I lose in spurts like that and it's pretty common when you get closer to goal. I think its related mostly to hormones and our cycles.

I don't know anything about metabolism but am hungrier when I'm about to lose weight or when I'm not eating the right kinds of foods.

I have no idea WHY but can tell you it happens! LOL! Yes, I tend to lose ONE week out of the month and stall the other three. It's ridiculous and towards the end (like NOW) I do get frustrated. But then I manage to get a whoosh. I always go into a new month thinking I'm not going to lose even one pound and yet I always lose 2-5 pounds somehow. It just happens all at once.

For me, I have to think it has to do with my exercise. I've kicked it up the past two weeks and every flipping time I do that, the scale does not cooperate. However, I lose inches! I tend to judge my inches lost by how well my pants fit and they haven't fit any better for a few months now. That's depressing. However, when I took measurements the other day, I discovered that in one month I've lost three inches around my bra band, an inch from my calves and 1/2 inch from my upper arms. Who knows where else it has come off? Not my waist, hips or rear! LOL! But the scale has actually gone up a few pounds.

So who knows? But that's my pattern. I live with it and most of the time I'm ok with it. It's just toward the end that the frustration kicks in.

To truly take a look at weight loss patterns I'd like to encourage you to check out the daily weighing thread in the 100 pound club. Right now it's titled "Don't Let the Scale Spook You..." It posts charts of all our daily weights which shows awesome patterns.

Someone posted an article recently (and I'm sorry I don't remember who or where) with the theory that expanded fat cells could possibly be replacing fat with water as you lose, then at some point the water is "shed" from the cells causing the woosh. I think it's an unproven theory, but but it makes sense to me (having no medical training whatsoever).
