I'm also in the camp that coffee in moderation is good. I also drink a cup in the morning to stave off hunger. (I'm actually surprised other people do this!) But I think most people are right in saying, if you aren't noticing any of the possible bad side effects, then why worry about it? Enjoy your coffee!

It is an appetite stimulant according to most things that I have read. Both the South Beach Diet and GI Diet talk about it being so and highly suggest you avoid it. In fact, I am pretty sure it is a red light food in the GI Book. Again, it doesn't work that way for me but I have read a lot of articles saying it is.

Most work mornings I have a Mcdonalds Mcafe sugar free vanilla iced coffee. It's 120 calories for the large and it's soooo good. I usually drink that with a banana first thing in the morning and then have some oatmeal a couple hours later. I have found that drinking the coffee completely kills cravings later in the day and gives me a great energy boost throughout the day. I used to take naps in the afternoon because I was wiped out after work but now i'm not tired at all.

Dr. Agatston can say whatever he wants, but I have never known anyone to complain that caffeine makes them hungry. ;)

Hey guys.......just wanted to thank all of you for the great responses. I solved the problem by getting myself some decaf. LOL. I truly did go a little overboard on cups of coffee when I first opened the machine last weekend!

I think I might go ahead and have the regular coffee in the morning if I feel like it (one cup), and thereafter I'll do the decaf.

I really appreciate all the advice......and I still really love this new machine!

In some cultures, coffee is almost never served without sweets, so for people raised in those cultures, or people who by habit have always eaten sweet pastries with their coffee - then coffee by association can trigger cravings for sweet foods to go along with it.

Because caffeine can be unhealthy for people with certain health problems, I think it's gotten a generic "unhealthy" label that it probably doesn't deserve. More and more, the research is proving that there is no "one size fits all" approach to healthy eating.

Healthy is in the biochemistry of the beholder.

Well, coffee makes ME hungry. It's something I noticed a long time ago, it seems to speed up my digestion.

I love coffee and drink a lot of it in the morning, with some low-fat milk (I don't like black coffee). I just read a good article about the benefits of coffee (a powerful antioxidant) on realage.com - but I can't find that specific article any more - I have no idea how I found it originally, I was jumping from one link to another.
