So when does weight loss show?

After losing 10 lbs,20 lbs, or more? Does it usually come off of your face and arms first, that is what I am hearing. Anyone know? Thanks.

I think it depends on the person. I'm 6'1 and for me it starts showing once I have lost like 20+ lbs. For someone shorter, like lets say 5'3 it might start showing if they lose less. Also we can't always just account for the pounds lost. For instance, sometimes even if you lose like 5 lbs, you can lose a lot of inches and look a lot smaller. Just goes to show you, that a loss on the scale isn't the only measure of success.

Thanks I appreciate your response :)

I lost almost 20 lbs and very few people have noticed (or had mentioned it). It is very disappointing in some ways, because you see it, the scale see it and so does your cloth, but no one say anything and you don’t feel motivated.
I can definitely see it in my face. Seems like it is the very first place where I can see my weight when I gain some.
This is so true that my wake up call was a drive license I took last year. My face was so fat.
But I realize it isn’t true to everyone. Sometimes you see face pics from people and can’t tell they are overweight even when they are.
That is not my case. I can take a head shot and even if I am only few pounds above my desirable weight you will notice it. So unfair!!!
Well, in the other hand, that was what made me wake up and start my journey! :)

I've lost between 17-19 (I'm at a bit of a stall right now) and I can say I lost pretty much everywhere, but I notice it in my boobs the most. The top part of my D cup is empty now :( And I definitely lost on my arms, too. I use a bodybugg and I've had to tighten the strap to keep it up on my arm (little NSV for me!) My Mom in law says she can see it in my face & my waist.

But its different for everyone. It depends on how much your started at, how tall, where you carry your weight, etc...

I look at my work badge and I cringe. My face is SO fat and a daily reminder for me. I've lost over 40 lbs and people have just started to notice. My face is thinner now (even though sometimes I don't see it cuz the fat image is printed on my brain) and clothes are becoming loose. My fat is equally distributed all over . As luck would have it no body part is thin compared to any other body part :(. Not to mention, I'm also very short so maybe it took a while for people to notice that I have lost weight. Recently, someone at work asked me if I was losing weight and I replied yeah, I'm working on it. She said that's good it is showing.

So, it depends person to person.

I started at 187 and people started noticing about 20 pounds in. I think it's when I surpassed what I weighed before I got pregnant that people's jaws would actually drop. That felt great! I think it depends on where you start.

I'm at 15 lost and my first person asked me just today if I have been losing weight. I highly doubt anyone that sees me on a regular basis would notice yet.

I'm 6'3 and started at 360 as you can see and it took me about 40 pounds to see it some myself and for others to notice. I still have a bad habit of not really seeing a difference between now and 60 pounds ago.

Lori Bell 08-25-2009 01:36 PM

It took me a good 50 pounds before anyone other than my hubby and sons noticed, (and that could be because I talked about it continually at first!! :))
HOWEVER, I could tell immediately. My swollen ankles and feet slimmed down almost overnight, well, within a week at least, and my night time heartburn/GERD went away the first night. I felt better and could breath better right off the bat. Besides my feet and ankles, (edema) my face showed the first signs of weight loss.

Make sure you keep us updated on the first place you notice it. ;)

I've lost 6.6 lbs and a family friend asked me if I was losing weight and I've started noticing my pants are WAY looser. Then again, I'm 5'4". My mother has told me that when I lose, the first place that she sees it is in my face. That may be why it's been noticeable with me.

I guess it depends really on your height, weight and how your weight is distributed.. If you are at a higher weight, it takes more to lose to notice, whereas if you are smaller, 10 lbs makes a huge difference..
For me, when I first started losing weight in high school, I went from 190 to 165 and people started taking notice once I hit 175 really *close friends* and once I hit 170 and went below, everyone in my classes noticed.. I guess b/c I've always been overweight.. plus my weight is pretty evenly distributed and I have an hourglass figure that started to emerge and become more noticable around that weight..

juliastl27 08-25-2009 02:16 PM

ive lost 40 and other than my family, ONE person has noticed. i think like some of the other girls said, that height factors in. at 5'8" im not TALL, but im taller than most girls. i can see the differences the most in my face and "side fat" lol. aka, love handles. my gut is JUST starting to shrink, and my arms are still totally fat. i guess it depends on you!

Aclai4067 08-25-2009 03:14 PM

I've lost 31.8 pound and the changes are still very subtle. My face doesn't really look smaller, but it does look less bloated (if that makes sense at all). My feet look skinnier, and I've stopped wearing holes through the inner thigh of all my jeans. The people who know I'm losing weight say they can tell, but no one that doesn't know has noticed.

Sunnigummi 08-25-2009 04:05 PM

I've noticed that once I'm in the mid-to-low 150s, people start to notice the weight loss. Until then, it's a "is she or isn't she?" effect. ;) I'll lose the layer of fat under my chin, so when I smile my jaw line looks sharp but not much else changes, so nobody says anything. I think at 145, I look really small, petite even, so that makes everyone notice all the more. Still got 20 lbs to go to get there though...
