I was watching a show the other night, maybe it was Diet Tribe on Lifetime...and a girl lost 7 pounds - they took her measurements and she lost 3" off her waist. That blew my mind! So now, of course I need to take my measurements once a month too!

Yup, that's about how often I take mine. Sometimes when I've stalled and I want to make sure I'm not gaining 'fat' weight or if I'm losing inches even though my weight has stalled, I measure. It usually stays the same until I start to lose weight again, so I don't really know why I do it anyway, haha. Measuring is good though. My weight loss hit home for me when I saw the inches I had dropped as I couldn't really see much of a difference in the mirror.

I measure about once a month. Measuring really helps reflect progress I've lost 8 inches from my waist and 9 inches from my hips!

I was in a "biggest loser" program at the local health club and they measured once at the beginning and once at the end - 5 weeks. They are going to do it again in January, so I think I will just wait until then and compare. I read that it's almost impossible to get your own measurements right. I lost 15 pounds and a significant number of inches in 5 weeks.

I measured once a week when I was losing. I liked the feedback, but I also weighed every day, and some people would hate that too.

I do when I think of it. Sometimes, if I haven't lost any weight, my measurements change and that's encouraging even when the scale is not.

I was watching a weight loss show the other day and they mentioned a womens waist should measure 32 or less, I always thought that the waist was the smalled part where your natural bend is but they said right across the belly button. Well my measurement there is 35 if I remember correctly but what really surprised me was when the dr took their measurements he said to suck in, suck in, suck in...how can that be a true measurement? So I tried it sucked in also and it was just a tad under 33.

I will just stick to the measurements I have been taking and keep track that way.

I measure weekly. I am so glad I started when I did. There have been multiple times that the scale hasn't budged, but I've lost inches. It's been nice to have another way to see my progress!

I have a page at the front of my food diary where I keep them - I measure on the first day of the month and record my weight, fat% (as shown by my scale - a RELATIVE number!), waist and hip. I have 11 lines now (since Jan), and getting to that point where the scale isn't moving much, but the inches do. It's great reinforcement!

I'm horrible at this. I take the measurements around my waist but not regularly...only when I remember.

Really?? That DOES sound counterintuitive. If you suck it in, you're getting a false measurement. Maybe he was suggesting it so that the air in the stomach wouldn't contribute to the overall measurement? I'm guessing when you suck it in, the fat isn't going anywhere, the only thing that changes is the volume of air. Hmmm...that would give me a nice waist measurement actually so maybe I should use this method!!

I wish I could suck my arms in (bat wings) That measurement has not changed in over 6 months

Oh don't be embarrassed You need a base line! And ... ya know darned well that the next time .... all those numbers will be less. It's only uncomforable the first time.

I don't measure too often, but it's a very satisfying way to see long-term progress. When you look at yourself in the mirror every day you will have a hard time seeing the changes. Seeing the measurements go down is very tangible and satisfying. Caveat: it's a very long-term proposition. If you are driven crazy by watching your weight creep down slowly, you should probably put measurements out of your mind and only do them once a month if not less. Measuring weekly is a mistake, I think.

The last time I lost weight I measured about once a month. This time I've done even less than that. I measured a while before I started because I was buying some clothes and wanted to get the right size. I measured again about three months in when I was ready to buy more clothes. I don't plan to measure more frequently than that.

I do it once a week now but I wish I would have done it in the beginning.
