Default Pants Dilemma

Yesterday I tried on pants. They fit. I hated how they looked.

Allow me to elaborate. I currently own size 12 pants. They're pretty comfy, if not a bit loose. I decided yesterday would be the perfect day to try on clothes and see if I couldn't wriggle into any smaller sizes. I slide on a pair of size 10 pants. They fit. They feel good. They look good. Now, I get a little confident and dare I say cocky? I try on a few pairs of 8s. They fit. They feel okay. They look horrible. I looked like a tube of sausage in 8's. They were just unflattering. But-- I could wear them. Does that mean I should? If someone asks me my size should I say a grotesque 8, or a comfortable 10? Needless to say, I didn't buy any new pants yesterday. I'm still wearing my loose 12's. I think I'll be wearing them for a while until I tone up a little more and look less like sausage and more like sexy.

Has anyone else had this pants dilemma? Just because you can wear something, does it mean you should?

Clothes should make you feel good when you wear them, not self conscious about looking like a sausage in a tube. I've never in my life whether skinny or fat had anyone ask what size i was. I guess I'd rather wear what makes me feel comfortable with myself and keep the next size down as a goal until they make you feel the same way. Besides, size changes depending upon the brand, etc. Feel good about where you are and where you are heading towards!

Next time you're out in the mall or someplace else with lots of people, look at the girls who are wearing clothes that are too tight. Do you like that look?

Clothes that fit should not make you look like a sausage. If they do, then they are too small, whether you can zip them or not.

I think you should treat yourself to the tens and just enjoy them for a bit. You know you can eventually get to a comfy 8 and won't always look like a sausage.

Eh, that's an easy one. If they make you look like a sausage, they didn't "fit." End of story "Fit" does not mean "the zipper closed!"

Thank you all for the advice and encouragement. I feel a lot better now. I'll just have to chalk it up to TOM getting me down. Those 10's did look rather good though. I might have to go back and snag them.

I had twin friends in high school and they both employed this line of thought all the time. If they could get the pants on and buttoned, no matter how tight those pants could be, it was a "good" fit; since they were always trying to lose weight, I think it was just a way to convince themselves they were smaller than they actually were. Its not a good look.
Clothes should make you fee confident about yourself. If you feel like you're stuffed into your jeans, it means they don't feel yet. Buy the 10s and look forward to the day that the 8s fit

ok, great job on the WL.
REMEMBER (this is the mom in me) just because you can get it on does NOT mean it fits!
it fits when you don't have to pull or tug at it, it fits if you can sit comfotably and it fits if you feel good in it. keep that in mind when you shop and you won't come home with cheep finds.

I agree on wearing the 10s.... we don't need you to have any internal organ damage from tight 8s!!!!

I can squeeze into a 12 like you can squeeze into an 8, but I'm not a 12. I'm a 14. Maybe I will be a 12 one day...I've never been one before. It's an exciting thought. I can wear a 12 top though.

If the 10s fit, buy them!!

Get the tens. Ten is great size to be. I'd love to be a ten.

So I went back to get the 10's, and found a pair I loved even more that were 50% off! I actually got a size 8 STRETCH because I loved the style, and the 10 STRETCH fit more like my 12's. I also found this adorable jeans jacket that has a sweater hoodie and trim sewn on, also half off!! I'm really happy with my purchases.

I am having a similar dilemna, although with larger sizes! My 26s are literally falling off. If I take more than a few steps without hitching them up, they will slide off my rear I stupidly bought some 22 jeans without trying them on, thinking that the 26 was sooo big that I could go down 2 sizes. Well, the 22s button, but are not flattering. The muffin top is more like a pound cake-top! So, I now have about 5 pairs of jeans that I cannot wear or risk being arrested for indecent exposure, and one pair that I can get into but look like the sausage casing busted!

I really don't want to spend $$ on 24s that will only fit a few months, though. I guess it is a good problem to have, but it is still annoying!
