  • I made a mini goal for myself 2 weeks ago. I planned to lose 3 pounds in 2 weeks by working out almost everyday and eating healthy.. Well I failed (( I gained 2 pounds instead..
I work-out almost everyday and eat lots of protein and veggies..
could I be bloated because my period is late for about 3 weeks ? Please say yes..
  • Any chance you could be pregnant?
  • not a chance unless im the next Virgin Mary.. there's no way i could be preggo
  • ah okay... thought that could have been it!

Maybe others here have better ideas for ur situation.
  • sweetie, first of all hugs. Yes it could be because your period is late.

Also I want to caution you, you may not be losing those pounds--but check the inches. Don't beat yourself up. You are doing all the right things. I checked your other posts.

You look great at your weight now. I am the same height as you (I am quite a bit heavier than you) and I carry my weight mostly on my tummy too. we might even be the same build. I remember when I was 15-16 suffering with an eating disorder--I was 125 lbs. And everyone was commenting you could see my ribs through my shirt. I didn't think it was that bad, but my period had shut down on me..Now in middle school when I was a bit younger, I always got made fun of...because when we did our weigh ins during PE--the girls would all weigh like 105 lbs, but not me I weighed 125 lbs. However, the PE teacher would constantly tell the others to watch me perform the exercises because I was doing them right. I was not chubby either--just always heavier than my peers and more muscular.

I wouldn't worry about the lbs so much as the inches--you really are only needing to tone up. Strength exercises will do that for you.
  • aww thank you jendiet
I didn't start taking measurements till yesterday when I was getting a dress altered.
I'm going to check my measurements again in 2 weeks and hopefully I'll see some changes.
My weight in mid-high school was between 120-148. 120 was in 7th grade and I never got down to 120s till I was in college.
Ohh I hate carrying the weight in my tummy and my arms.. I wish I had it around my hips. Oh well if nothing works out I guess I could get a tummy tuck
  • Absolutely yes. Water retention is a realy pain, because it can mask our weight loss and make us lose hope and focus.
I recently gained 1.5lbs on vacation and was REally annoyed, because, for the first time ever, I'd been meticulously vigilant. However, in the week after I lost the 1.5 AND 5 more lbs, a physical impossibility for fat but it was just the vacation/flight fluid vanishing.
Don't be tempted to give up - it Will move.!
  • girl, I really don't think you will need it. Are you familiar with reverse crunches? They can really shred belly fat. I do this move where you put an exercise ball between your legs and you raise it up to your hands--oh my gosh it hurts--but it works.

And another thing. People will probably yell at me for suggesting it. I have a pooch from having a c-section fairly young and not losing my belly fat. I found that fasting really attacked that fat. And really seems to be the only thing that shrinks it.

Maybe try along with your healthy plan and cardio and strength. eating from just 11am-7pm. That is a window for women suggested by the Burn the Fat, Feed the muscle guy. So from 7pm until 11 am you are in a fasted state, your body begins to rely on fat. Then when you eat lunch or dinner do a light protein/carb meal and do your strength training afterwards.

Also I just watched the 30 day shred Level 1. It looks like it would really help. She does circuit training--which I am a big fan of. I already circuit through my exercises when I'm doing strength. I love that method. NO rest, but it gets results. To me she is also not annoying like some instructors--constantly smiling and acting like they are having fun. The stuff hurts--it's supposed to.

I hope all my suggestions don't annoy you!
  • Maybe it's just that your body doesn't want to lose any more. If you do have a little more belly fat, try strength training and sit-ups and focus on ab work. Maybe you are eating too much. but it's most likely bloating, and if your period is 3 *weeks* late... you should go see your OB/GYN. That's not normal nor is it good. it could be from some underlying problem.
  • I think you should change your signature! Failed is a really strong word. Yes, you didn't lose what you wanted to in the time frame you set out for yourself, but you DID eat clean, and you DID work out almost every day! I don't really think that failure is an option here, if you're working on a lifelong commitment to being a healthy weight, there's no end to it, thus no failure. Just my 2 cents.
  • You did not fail my dear, we all go through that. I hit little mini-plateaus like that myself and I don't realize until afterward I get through it that I was under a lot of stress at the time with work. Stress for some reason causes me to not lose weight even if I'm doing all the right things. Address the stress or get through it and you'll be fine. Good luck!
  • I was going to say the same thing about failure -- I think that our mental attitudes are one of our biggest obstacles to successful weight loss and maintenance! YOU DID NOT FAIL, okay??? You just didn't lose weight. Lots of factors might be responsible.

For your starting weight, it might be very hard to lose 3 pounds in 2 weeks!! You are what we call a 'featherweight' -- someone with only a little to lose -- and it is very hard to lose when you're in that position. Check out our featherweights support group!!

As for your goal weight, you said you weighed 120 in 7th grade. Well, it may not be realistic to weigh what you did when you were not full grown yet!

You may find that shifting your goal from losing weight to improving muscle tone gives you the LOOK you want. I would recommend weight training. If done right you do gain a little muscle mass, but LOOK trimmer. It's also sustainable, and something you can do for life!
  • I wholeheartedly agree with Heather and the others about the strength training.

For inspiration, I have a Sparkpeople page bookmared on this girl that is about the same height and build as me. At 148 lbs, she still looked flabby just like me (she tended to carry her weight along the middle and bottom, true pear shape). She looked better at 134 lbs but she began strength training at this point and within just ONE month she only lost 2 lbs down which took her down to 132 but she looked AMAZING!! AMAZING I tell you! She LOOKED like she weighed about 123 lbs at the most, and it was all due to strength training and building on that muscle.

I am about ready to get REAL serious about strength training myself and am contemplating 30 day shred or Turbo Jam (the one this girl used). Right now I do crunches and 10 lb handweights and although my arms look a little better, they along with the inside of my thighs look terrible IMO.

If you would like, I can PM you w/the link to her page. I don't want to post it here, as she may not appreciate that
  • Honestly, you may not even need to lose any more weight. What I'm gathering from your posts is that you are just unhappy with the fat remaining on your stomach.

I hate to break it to you but you can't spot reduce fat. You could do a million crunches a day but if you don't reduce the fat it will still cover up amazing abs that are underneath.

If I were you, so take this with a grain of salt if you like, I would stop focusing on the lbs and start focusing on more intense cardio mixed with strength training. The cardio will help shred that fat along with increasing your muscle mass (thusly burning calories more efficiently) via strength training.
