I would think of an ideal weight and try to get there but I think as we age our bodies have to change. Hormonal differences and all? I do not know for sure but I think it would be hard getting a 19 year old body back kids or not. And trying to keep it there might be tough. Who wants to be sad if they do not look 19 anymore? The truth is that you are older. Having kids makes your hips wider just by having them. Fat changes with age. Be happy with where you are and maybe go to the gym and forget about the numbers as long as you are healthy. Loosing too much weight is never good.

I don't see my goal as unrealistic. The last time I was that weight was 8 yrs ago. If it turns out that I feel better at 140, great! If my hips end up being wider, great! I thought they weren't wide enough anyways, just gives me more curves. ;-)
Like someone mentioned here, what about those women that are thin before pregnancy and return back to they're weight after pregnancy, still looking awesome? Do they need to gain weight to meet the "mom standard" body weight? |
Interesting comment on hips. I've had 3 children and they are the same size, they shrink back at least on me.
I have always been in my weight range and yes, our bodies do change as we age but we can have a pretty good body after children. Mom4life you are an inch taller than me I don't think 130 is unreasonable for your height. Like others have said you know your body best. Cheers on your 28lb lost so far :carrot: |

I'm not accusing OP of inaccuracies in the retelling, but I'm not assuming that the conversation was verbatim either. As I alluded to, I would have serious issues with any doctor who called me "missy," and spoke in the condescending tone that the OP quoted. If the doctor is that disrespectful, there's a bigger issue than whether or not she agrees with the OP's goal weight. Even if the conversation was quoted verbatim, I don't know the tone of the doctor or OP during the conversation. I don't know if the doctor was joking, exagerating, or if she meant it literally that she would nag the OP for reaching the lower goal. Because of my health issues, I have to see my primary care physican a few specialists. While I respect my doctors' opinions (or they wouldn't be my doctors), I don't agree with all of those opinions (I couldn't if I wanted to because THEY don't always agree). If the doctor is being disrespectful or the OP has lost respect for her doctor over this incident, then it's time to find a new doctor. |
Thank you
WoW another .5" person. What do you put in charts that ask for your height? 5'3" or 5'4" ? I always put 5'4" but I feel I'm short changing myself. LOL |
I added the .5, made me feel better to be 5'4" ..lol I just need to stand up tall all the time :)
I asume there are more people that are half an inch more, I wonder why they don't include it? |
Kaplods, I really didn't take "Missy" in a bad way. I figured since this is the south, this is what some older women say to younger women...don't know. She didn't have a tone, it was more "Matter of fact," the sort of thing I'm used to... coming from a medical professional.
As for her nagging me if I went under her ideal weight amount. I think that since she's going by that, she thinks I'll be super thin, which is completely untrue. Now if my choice was to go down to 110, then I could understand her freaking out. I was that weight before and I did look scary skinny. But 130 is not super thin, I was 26 when I last weighed that. If she was coming across as rude, yes I would be looking for another doctor. I just think she's being misled by her little dial. But I'm happy that according to her little dial, she considers me as being healthy. |

I think it all depends on how you feel. If you're healthy, happy and fit at your current weight or when you do reach 140 (if you choose to) that's what you might want to go by.
I let my body decide and was at 142 for the longest time. Then I started jogging a few months ago and dropped to 130. I'm definitely not thin by any means. I'm a size 8 or ten, depending on the outfit. The most important factor for me was that my weight be easy to maintain. My doctor had a goal of 116-126 for me. Not only would I never be able to reach that, I definitely wouldn't be able to maintain comfortably. Congrats on your weight loss! |
