I second if you can lose on 1,400, why go through the extra effort? I only stay around 1200 because I wasn't losing on more. It depends... I think you kinda can get a pretty good diet on 1000-1200. I see some diet plans that include alot of junk, like low cal jellos, bread, pretzels..where if they were cut out of the diet it would easily drop below 1200.
People tend to drop calories so low as a quick fix and then go back to their old eating habits, but I think if you continue calorie counting and slowly raise back to maintenance then you won't regain. When going that low you want to make sure you are eating a good amount of protein (it's supposed to be 1gram for each pound of lean body mass), vegetables and some healthy fats. Quote:
