Exclamation Time for me to only care about me. Right??

So its my roommates birthday tonight and a bunch of her friends and are were suppose to go downtown to bars and clubs. well i backed out. I told her i wasnt feeling good.fruity alcohol drinks and me dont go good together. I could drink like 10 a night. Since i just started my journey 2 weeks ago i dont want to drink. I probably wont ever again. I know its her bday and its only once a year, but i couldnt. am i wrong to be selfish?? I feel like its my time to shine and take care of myself.

Learning not to eat to make other people happy or comfortable is an important part of this. You may get to the point where you are comfortable going out and drinking diet soda all night, which is nice, but until then, you're doing fine. She has other friends to be her pub-crawl buds. You can find some other way to mark her birthday (maybe bring her Starbucks and some pain killers in the morning!)

I know EXACTLY how you feel.

And your roomates probably gave you a hard time about it, right? And when they come home tonight they will probably go on and on about how fun it was and they will talk about it for the next several days just to make you feel bad.

BEEN there HATED that. MOVED ON and LOVE IT!!!

Take it from me, ignore them, move on, and think about the healthy new you that you and you only are responsible for. You'll feel so much better for the rest of your life than one night on the town regretting decisions your bound to make. Keep focused and stay positive!

No I don't feel like you are wrong ,And you can always do something else with your friend that don't involve drinking to show you care for her, that she will remember for years to come.

There comes a time when you have to take care of yourself. This is your time! Maybe at some point you will be comfortable going out with them and not drinking with them but until then it's all about you.

You weren't wrong for doing that - women tend to feel guilty when we want to focus on ourselves, but we need to take the time to take care of ourselves. I used to feel so guilty about leaving my daughter at night to go and workout (hubby put her to bed), but I figured that by working out and being healthier now, I can live a longer life and spend even more time with her in the future.

It's all about balance.
