional desserts. I guess I could fuss at them but really it's not about them, it's about me.

pinkflower You're right. I did stop before I'd completely cleaned the bowl. That is a small victory and I'll take it! Next time I'll force my hands to put that bowl into the water immediately.

Nola Celeste LOL. Yes, my inner self is sometimes an unruly child who likes to eat frosting out of the can and run with scissors.

I've been struggling with munching while cooking as well. It happens, we just stop ourselves and move on
