Super Bowl XLIV plans?

It's that time of year again... the SUPER BOWL is upon us!

Are you watching the game somewhere that you'll be tempted by traditional Super Bowl foods like chips, beer, pizza, chili, soda, etc? Or are you avoiding it altogether?

If you're gonna be faced with tempting food, what's your plan of attack? Are you going to eat before you go to watch the game? Eat tiny portions of the stuff that you REALLY love? Bring food that you know you can eat safely? Are you skipping the alcohol? If you usually count points or calories, are you doing it Sunday?

For me.. we're going to our hometown to watch the game with some friends who we see once or twice a year. They're also the folks in our fantasy football league, so it seems appropriate to watch with them. :D I'm sure there will be lots of junk and snacks. I don't know if they're ordering pizza or subs or something but I wouldn't be surprised. If not, we'll have to get some sort of fast food beforehand anyway, since we'll be traveling. They're all conservative Christian types or non-drinkers (I'm the only one who doesn't fit either of those, heh), so I don't have to worry about the alcohol factor.

My plan is just moderation... eat mostly whatever is healthiest, eat a few bites of junky foods if I'm really craving them (so I don't go nuts and binge), and drink lots and lots of water. I might try to bring along a veggie tray or something. I'm not counting calories like I usually do - I know from experience that one day rarely does too much damage if I try to make healthy decisions. Unfortunately I won't be able to exercise Sunday, AND I can't exercise tonight... but I'm gonna do an extra-long workout Saturday to hopefully make up for it a bit.

While we're on the topic, who are you cheering for? I don't have much of an opinion about either team, to be honest... but I guess it would be kinda touching and special if the Saints win. :D

I usually go to a superbowl party, but our friends decided not to host this year. Probably all for the better. I think I'll watch from home with a bowl of carrots with husband and kids. Superbowl for me has always been about snacking, fun with foods and fun with friends. It's difficult to watch a game without snacking, especially at a party. I'll miss my friends but I just started on this journey and can't afford any detours right now.

The tough part will be talking my kids out of chips and candy. Same goes with movie night at our house. They're so used to popcorn with massive amounts of butter and a box of candy each.

I know I can't get away with just carrots, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've made buffalo wings before out of chicken breast and well it just didn't come out very good.

I'd still like to have fun with it!

Not a football fan here, so I'll be reading or playing something on the computer. I'm also lucky that my hunny isn't a sports nut. He's as much of a gamer geek as I am.

Our plan is to stay home to watch the game. Hubby has gotten a couple of snacks for himself. I don't really care all that much for the kind he got, so it won't be hard for me to stay away from them. I have fresh green beans (I LOVE them), grapes, and I figure I'll slice an apple if I want something different. It's been a while since I've had any alcohol so I was considering buying a light beer or two at the store beforehand. I'm not really for either team this year so I'll just be enjoying the action.

*Snack food suggestion: Make your own chicken nuggets. I cut up chicken breasts and dip them in milk (fat free is what I like to drink so I use that) and then quick dip in some light bread crumbs. Grease your cookie sheet and pop them in the oven for a bit. Best part? You can add any seasonings in with the bread crumbs and have a bunch of different dipping sauces so you can be frugal and the kids can have what they want. :D

We are going to keep it low key at the house. My husband is begging for wings and ginger ale. I said okay but that's all. No extra junk, chips, cookies and whatnot. I am reserving calories for the wings because I love them. Make sure I have broccoli for me and the little girl. It's the only meal we will be outside out meal plan. So I figure one meal won't be a deal breaker.

I'm a newbie here, but wanted to reply... we're going to our neighbors house for a party... I told them I would bring the Veggie tray and my mom is bringing a fruit tray... there will be ALL KINDS of junk food there, but I am going to stick to veggies and fruit... I am hoping my WILLPOWER will last... EEKK!!! I'm a sucker for a BEER doing a game... but not this TIME!!! lol

I am a HUGE Colts fan here, so yeah I am going to a Super Bowl party! Everyone has been asked to bring a dish, so I am bringing my famous eggroll insides. Skipping the wonton wrapper and the frying saves alot of calories, yet still has a great taste. I know there will be a lot of other junk there, but considering my favorite food is eggroll insides, I should be able to skip the temptation. I am even making a cake for the party ( I have gotten into a cake decorating hobby lately) but I am making a flavor I don't like so I won't be tempted into eating that either! GO COLTS!

My father is the only sports nut in the house, so while he uses the big screen TV and eat as much junk as he wants, I'm going to go downstairs and watch the Puppy Bowl and eat healthily as usual. :D

Peyton is my favorite player...and would love to see him win another one...but I would also love to see Drew Brees get one since the Chargers dumped on him and I so dis-like them!...I can say that again since my daughter in law is retiring from their cheerleader squad in another week....

so as always I will pull for my RAIDERS!!...wink

I have turned down party requests and will stay home....watch the game all alone (OK with me) as Angie doesn't even know who is playing...

food won't be a problem....and I am not a snacker...

the beer may be!!!

OK...pretty sure it WILL BE!

Enjoy your day everyone....

Have fun with your friends KIDDO....one day we will chat on that "christian thing"...wink and hugs!

I'm heading to a friends house, I don't think I will sneak the bad food because I have been able to control my eating in similar situations. Lots of motivation helps, and I am in a biggest loser contest with my in-laws! I plan to have lots of ice water, and a few snacks that I will dig into while everyone else hits the bad stuff.

I'm going to Disneyland. Not even kidding. I didn't even realize it was Super Bowl sunday when we made plans.

A couple years ago, I was working at Baskin Robbins on Super Bowl Sunday and a customer offered sympathy that I was missing "the game". I honestly didnt even know what game he was referring to, let alone who was playing.

 Almost exactly the same story here, except I got tickets to see Rent. I kept wondering...why are there such good seats still available?

One time, my sports-loving brother-in-law made a comment about the World Series, and my wife, who really couldn't care less about sports at all, didn't know what sport it was, much less when it might be scheduled. We just aren't sports people!

bensempress 02-06-2010 03:35 AM

My husband and I are not sports watching nuts here, but my brother and mom are and I am ashamed to say that I couldn't call them and talk about who's doing what this year...

I will be having a typical Sunday morning here in Hawaii.. sun, the shoreline(which here is 20 feet high in most places) and some house maintenance

Jealous!

My hubby is working that day so it will just be me, my little boy, and my mom. We are not big snackers so it'll just be a normal day for us. I would have a beer (or two!) but I gotta be good for my WI Monday so it'll be water for me all day.

Oh, and Go Saints! :)

Its a social occasion for us, but also a food fest. I think I will go to a yoga class and plan to get back for half time and some food. The friends who always host have a variety of stuff, including veggies and nuts and venison chili so its up to me to deal with avoiding chips and junk foods.
