Why do people do this?
This has happened to me numerous times before, and I just don't understand why anyone would want to make someone feel like this. I reported in my personal blog that I'd lost 7lbs, about all the exercise I've done, etc, etc, and I had THREE people say something along the lines of "it took you x amount of time to walk one mile?"/"I run 5 miles a day"/"Man up, I do insert better than you here" Or my personal favorite "maybe you should get off the computer and go exercise instead of asking for tips and stuff when you already know what you need to do. Eat less, exercise more."
And I'm just like... Yeah, but you guys aren't OBESE. That one measly mile is a HUGE accomplishment for someone like me, someone who is obese, with short legs and bad knees from years of being overweight. Thanks for making me feel like crap.:( I guess it upsets me and makes me more motivated to go do that extra 15 minutes of jogging or those extra 20 sit ups and push ups but still. It kills me. It's like, can't you just be happy/proud I'm doing something in the first place? I try to stay positive, though, and I think I've done a good job so far, but these people just... Why? Even people IRL say these things, so it's not like they don't know the extent of my weight or anything. |
I bet the person who says she/he runs 5 miles a day didn't just get up one nice morning and ran full 5 miles non-stop. Everybody has to start somewhere and work up to higher intensity/endurance.
Just ignore those people. You will run 5 miles one day, too, but there is no need to be smug about it and rub into somebody else's face. |
Ignore those people. I find anonymity allows lots of people to become cyber bullies. I don't even read comments anymore on ANY news article because there is ALWAYS something ridiculous, racist, horrible, hateful being written. (e.g. on cnn's website..)
People like that make me sad. They try to make themselves feel more important and better than you because of their own insecurities. Bravo for you losing 7 lbs and exercising! This is why I love how supportive and loving everyone is on these forums. |
I agree...ignore those cold-hearted people. They too had to start somewhere. Baby steps is the way to go. Small accomplishments, which in turn become bigger ones.
I think you are doing wonderful! Keep up the great work...you are seeing progress! |
If those people claim to be your "friends" I would comment and let them know how horrible it makes you feel. OR turn the tables, say, wow, you ONLY run 5miles? Maybe you should stop typing on the computer and start training.
It always annoys me when people think they know what's best for someone else and claim to be "experts" on others. They don't know how hard you work, so I would ignore them and just keep exercising. You are doing great!!!! 7 pounds is a great accomplishment!!! |
You need to just ignore the negative people!! Be proud of what you have accomplished! To someone it may seem like a small thing but to you its much much more, so be PROUD!! Youre doing great and giving your all and thats what counts the most!!
|
Yeah, I know, I do ignore them and I'm doing my own thing- but it just baffles my mind, like, in what universe is something like that OKAY to say to someone?? It's just crazy. But I tell them, "for me, it's an accomplishment, and I'm happy with it." Because I really am.

Because people are dumb and immature and think it's funny to write things that they are too scared to say in real life because it's behind a computer.
and the person who wrote "maybe you should get off the computer and go exercise instead of asking for tips and stuff when you already know what you need to do. Eat less, exercise more." Well, what are THEY doing sitting on a computer reading YOUR blog then? If they're so active themselves do they really have time to be sitting on a computer reading someone's blog they don't find helpful/interesting? Must have a lot of time on their hands! I barely have time to update my own blog, let alone read someone else's! ~BreathingSpace~ |

Chiming in here with a well deserved DITTO!!!! You're doing just fine! :cp: And that's why we have "here" - cause the support is super!!! You just keep on doing what you're doing & you'll make goal! And as I always say "Don't let the b@stard's wear you down!" ;) |
Thanks everybody I feel better now =] It's just hard, I'm not used to being in a community that's so supportive. I'm used to locking myself in my room for the whole summer and working my *** off, then usually failing because I have no support system lol.
|
You can run just as far as everyone else; it just takes some training! Even after being a daily runner for three months, I still like to stick to my 2.6 miles on weekdays because its comfortable for me.
|
I know it can be hard but try to ignore those idiots and focus on your success, this is all about YOU :D
|
Most blogging sites let you lock comments or restrict them to registered users. Just like in "real life" people edit themselves a little better when there is accountability.
I think you are doing a great job! Keep up the good work! |

Anyway, those people show their own insecurities when they must belittle your accomplishments to feel better about themselves. I'd be tempted to say something like that to them. "I feel really bad for you, that you can run 5 miles, and still have to come here and belittle me in order to feel good about yourself." Jerks. Boo to them. Yay for you! You're doing great! :D |
