Default Question about a night of drinking!

Hi everyone,
I had a question. I went out for a girls night out on Saturday - had dinner and lot of sugary drinks. Figured I had been doing well, so I could enjoy a night off.
But I gained 2 pounds over night. I thought that it might go away by today (Monday), but alas no.
It is just water weight? Is it actually possible to gain that much (which I know isn't a lot... but it is a lot for my super short frame) because of one night? Should I give it a few more days and see what happens?
Just curious.
Thanks
Ames

It's probably mostly water weight. Drink lots and lots to help flush it out. Some of it may be real weight - but I doubt 2 pounds of it is. My scale is usually up even after 1 or two drinks. It's gone in a couple days. Good luck!

When I used to force myself to drink 2 L of water I had problem with water retention and could get +3lb overnight and it would usually take 4-5 days to get down. Usually alcohol dehydrates you and you lose couple of lb overnight, but it is depend on what you have been eating. Some salty snacks or Caesar salad with creamy high sodium dressing can make you retain water.

You probably didn't eat and drink 7000 calories, but it's not really that difficult to eat and drink 3500 calories. "A night off" can very easily and quickly ruin the entire rest of a week or two of "doing well."

I drink occasionally, and the weight usually comes off in a few days. I stay away from sugary, fruity drinks though. I stick with the good old diet soda mixed drinks.

I've only went out and drank once since I decided to lose weight. Even though I only had 2 drinks, like you, I was up 2 pounds when I weighed a couple of days later. I made sure to drink a lot of water, but the two pounds didn't go away for close to a week.

ETA: I also didn't do sugary drinks.

Thanks for all the replies!
I was assuming it was water weight... basically I just have to be patient (cause I do doubt I ate 7000 calories) and drink tons of water!
Thanks again!

Whether it's water weight or not, you just have to be patient. You can't un-drink what you drank, so - it doesn't matter what kind of weight it is. Just get back on your plan and it will come off.

I've done that a couple of times since I started trying to lose weight, it set me back a few pounds but it only took a few days for the weight to go back off. I guess it was probably water retention from dehydration? Keep on keepin' on!
