"Diet pills" that are unregulated have a deservedly bad rap what with ephedra etc. causing heart problems because they attempt to help you lose weight by messing with the number of calories you burn. This includes raising heart rates and including all sorts of unregulated substances that can really put your health in jeopardy.

Alli is not that kind of diet drug. It just keeps a small portion of the fat you eat from being absorbed. And it's FDA approved. So I think if you want to try it, try it.

I took Xenical (the original prescription version) when it first came out on the market. I took it a little over a month, just to get back on the right track. I knew that was the only way I'd quit eating high fat garbage. I needed that fear of having an accident. I never had any of the side effects, but I closely monitored the amount of fat I took in to make me eat properly. But, one of my friends who also took it continued to eat cheeseburgers & fries and it wasn't pretty!

For me, it was a great jump start and a way to get my eating in line.

I used Alli couple summers ago and it worked well with me. I fortunately did not have the side effects and I lost weight in the month I took it. I take it off and on and there were some months I had not done any exercising but I took Alli and I lost weight. I currently take it for dinner or whenever I have a big meal.

I did use another diet pill a few years ago, herbalife. It worked well in holding back my appetite and thanks to a lot of exercise and very little food (we're talking less than 500 calories a day... hey, I wasn't hungry!) I lost 40 pounds in 3 months, then stopped and ended up gaining it back plus tons more. I say stay away from the pills if you can muster the strength. Good luck girlfriend :)

haha you're actually right, it comes with a whole package of books and journals and an online program that was worth the 25 bucks i payed for the starter pack.

i decided i dont have anything to do friday besides go to the gym, so im going to try it then and saturday when i also have no plans so that in case the side effects happen i won't have any worries.

Okay... so flame away. I use Alli *very* sparingly. You know how when you are on your way to the restaurant and you're thinking of all the healthy options you could get?... and then you get there and somehow you mess up a little? or you're like, "oooh, but that pasta looks sooooo goood!"... to avoid this, I have been known to take Alli on my way to the restaurant. Then as I sit and read the menu I KNOW that I will feel disgusting and have a completely unpleasant oily(and smelly) mess to deal with for days after if I pick something way fatty. YES. It can last that long. I know. I am on my second bottle since the start of my weightloss--about two years.

I was considering Alli to help jump-start my latest try at losing weight. I am thankful for everyone who posted in this thread because it's helped me decide to save my money and stick with just diet and exercise. :)

I kind of think the same way as some people here. I've never seen a diet pill that actually delivered on their hype. Buy 60 bucks worth of fresh vegetables per month-- that will give you lots of nice healthy food. Ignore the companies that make a profit off of your pain and problems.

I have taken a couple of different diet pills but the side effects became to much. Plus I always gained the weight back but I never did manage to lose a good amount of weight it was always about 10 lbs weight loss and thats it. They made my heart race and make my throat feel like its closing up, shall we say panic attack! Yay.

I tried Alli about 2 years ago and it wasn't worth the money. I used it for about a week, it made my poop orange and greasy and it stuck to the side of the toilet and involved scrubbing the toilet everyday since flushing would not unstick it. It wasn't worth it for me. I haven't used diet pills in over a year they are not worth the side effects

Alli is expensive. I would suppose that if you have unlimited funds, and have oodles of money, then if you want to spend that much on glorified laxatives, then heck, go for it... BUT, if you are anything like 90% of the rest of the population, money is hard to save. If I were you, I would remain on a low calorie "free" diet. Each month stash away the money you would have spent on Alli, and when you get to goal you'll have a great start for a new wardrobe. I'm a tight-wad though, I just can't imagine spending money on something I can do for free.

i agree. all alli is, is a WAY over-priced laxative. you could get the same results from taking fiber pills, or milk of magnesia.
i tried alli about a year or so ago, and the ONLY thing it did for me was make me more regular. it did help a LITTLE, but only because before taking it, i'd only 'go' once a week, but while i was on it, i was 'going' daily.

but at the price alli is.. there's no way i could justify using it again. i've found other, MUCH cheaper ways of staying regular, and i'm getting the same results as i did while on alli.
