First WW?

  • --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I went to my first WW Meeting last Thursday - it was FAB! I have read loads of success stories and felt really encouraged by the other ladies recent weight loss acheivements. Im just wondering if its possible for me? I mean, Ive stuck to the points religiously so far but im petrified that next Thursday is going to come along and i wont have lost anything!!! Does anyone else have this worry or is it just me?? Im doing this with a friend who has been to WW before.
Is there anyone else out there who felt they were'nt going to lose any weight - but was suprised at how much they lost in their first week - please let me know! x

    Start Weight - 24th Sept - 14st 4lb
  • First off, welcome to 3fc!

I am not on weight watchers anymore, but thought I would answer anyway. Of course you can do it! You can and will do it if you commit to it and stick to the WW plan. The thing I loved about WW was the weigh in because it made me feel like i HAD to be committed to the plan.

And you're not alone, in fact I think everyone feels that way when they start out believing they may not lose weight their first week. But when you see it starting to come off, it motivates you to go on losing more weight and exercising even.

Before you know it, you will be surprised at what you are able to lose. Just do it!
  • You bet you're going to do it! It's totally normal to feel concerned that you won't lose, but chances are you will. Some people notice a higher weight loss the first week because you drop water weight, others may find they lose the 1-2 that they tell you to expect...it depends on your body and your diet before you started.

I've lost 124 pounds through WW and exercise (lot's of exercise) and WW has been fantastic for keeping me on track and keeping me mindful of portion sizes.

If you had asked me when I started if I thought I'd get this far I'd probably have said no, but I've done it and it's great! Stay on point, work some exercise in and you'll be sucessful!

    Good luck!
  • WW is a great program from what I've heard. I count calories myself but I think WW is similar to that?

Either way, ppl on WW have had lots of success. I think that meetings/support are important, thats why I came to 3fc. I totally know how you feel, when I started my journey, I had failed SO many times and I was just sure that there was no way *I* could do it, but I'm more than 1/2way there now and have my confidence back up. The same will happen to you. After you successfully lose for a while you'll start thinking, "hey, I CAN do this!". Just keep with it no matter what, and you'll be fine.

I might also recommend getting a scale and weighing at home. I dont know exactly how it works at WW weigh ins, but night time weight can vary based on what you ate or drank that day/what you're wearing. I know that my evening weight can be up as much as 5 lb from my morning weight when I'm clothed (I weigh in bra and undies every Wednesday morning). Maybe also keep track at home with a once a week morning weigh in?
  • Hi fellow WW buddy! I started WW eight weeks ago and have lost 15 lbs so far. I like WW because it teaches me portion control, how to make better choices, and how to eat for life (not just for this diet)... not mention the meetings really provide me with support and motivation. I rarely feel hungry, and I'm not depriving myself of anything. I once thought that I could never eat cookies or ice cream -- I was wrong! I realized that sugar-free pudding, reduced fat ice cream, and WW cookies taste really good!

The weight loss can sometimes be slow, but that way you'll keep it off longer. Enjoy the journey and don't get discouraged!
  • Thanks for the encouragement all of you! Ive been sticking to my points really well, i even had pizza and chips the other night (from WW food range of course) - it felt good but kinda naughty too ! lol
I realise that this could be a long process but im up for it!
How much did you lose in ur first few weeks??? I cant wait to go to WI and see how much of this belly has gone!
Im only slightly worried because i feel full all the time, therefore im subconsiously thinking that i cant possibly be losing weight because i dont feel hungry all the time - do you know what i mean?
  • oh and while im here - how do you add those ticker thingys so i can track my weight loss on here too?
  • theres some sort of rule on tickers, i think you have to be a member for like a month.

this is a common misconception, that you're not dieting unless you're hungry. i can say that in the past 8 months, i've only been HUNGRY about 5 times. theyre usually days when everything went haywire and i didnt get to eat. being hungry, for me, is actually very detrimental. i tend to make poor choices when im hungry and binge. so actually part of my plan is making sure i never get hungry.

we've all come to think that diet means punishment. you have to PAY for all your overeating by undereating, this is simply not true. if you're aiming to have long term weight loss, you need to find a plan where you're not hungry all the time, so that you can sustain it. i can relate to the instincts you're having that you SHOULD be hungry to lose weight, but trust me, ignore them.
  • Like julia, I binge when I'm hungry, so I snack between meals to avoid that. My first week, I lost 4.4 lbs, but I've been averaging about 2 a week. This past week I lost 2.6, but I was up .4 the week before that. However, I don't use my extra points (for the most part) or my activity points... mostly because I'm at the point that I feel like what I eat during the day is enough. That may change, though, because as you lose, you start losing points. For instance, when I was at 181, I could eat 26 points, but now that I'm at 179, I can only eat 25.
