How To Balance Carbs and Protein

Someone mentioned balancing carbs and protein. How do you do it? Do you have to look up everything and balance precisely or go 1 to 1 grams to protein. So if I have an egg that's 7 grams protein, should I have only 7 grams carb at a meal? How do you count fruit as opposed to cereal, both carbs.

I don't balance anything. If you are looking at doing low carb or just keeping an eye on them as long as you stay under 50g a day you are great for weigh loss.

A carb is a carb, doesn't matter if its cereal, bread, grain, fruit, veggie your body sees it as carbs. I aim for 45% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat and I do it using www.livingstrong.com/mydailyplate. It has a huge database and is very easy to use and is free. Take a look!

Lots of people go by the 40 carbs/30 protein/30 fats ratio.

But the carbs that I eat really matter to me. Fruits and veggies are loaded with carbs. These carbs I have no problem with. The carbs from the flour, pasta, rice, sugar, etc - THOSE are the ones that will stall my weight loss - for many reasons.

The best way for me to balance my carbs/protein/fats is to count my calories, sticking to wholesome foods - avoiding fatty, greasy, processed, sugar-y *white* flour-y ones. And getting in Fiber and/or protein at every meal and snack. The numbers balance themselves out.

So don't worry about getting too many carbs in. Just make sure the majority of them are the "right" ones.

Thanks for the good ideas. I REALLY want to do this with the least fuss possible.

I think rockinrobin mistyped, because her numbers add up to more than 100.

The Zone percentages are 30:40:30 protein:carb:fat.

I work toward 100 g protein if I'm really working out a lot, and let the others fall where they may.

Jay, thanks. I definitely mistyped. I meant 40/30/30. In fact, I think I'll go edit it to reflect the "correct" numbers.
