Elimination (with pictures)

Well ... the things you learn while surfing the net!

As a nurse and here at 3FC, I'm surprised how much people don't know about healthy bowel habits.

Have you never used the Bristol Stool Scale? You surprise me! We use it all the time over here.

hsmomof6 03-25-2010 08:09 AM

Oh my goodness. That's - well - interesting!

By the way, SusanB, is that what you mean by Move Yourself?

stella1609 03-25-2010 08:13 AM

Funny, because I was sort of wondering about digestive health this morning!

Consider me one who has never used it! I have heard of Bristol-Myers...I have heard of Bristol, VT...I have heard of The Bristol Stomp...but I had never heard of The Bristol Stool Scale before this moment

OMG...that is too funny! I'm in my last year of nursing school and have yet to see this chart. I do believe my classmates would get a kick out of this! I also work at the largest hospital in Lexington and no one has ever mentioned it, thankfully.:D

katkitten 03-25-2010 09:26 AM

i think this chart would really be useful in the U.s. It seems like the word "diarrhea" is often overused for any soft stool.

Tomato 03-25-2010 11:10 AM

I had no idea there was a poop chart, LOL!
Good to know I am doing extremely well in that department, hah!

Gourmet Bean 03-25-2010 12:02 PM

Hahaha. Very, um, informative!

Shannon in ATL 03-25-2010 12:10 PM

That is actually very informative Susan! And, oddly amusing to me. :)

Alena - I am not doing so well... sadness...

Eliana 03-25-2010 12:36 PM

Hmmm.... how is it that I'm normally a 4 but feel constipated!! Weird.

I'm actually very glad you posted that. ;)

BerkshireGrl 03-25-2010 12:40 PM

Solidly informative ;)

srmb60 03-25-2010 03:37 PM

No, we've never used that! We have 8 or 10 descriptive terms we use but no official chart. We might use it now. The gals at work quite liked it too.

VermontMom 03-25-2010 03:49 PM

Oh! now I realize that Primm must be in the medical field also. I thought she was commenting on a cultural diff between where she lives and the States :D

Somewhere, on my road travels, I was at a State rest stop, and in the ladies' rest room there was a large framed picture/shadowbox thing on the wall. It contained dried ( I hope!!) different animal eliminations and labels on who they were from. Like fox, squirrel, relatively small forest folks :D no bear samples

but back to the OP, I guess it is valuable to have a standard to compare to!

srmb60 03-25-2010 04:02 PM

Oh there's Holly! I now have the Bristol Stomp stuck in my head!!!
