It's Starting Already...

Hi,

I have been on here about a week and half but haven't posted until now. Just wanted to say it is already starting...my students are already bringing in goodies. Both yesterday and today has been cupcakes and I know cookies and fudge will follow. It is easy to ignore the home made goodies (a lot of my kids have pretty dirty homes) but these store bought things are hard to leave. Yesterday I was good and gave my cupcake to a kid in a later class and today I will do the same (but it is still tempting sitting on the corner of my desk). :dizzy:

Just wanted to share (and keep my hands busy). :) I am so glad I found this website. Everyone's stories and pics are so inspirational. Also, just nice to know there is somewhere to go during times like this. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Thanks For Reading!

I feel your pain Papillion Mom!

I teach kindergarten and I've had to ban myself from the teachers' room because of all the holiday goodies in there. I'm starting to get gifts from students now though. This morning one child brought me an adorable Gingerbread man he'd made, and another brought me a little box of her grandmothers' fudge. I'm taking both home to DH tonight.
Thank goodness for prior planning - I've got 'safe' snacks in my desk drawer and a piece of SF cinnamon gum in my mouth from 7 am til the last bus leaves this time of year. lol

By the way, :welcome2:

I find it easier to resist if I never take even a nibble. I tell myself those items are not for me. Period. They are for others. It's like when you go to a store and want the clothes, but don't have enough money. I don't have enough calories to afford them (cause it's always more than one...)

And if I really need to, I picture them with worms or something gross. Works wonders. :D

I agree with Heather, if I don't even taste it, I can resist better. Coming here and reading all the wonderful, inspiration success stories and posting..great ways to avoid the "goodies" ;)

Well I did it! The kids have gone home and not one bite of their goodies entered my mouth :) The kids who I gave it to were happy to get the treats as well. Now just two more days until break (but in middle school that can feel like FOREVER)

Woo! Congrats :D

You are a strong woman! I might have cracked if there was a cupcake sitting on my desk all day. I adore cupcakes... Way to go!

I certainly understand this problem. Over here we not only have Christmas to celebrate, but it is also the end of our school year, so there are parties happening all over the place and food gifts coming out of everywhere. I have been teaching in a specialist role the last two years, so I haven't received many gifts, however I have a LOT of candy canes (from cards) and still got some chocolates and other sweet things. I have also been invited to a few parties and I have to admit I have not been as strong as I should have been. I am glad that things are extremely hectic and I don't have time to stop and sit down, so hopefully I am burning off a few of those calories.

Today is my last school day for the year and I am SO excited, because I get my own class again next year!!! Grade 3/4, and I LOVE those age groups. I am moving lots of stuff into my new classroom today, so more 'exercise'.

I hope you can all hold out over the last few days before Christmas break.

Take care,

Zelma

good job on not eating any goodies!!! I totally understand! I teach English to adults, and am always given treats and goodies. Luckily they don't celebrate Christmas here, but the treats honestly come at all times of the year. I have one student who is a baker. He always brings extra cakes and cookies from work. it kills me every time. At least children don't notice if you eat it or not, all my students sit and watch me eat. it would be rude if i didn't!
