Default Are there any other tall girls out there?

I'm 6 feet tall. It's hard to get a good idea of what would be a good weight for me, when I don't really have a point of reference. Growing up I always felt like I an ogre because I was almost a foot taller than all my friends and 40 lbs. heavier. There are a lot of shorter ladies whose starting weight is my goal weight. Does anyone else have this problem?

Tall is me honey!

I know what you mean about different weights. It's hard to believe I look super thin at 170 when that would be way too much for someone else.

But I think that's part of what let me get so big without knowing it. When you're tall (and not built like a model) you do carry the weight in a different way.

I think in high school I managed to starve into the mid to late 160s briefly ... but on my frame that was quite thin.

As an adult I was around 170, could wear tight sweaters no problem and was down into a size 12. I don't think I will ever be double digits. I would look sick!

169 sounds good to me!

I'm not tall, so I can't personally relate, but at 5'7" I'm the shortest person in my family, so I have lots of experience observing. FWIW, my mother is 6 feet tall, too, and has been since she was fourteen years old. I think the answer to your question depends on your age. My mother, who is in her mid-sixties, looks very good at around 200 lbs. But if you're younger, you might go lower. Have you tried asking your doctor?

i am 5'11 so i know how you feel. my goal is to be 170 - and i used to feel like when i told people my goal was 170 they were thinkig "jeez i hope i never weigh even that much" but the way my body is built an because of my height i know 170 is healthy and when i weigh 170 i LOOK like i weigh a smaller amount of weight. its all about feeling good and being healthy, not really what the number is. can you remember a weight when you felt really good? the BMI calculator tells me 178 and under i considered healthy for 5'11, since youre an inch taller that will probably give you a couple pounds.

hello! There was another tall thread started but unfortunately hasn't been too active. Maybe this is a good revival thread for us tall ladies!
old thread -> http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=125816

As for the proper goal weight for us... well from my personal experience and observations I've learned:
- Last year I was 170 lbs and on my 5'11" frame I looked great! Love handles were gone and waist was pretty tiny. Still had hips and a bum so certainly didn't look too skinny. This has been as close to my ideal I've ever been and would be perfectly happy at that. I'd be able to get down to 160 pretty comfortably I would think.
- My gorgeous 6'2" friend is 160 lbs and looks like a model. No extra pudge on her legs and her tummy is flat.
- Another gorgeous friend (from the past) is 6'1" and weighed 155. There was not an ounce of fat on her but she still had lots of boobage.
- My gym councellor told me that if I was to achieve a healthy body fat % that would put me at 145 lbs. I have no idea what that looks like on someone who is 5'11".

What does everyone think? Any other observations by others is a big help!

I'm 5'10 and currently 145 so my BMI is 20.8. While I have good muscle tone I actually have a small frame (for my height) and I'd like to lose more weight.

well at 5'4 145 is a good weight for me, my sister who is 6' looks really thin and wears a sz 10/12 at that weight..she usually stays between 160-170 and wears the same size..i dont know how that works-but it does. maybe because she has big hips.

I am 5'9" but probably closer to 5'10". I have a friend who is a little taller than I am and skinny (140) so I use her as a reference. I think it would really help you if you can find someone the same height to go by.

Yeah, it probably helps to see the weight on someone you know well. My mom is 5'11 and for most of her life has weighed 136. It wasn't until her 50s that she gained weight and now has to work at it to keep it off.

As I have never been anything but overweight at my adult height I chose my goal weight by calculating what weight I would have to be to put me in the healthy BMI category.

I'm fairly confident this would be a good weight as my sister (who is also 5'10") looks really good at 170 (12st) although I do have concerns... how much do boobs account for? Sadly I'm stuck at the shallow end of the dream pool with B cup at my current weight, she however is DD+ life is cruel - if I do get down to that weight I can only assume my boobs will also be smaller!

Because I love the little BMI calculator I use I tried to work out what your BMI should be - I guess from your picture you're in your mid-20's? So here is what I got:

Healthy BMI is 25 to 18.5

At 6ft, 170lbs, BMI = 23 would put you in the high-middle end of healthy BMI

185 would be a BMI of almost 25 (24.8), and 140 would be a BMI of almost 18.5 (18.8)

As I've never been skinny I myself will happily settle for the top range of BMI, I find the thought of me being noticeably 'thin' quite weird

I'm 5'11". My official goal for right now is 180 but my secret goal (heh) is really 165. When I was 15 1/2, I was 155; I know this because my driver's license says so. After high school but pre-baby, I was 165 so that's where I'd like to be again. I carry most of my weight in my butt and legs, but also have a pretty nice rack (she says modestly) and I think the smallest I've ever been on top is a D cup when I was 155.

It really depends on how you're built. My family would probably force me into a hospital if I got down to 136 like Tyler's mom; I need to be little heavier than that to look healthy.

My oldest sis got all the boobage before my other sis or I got a shot at 'em. But, guess what. I got the BEST boobs. Enough for cleavage when I want, but, I put on a sports bra and can go running without trouble. I don't have canyons carved into my shoulders, don't get constant headaches and I've never blacked out on the freeway cause of the strain they put on my neck.

And, I haven't lost much at all with the 50 lbs.

I am an extremely heavy and compact 5'8 but most people think I'm taller for some reason (good posture maybe); I have enormous hands and wear a size 13 shoe. At 264 I am between a size 16 and size 18. My primary goal is 199, secondary, 169, dream goal 150 but I think I'm maybe too muscular for that.

Yeah, I'm somewhere between 5/10 and 5/11 and I looked healthy and to be honest, darn good at 160. Even at 190. But I carry my weight quite well, even now. My goal is to get into a healthy BMI though, but even those can be deceiving. As they don't take in consideration muscle mass and other variables. My good friend does weight lifting as a hobby and of course he weights a lot and is extremely fit and yet because it goes by weight his BMI says he is obsese...it really is a flawed algorithum.
