Oh I know! I picture having to pick up and MOVE 120 lbs and I just can't. There is NO WAY that I can lift 120 lbs without hurting myself... so why is it that I could carry that around day after day for 12 years!!!!

My goal is a 75 lbs. loss. That is more than my 11 yr old son weighs. So in effect, I'm carrying around my son. Constantly. Day in day out. An entire human being is stuck to my butt. Talk about a visual. Ugh.

It's funny to think of weight that way, isn't it. I've lost 27 pounds and I look at it this way: Would I want to carry almost three 10-pound bags of potatoes around with me everywhere I go? Because that's what I'd have to do to get back up to my starting weight.

It all counts. Every pound counts and adds up. Cool!

I think about things like this a lot. For instants, I have a 17 year old son who is 5'10" and weighs 175 pounds. I've lost my son! (Who is a grown MAN!) In another thread we were comparing our weight loss to sticks of butter. There are 4 sticks of butter in a pound so I have lost around 685 sticks of Butter!

I guess this is one reason why I often tell people just starting out to hold out on exercise until they are comfortable with their eating plan...It's a pretty good work out carrying around (in some cases) 100+ extra pounds!

Yes! I remember hiking (or attempting to) when I was 40 pounds heavier and how hard it was. Last summer we went backpacking and my pack was around 30 pounds. It occurred to me that WITH the pack I was still lighter than I was before ... ! wow. And I'm much stronger now to boot. I never want to carry that extra weight around, ever again.

Windchime I walked around the grocery store with 2 10lb bags of potatoes and almost fell out halfway down the aisle! That gave me perspective.
