To Be or Not to Be - My version of Hamlets soliloquy

  • Hi everyone!

    So I love literature and poetry and a few years back I modified Hamlets to be or not to be speech and made it one about weight loss, I just had too much time on my hands trying to not think about food etc LOL so this was what I produced. Hope you ladies like it.

    To Be or Not to Be: The Weight Loss Soliloquy

    To be, or not to be: that is the question:
    Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
    The years of anguish at an unhealthy weight,
    Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
    And by opposing end them? To be miserable or lose weight;
    No more; and by a healthy lifestyle to say we end
    The heartache and the thousand worldly diseases
    That the overweight is heir to, 'tis a contemplation
    That we can understand. To gain, to lose weight;
    To lose weight: to achieve your dream
    For in that journey to lose weight what dreams may come
    When we have shuffled off these excess pounds
    Must give us pause: there's the respect
    That makes it worth it for so long a struggle;
    For who would bear the words and scorns of friends,
    The oppressor's wrong, the jealous man's contumely,
    The pangs of sweet foods, the plateaus and delay,
    The insolence of office snacks and fast food,
    That enduring taunt of the unworthy cake,
    When he himself might his quietus make
    With sweets no more? Who would even care,
    To grunt and sweat under routines of exercise,
    Always with the hope of losing the weight,
    To reach the undiscover'd goal promised,
    What makes us rather stay at our weight
    Than to try to reach the healthiest we know of?
    Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
    And thus the native hue of resolution
    Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
    And enterprises of great pith and moment
    With this regard their currents turn awry,
    And lose the name of action when goal weight is near.
    Yet they can succeed if they stay the course,
    and stay on plan even in times of distress.
    Thus their hopes shall dwell on the possible
    To be or not to be as they struggle on
    But with commitment it is to be!
    Reaching goal weight is destiny!
  • That's very good! Very creative and true! I like re-creating sayings to fit my weight loss agenda too-every little bit of motivation helps
